$1.89 for a 12oz bottle @ BevCo. No ingredients or specs per the website or bottle. Opens with a brisk Pssssht. Pale golden, forming a tall rocky white head with excellent retention and lacing in part due to it's very brisk carbonation, ~3.5 carbs or so. The aroma is enticing. There is a distinct coffee note, but it also smells like they added chocolate extract flavor...like tootsie rolls. No discernable hop or grain aroma. No DMS, no faults. Mouthfeel is clean, crisp and light bodied. The taste is a recap of the aroma. A well balanced combination of coffee and chocolate (mostly chocolate extract) with some very light underlying grain flavor and a very subtle and delicate bitterness in the aftertaste. Subtle mineral finish. No off-flavors. East to drink.

This is an interesting brew. It goes down nicer than I thought, but the flavor is mostly artificial. Despite it, it's well balanced and easy to drink. I would buy it again.

There's couldn't have been that much coffee used - this Blonde Ale is still very much blonde. There's a not a drop of brown anywhere in its golden tone, bright radiance, or spotless clarity. Bean Flicker even lacks the foam of a latte or espresso; there's but a thin quilt of bubbles.

The aroma, on the other hand, tells a very different story - blindfolded, you'd swear you were drinking a highly caffeinated beverage. It smells like roasting beans - not so much brewed coffee - and has an astringent aura, one generated in collaboration with pungently earthy hops.

I had no idea what to expect from a blonde ale brewed with coffee - I couldn't imagine how it might taste. Turns out it's just as it sounds: a soft malty sweetness, light flavours of toasted bread and biscuit, blended with the oily astringency and smokiness of roasted coffee beans.

Even more surprising, there's a considerable amount of hops added too. As if there wasn't enough going on already; as if this wasn't unique enough as is. Bean Flicker is perhaps the most unusual recipe I've come across, not for its use of bizarre ingredients, but for its peculiar contrast of ingredients. This is unexpectedly agreeable and appealing.

I assumed something so dark, roasty and powerful as coffee would overwhelm a style that is clean, neutral, and light but I was amazingly wrong. Who'd have thought that a pale, easy-drinking and approachable beer could retain those qualities amongst such an appreciable coffee presence? Oddside Ales you are indeed very odd - but also clever and talented.

Not a huge coffee fan, so here goes...

Pours a brilliant medium golden with a frothy ivory head that dissipates somewhat quickly, likely due to glass residue.

Fresh roasted coffee dominates the aroma, as anticipated, with hints of chocolate and subtle grain.

Flavor reveals more chocolate than coffee initially, which carries throughout into the lightly roasty finish. There's a bit of a grainy character that surfaces, but the chocolate definitely dominates the profile. A slightly metallic/acrid note surfaces in the aftertaste, but the hot cocoa flavor almost makes up for it.

Body is moderate to a touch light, with moderate carbonation. There's a touch of astringency in the finish.

Not sure if it's the influence of the night's prior selection, but this brew seems extremely chocolatey, rather than coffee dominant, which suits my palate well. The base beer is an afterthought. If it weren't for the off flavors(due to the base beer), this would really do well.

Bottle dated 9/0/13, drank in Jan. 2014 (reviewed from notes). The body was a hazy straw/blonde. The head was off-white and faded to a ring and little island pretty quickly.

The smell was coffee and vanilla, mostly vanilla. Chocolate too. It mad me think of brownies. However, there were some strange whiffs of plastic.

The taste was sweet coffee. Chocolate and vanilla. Creamy. A mocha a suppose. Easy to drink.

The body was medium to light with modest carbonation.
