Okay here's the deal, there arent a surplus of good homebrew stores in brooklyn or queens. This is a known fact. Now, here lies brooklyn homebrew. I live roughly a traffic ridden hour and fifteen minutes away from this store. I pass two home brew stores on the way... thats how good BHB is. Its a one stop, always stocked, brew knowledge filled haven for beer geeks, brewers and everything in between.

Last time I was in there was about 2 weeks ago, and i was brewing a sierra celebration clone, i told the guy behind the counter which hops I wanted, and he said, you're probably brewing a holiday DIPA... I felt a brewer bond in that moment.

Cons: if you dont live within walking distance, its really awful to get there. but its worth the trip and the inconvenient (to me) location.

Pro's
All the buckets, carboys, and equip you'd need.

All the hard to find pellet and whole cone hops are regularly stocked. Hard to find an ingredient theyre out of.

knowledgeable staff. really know their stuff.

They seem to have everything. Granted I'm a novice home brewer; I have only brewed three beers so far. Nevertheless, the two times I've been there they had everything I needed for my recipe. The guy I met seemed very knowledgeable. For example, I wanted to brew a pilsner. However, being that it was summer, he suggested that I do a kolsch. He even gave me a printed recipe and adjusted the quantities to 1 gallon. My only complaint is that although helpful, he wasn't so friendly. Not that he was rude, it's just that he was not so affable. Also, it's not the greatest location being that its in kind of a dead and out of the way spot in Park Slope. Still, this is the place that I will continue to buy my homebrew needs until I can find a place closer to me in Manhattan.

I can't count the number of times Brooklyn Homebrew has been out of something I've needed. Cocoa Nibs, Black Pepper, Yeast and now Carb Tabs. It's now at the point where I order my stuff online and have it shipped to my house. It would be nice if their inventory person would stay on top of things.

These folks are the reason that I am an avid homebrewer. I bought my first kit from Brooklyn Homebrew about a year ago and have returned there regularly. I find that the quality and selection of grains and spices at BH is very good. The selection can be larger, but I like what they have. The prices are a bit higher than I've found at other locations, but they make up for it with excellent service. The staff here has entertained many of my stupid questions when brewing my initial batch. Overall, I think they're a great bunch of folks who are willing to be very helpful to novice home brewers.

I just started homebrewing, and this is where I went to get all my equipment and recipe ingredients. The staff was very friendly with answering questions and making suggestions. They were also very helpful and put together the equipment I needed while guiding me along and giving pointers. The store is not very big, but to my admittedly untrained eye, it looked to have just about everything a homebrewer could need. What was most helpful here is the different tiers of brewing kits that they've put together. This makes it very easy to start brewing because it takes the stress and guesswork out of figuring out what you need. You can just decide how much you want to spend (from $50-over $250) and then go to it. There are about 5 different sets which are available in this range, so everybody can probably find a set which suits them. When I decide to get more supplies or upgrade any of my equipment, I will come back here.

This is my first ever homebrew shop. I don't have anything to compare it to, but i was very pleased with how clean organized the place was. I had this impression that there would be a mess of loose malt and hops lying on the floor yet to be swept. Not the case. Also, the person that helped me out (me buying my first home brew equipment and first ingredients) was very helpful. She set my up with an ingredient kit as well as one of their equipment kits. I'm pretty sure that in my carboy i have a failed beer, but I will definitetly be returning to try again. they also have a good website.

I will soon be homebrewing but stopped by to get rhizomes to plant and this place is just great! The two owners are super friendly and very helpful.
They seemed to have a great selection of equipement but an even better selection of fresh ingredients. This will be my go-to place once I start brewing for anything I might need. They have pre-made ingredient kits and equipment kits and everything in between.
I can't wait to go back!
It's in a new location and they are always getting new supplies in. Their stock, from what I understand is getting better and will usually have what you need, in stock.
If you're not sure, shoot them an email and they will let you know before you stop by.
The go-to home brew shop in the NYC area!
