On-tap at Mother Earth
A: The beer pours dark amber in color with a fluffy off-white head.
S: The malt notes seem fairly appropriate for the style. Toffee and caramel (for the most part) with a bit of dark fruits. There is a fair amount of toast and bread, but there's a strange coffee and roast to it, too.
T: Starts off sweet witht the toffee and dark fruits, a little bit of bread, too. The toast is there as is a mild coffee flavor. There isn't an overwhelming roast or bitterness, but they're far too strong for this kind of beer.
M: the body and carbonation are both what I would call medium.
O: One of the least offensive beers of the day at Mother Earth, but still not terribly good.

Sampled 6/26/2011 at the brewery. I think this is made with American ale yeast (WLP001 to be specific) as the last time I was in I overheard the brewer telling someone that they couldnt get the Scottish yeast on short notice so they had to use the American yeast (Sierra Nevada).
Pours red/purple, mostly clear, head dissipates quickly, no retention or lacing.
Aroma is big time caramel and sugar. A splash of roast is about the only other thing in the nose.
Flavor is really sweet and a bit fruity. I get some cherry but also a bit of grape and maybe even a little peach. Behind that there is a bit of cardboard flavor and roast. Low bitterness. Interesting.
Body is medium, one sample is enough for me.
