Sorry, I just didn't like this beer. Two sips and an unfortunate drain pour.

There is definitely a habenero kick to it, which lingers. The other components work against each othe, IMO. The mouthfeel is oddly smooth for a beer with this type of bite on the back end.

Thanks to Another6Pack for this one! 12 oz bottle into a teku.

Appearance: Pours a dark brown color that's almost pitch black. The head is a finger high, and khaki in shade. Retention is unimpressive, and the texture doesn't leave much lacing behind. (3)

Smell: Wow, there's a lot going on here. Mostly, it's the cinnamon and nutmeg I'm picking up - these spice notes could have been harsh, yet they're nicely ballasted by the pleasant chocolate elements. I'm getting the lighest hint of habanero pepper when this opens up. One niggle: I wanted the base stout to come through a little better. At least it nails the Mexican chocolate character extremely well. (3.75)

Taste: The first flavor I pick up is light habanero pepper flesh - it's quite fruity in particular. Subtle spicing transitions into a spicy finish, with hints of chocolate throughout. Only thing to complain about is that it needs more roast from the base stout. Whatever, I enjoy this a lot. (3.75)

Mouthfeel: I think this is too thin, and not nearly creamy enough for my tastes. It doesn't finish dry enough, either. This is where the beer lets down - the general mouthfeel doesn't do the unique flavor profile any justice. Carbonation is slightly above average for the style. (2.5)

Overall: Warts and all, I really enjoy this beer's unusual character. It might be too spicy for some, however. Apart from the lacking mouthfeel, this is a rock-solid beer that's hits my habanero craving right on the bulls-eye. Recommended. (3.5)

3.53/5: Good chocolate, really good hot peppers...not-so-good mouthfeel

Thick head, definitely got some habaneros in there. Not overwhelming which i am glad of. A good beer, not thick, lingering flavor which i also like. I am not disappointed that i got a six pack.

Had this on tap. After reading other reviews, I think some people must have very delicate palates when it comes to heat. Strong initial coffee & chocolate taste finishes in a smooth yummy tingle on the back of the tongue, with just a hint of pepper taste itself. I'm a big fan of Odd Side's unique combinations and I LOVED this.

Nice smell. Not a fan of the habanero. The heat of the habanero on the tonsils detracts the taste of the cinnamon, nutmeg and coffee.
