A: A opaque black color with only the slightest bit of browning around the top where the light can pass through. The head formed was slight, a finger tall, and fell quickly leaving only a dusting on top and a thin coating of lacing on the side of the snifter.

S: Tropical melon and mango hop aroma is moderate but bright and distinct. There is a nice subtle roasted coffee coffee aroma that comes through after a few minutes.

T: Strong coffee and caramel/toffee malt character on the first sip. Bitterness is moderate and the mango, tropical berry flavors are present but just supporting roles to the malt flavors in the beer. The flavors clash slightly for me, but others might enjoy them more.

M: Clean dry finish with a slight bit of roasty astringancy after the beer is gone. Moderate carbonation, not as drinkable as the normal CPA from Odd Side.

O: The strong roasted coffee flavor is nice in this beer but when you combine it with citra you get a confusing flavor profile. I think i'll stick to the CPA or get a stout but still glad I tried it.

This is my first experience with Oddside Ales and unfortunately it was not a good one. Tried this on a friend's advice and was quite disappointed. The ale starts well, pouring a handsome cola color with a slight head and decent lacing. The aroma is hoppy but with a sweet malt note as well. Not unpleasant but there is something a little bit off about the nose. It has that slightly ammonia-y aroma that ipas sometimes have but in combination with the maltiness it seems very out of place and disconjointed. The flavor of the ale follows suit. It is sweet with a very bitter finish. Nice notes of coffee and toffee in the malt and pine In the hoppy finish but at the end of it all; this one just seems off. The flavors don't mesh and there is definitely a note that is just off in the whole spectrum of tastes. This is definitely not a bad beer but it is also definitely not one that I will return to.

$1.99 for a 12oz bottle @ Siciliano's. No ingredients or specs per the website or bottle. Pours out to a clear light black, forming a modest light tan head with good retention and lacing. Carbonation is moderate, ~2.5 carbs or so. Modest layer of yeast in the bottom of the bottle. The nose is great...classic black IPA. Lots of citrusy hops with a nicely balanced roast . Mouthfeel is prickly throughout with a medium hop and roast acidity, with a medium light body...a little watery towards the finish.. The taste begins with the citrusy hops...papaya and mango, then some roast malt...like black patent. French Roast in the finish, tart hop acidity and pine in the aftertaste. Bitterness is medium firm. I would ballpark it in the 60-70 IBU range.

A nice black IPA, but it needs more body and base malt. I much prefer Founders over this, and Heavy Seas is probably the next best in my book. Worth a try.
