A: A solid two finger tall head formed in the english style pint glass made of mixed bubbles and a tinge shade darker then bright white. It slowly receeded and left a nice coat of spoty lacing on the edge of the glass and a mountin of pillowy foam on the beer. Underneath is a copper colored hazy beverage that I can bearly see my hand through with just a tiny bit of sediment at the bottom when it settled.

S: A slightly sweet toast and bread crust malt aroma hits first, followed by a low level of pine and grapefruit hop aroma. I also get some lemony notes as the glass is swirled along with some grassyness.

T: Assertive pine flavored bitterness hits first, followed by a toasty, caramel like malt flavor. In the middle of the taste comes some of the grapefruit hop flavors that take you through to the end. The finishing flavor is more of the bready malt flavor combined with pine/grapefruit.

M: Medium body beer with a moderate amount of carbonation. Very sessionable with the low abv (no noticable alcohol warming). A creamyness sensation comes through with the carbonation as its being sipped.

O: A nice flavorful, sessionable pale ale with a solid malt backbone and enough hops to keep the hop head interested. I could have used more aroma in the beer, but might have just needed a fresher bottle.

Straight pour from a 12oz pry-off bottle to a teku; no bottling or freshness date that I can see on the bottle, but I picked this up out of a cooler in Michigan just a couple of days ago, so, uh . . . hey, sometimes you gotta take a leap.

Appearance (3.5): Two and a half fingers of bone-white foam caps a slightly hazy, glowing golden body with some orange tones within. Lacing is light as the beer dies down, with just a couple of thin splotches and broken collar fragments scattered around the glass. Great body, very good head, “meh” lacing.

Smell (4.25): Some slightly spicy, herbal strangeness mixed with fruit (sweet orange peel, a bit of grapefruit juice, and something more exotic like passionfruit juice), and some dank, weedy resin underscores all of the above. Just a tiiiiny bit of honeyed, biscuity malt body backs it all up.

Taste (3.75): A nice balance of hop flavor—in the form of fresh-cut grass and something herbal—and bitterness—in the form of bitter orange peel, bitter herbs, and a subtle weedy funk—jive together on top of a very light, pale, bready malt base that’s less cracker and more rustic, country bread. It’s got a decently long finish that’s dominated by that bitter orange peel, which hangs around for a while but not too long. It’s very good, but not quite excellent—a little understated for that, in my opinion.

Mouthfeel (4.25): The beer’s got a light- side of medium-weight body with a dry feel and nicely dry finish, bookending a moderate carbonation that feels soft and smooth at first, and then nicely tingling as it washes out. Exceedingly drinkable, and better than most other examples of the “session IPA” thing.

Overall (4.0): This is a really, really solid example of the session IPA subgenre (or what have you), even if this is here called an American Pale. (It does, after all, say “session IPA” on the label.) It’s got a liiittle more juicy punch than most other examples, thanks to the Simcoe—which is handled very nicely in this beer—which also makes it more approachable than most others. Definitely worth picking up, and the price works.

Pours into a standard pint glass a dull golden with a thinner white head that lasts for awhile leaving a thin ring of lace behind.Aromas of pine and grapefruit with not much sweetness detected,a lighter crips malt base. One of the better flavor profiles of the style I have had to date, leafy and piney with more citric notes giving off a nice hop profile, lightly toasted grain with minimal sweetness rounds out the palate.Iam not a huge fan of the style,I guess I like getting hammered over the head with hops and bigger sweet malt bases but I do think this is a good representation of the style.
