"There is no other way to describe this beer- The Ella IPA is a hop-bomb. There are many variations within this style and Ella is a true Northwest IPA. The malt character is provided by 100% Maris Otter; a robust two-row grain malted by hand in England. Hops are Simcoe for bittering and Amarillo for aroma. Citrusy and resinous, Amarillo has become a popular choice for IPA brewers and hop-heads."

On tap at the brewery.

A clear amber with a really creamy off white head with dense lacing, this looks great ! The nose is surprisingly subdued, with some citrus , orange blossom honey, some floral aromatics, a loyalty bit of a malt character, biscuit and dough, though a little stale. Moderately fruity up front, with orange peel, honey, a little toffee, before the doughy malt character becomes really noticeable. Almost a little bit oat like too. Drying, bitter finish, honey and citrus. A little too fizzy on the palate for my liking. Decent.

Hops! Amazing hops! Not balanced at all. The malt just barely supports this floral, citrus, amazing IPA. Love the nose and mouthfeel. Enough bitterness to dry it out and keep you coming back for more. A must try for northwest IPA lovers. If I were doomed to drink one IPA for all time I would choose this one. The citrus is grapefruit and slightly sweet, floral without being perfume like and great mouthfeel.

Mini-growler filled at Prodigal Son and consumed the same night after a wicked drive through a white out back to The Big, 3.27.11.

Full pour less than half a finger of small bubbled white head, average lacing. Cloudy orangish amber body, no visible carbonation. Nose is more tropical than resiny, small amount of citrus, balanced by big dose of Maris Otter breadiness and crystal fruity malt esters. Taste mirrors nose, but the hops are pretty muted, I think they faded over tiime, a bit surprised, this isn't the hoppiest beer on the menu. Mouthfeel is medium-full, good dose of effervescence. This was fairly tasty, but I was surprised at its lack of aggressive hops.

Got a pint on tap at Bailey's Taproom. Body is a rich amber color with a good bit of turbidity, topped by a finger of creamy white head that leaves some very pretty lacing. Huge aroma of citrusy hops, with big notes of grapefruit and cannabis. A mildly sweet malt provides notes of bread and mild honey.
Palate is huge all the way through with hops. Grapefruit, grass, and cannabis notes pop up, with the malt providing a slight sweetness that complements but never detracts from the bitterness. Finish is a lasting bitterness with just a touch of astringency.
Body is full and a bit creamy, nice for sure but lacking a little bit of the stickiness I tend to like in a hop bomb. There's also just a bit astringency and a medicinal, numbing sensation on the swallow. This is my first beer from Prodigal Sun, and so far I'm impressed.
