Poured from a growler into a shaker pint glass.
A: Very clear, pale golden color with one finger of white foam head. Heavy lacing remains on the glass.
S: Herbaceous and slightly spicy, with some suggestion of lime citrus and fresh berry fruit. Overall intensity of the smell is weak, giving an impression of vacancy.
T: Begins off-dry, with pithy grapefruit peel and crackery pilsner malt. Flavors mellow in the middle, with minimal acidic intrusion, retaining authentic grassy flavors as citrus fades. Bitterness is moderate but short-lived in the herbaceous finish, leaving a toasty blush to linger on the palate.
M: Thin viscosity, slightly acidic on the palate, with moderate carbonation.
D/O: This Orange County-brewed pilsner exists between two worlds, one of pronounced dry-hopped attitude, against the other of crisp and traditional malt backbone. It is reminiscent of Green Flash's Fizzy Yellow Beer in approach, but can't quite equal that other beer in execution. Comparisons aside, this is a versatile lager capable of pairing well with food favorites, or holding the attention of the palate all by itself with its interesting qualities. If it was 4.5% abv, it would be celebrated as a breakthrough.
