So, the bottle states it's from Fiddler's Green Brewing Company. But BA say's its actually Matt Brewing Co. who are the makers of the Saranac line.
I've enjoyed Saranac's in the past. Let's give Fiddler's Green a go!
Pours a slighty hazy gold orange into my Lucky Labrador pint glass. Fairly weak head and retention.
Aroma at first was citronella, with orange and grapefruit notes.
Interesting english IPA flavors, which i'm not used to living out here in Oregon. Leafy/cholorphyl with pine. Again, I am getting citronella for some reason. A dry bittering is there too, making it not too smooth in the mouthfeel. Also a light sugar/saccarine flavor in the aftertaste.
It's a good reproduction of a classic English-style IPA. Not excellent, but solidly drinkable.

12oz. bottle into shaker pint on 3/17/09.
A - Clear, grainy-looking amber/orange body with modest carbonation and half a finger of white foam that quickly diminished into a thin, patchy retention and left virtually no lacing.
S - Some perfumy hops with a touch of citrus and sweet caramel malts. A bit of alcohol also creeps into the mix. Doesn't smell too inviting or very IPA-like.
T - Metallic and perfumy hops with a pithy citrus character and sour grape skins. A grainy and caramel malt aspect adds a bit of balance.
M - Thin to medium bodied and pretty watery with a bit of oily hop residue on the tongue and some mild carbonation. Finish is subtly bitter and pretty metallic on the palate.
D - I didn't have very high hopes for this one, but I thought what the heck? Well, I think I should have left this one on the shelf. While this bottle was likely past its prime, I can't imagine the hop character would become so sterile after a few months in the fridge. Not impressed with this one.

slight hazy apricot color. pours thick and settles slowly leaving nice horizontal lacing. nice center foam island, quite sudsy.
not hoppy at all on the first big swirl and sniff. if anything, quite sweet smelling cereal, raisins, dates? catching a yeasty sense, but very subtle. not bad.
some hoppiness asserts, but the malt/bready character comes right in, in the aftertaste (esp. sides of tongue it seems). it's certainly above average, but compared to others and the obvious grading curve....it's good, but not characteristic enough to stand OUT...now granted, as it warms (i am not slamming this as i would, yes, i know, a nuggest nectar...!), it expresses a little more depth. nice, would drink it again, definitely. just don't think i'll buy it again...is this by Saranac product?
mouthfeel delivers pretty nicely. creamy carbonation balance is nice.
nothing offensive at all...afraid of hops? don't worry, you'll be able to chug this. but don't do it too fast...there are notes to pause over. i think this might be better on draft. and i always want to return to something i think can be better. i can't heartily recommend it. i will suggest all beer advocates give it a shot for the education. overall, above average to good.

A.... Golden orange kind of color. Somewhat hazy. Nice head.
S... My sinuses are getting at me so I can't really go into details right now but what little of it my nose is allowing me to smell smells like an IPA should.
T... Wonderful straight-forward citrusy hop burst. Kind of grapefruity as the beer warms. Very citric hop attack. Not too heavy on the malt but there is some muted sweet malt in the backgroud if you look for it.
It isn't an overwhelming hop attack, nor is it very bitter, but it is high in flavor despite only moderate bitterness.
M... Carbonation is fine. The hops tingle on your tongue. All is well here.
D-- Goes down enjoyably. I look forward to my next sip
PS--- At only 6 bucks a sixer at the Total Wine this is a bargain.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass. Amber in color with thick, foamy, 1.5" head, which left nice lacing as it dissipated.
Can definitely smell some citrusy hops, but it is also pungent at the same time.
Tastes of sweet malts and hops, though the hops are not as dominant as would be expected.
Medium in body with lots of carbonation. Crisp taste with a slight aftertaste of hops. Easy to drink. This would be a good introductory IPA for someone who hasn't tried the style because the hops aren't too dominant.

Bought a single of this at total wine and more. Never heard of it and thought I would give it a go.
It pours an orange copper with a head that goes quickly to slight tiny bubbles.
I smell citrus hops and carmel malt.
Taste is a bit too malty for my taste, being an IPA. Also has an orange rind aftertaste that I don't much care for. I wasn't impressed in the least bit with the taste. Drinkability is ok but I'm not going to buy tons of this stuff.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a 20oz imperial pint. Thanks to neubernie for the hook-up!
A: Pours a hazy amber hue with a nice one finger dallop of bubbly off-white foam. Loads of sticky lace left behind.
S: Smell rather sugary, sweet, and syrupy. Waaay too malty. Hops show elements of citrus but are overpowered by the sweet caramel-y malt.
T: See above and add a little toasted malt. Meh.
M: Dry, spicy, and a touch oily. Nice.
D: If it were 100 degrees out this one would probably fare a little better. However, it's 30 out and there are much better IPA's available just about anywhere.

Not a bad beer but certainly not in the top tier of IPAs. Pours a bright copper-orange color with some head and lacing but all pretty standard. The aroma is fruity, a bit hoppy but kind of faint. When drinking the beer there is a decent bitter hoppy bite right away, actually it's nice, more so than I thought judging from the aroma. But after the initial hoppy flavor it kind of levels off. Slightly sweet, bitter and dry. The aftertaste leaves me wanting more. Not a bad price, not a bad IPA.

Smell is citrusy like grapefruit and cascade hops, slight hint of molasses. Pours to a deep golden color with little head that is quickly gone. Taste is hoppy but not the bitterness expected for IPA, the bitterness however comes through in the aftertaste. Mouthfeel is highly carbonated at the start then very astringent. This is a very basic example of an IPA, no bells or whistles here just straight, here it is hops. Tastes alot like an ideal homebrew. Great example of an IPA good down to earth brew. I recommend as a session brew. Not recommended for the faint of hop.

A: Amber colored, nice 2-finger head, great lacing. Pretty good retention.
S: Grapefruit, but not as much as many others. Doesn't smell quite as sugary. Caramel malt is curiously strong, and the hops come in underneath it. Smells like the malt might be a little overpowering.
T: Very pleasant fruit flavor - some grapefruit and lots of apricot. Really tangy. The hop flavor is hidden under it just a bit, but is strong and nice and bitter. This stuff tastes like candy - I like it quite a bit. The roasted caramel malt isn't what is sweet in this - it adds a toasted bread flavor to the background that complements the other flavors well.
M: Carbonation is a little high. This is a pretty dry and clean beer, which is good. Leaves the mouth feeling refreshed and clean. It's medium-bodied and non-astringent. A good mouthfeel overall.
D: Drinks pretty well - would be good for a hot summer day. Definitely good for someone who wants a fruity IPA that drinks well and isn't too sugary.

Appearance
Caramel-tinged orange; no head (age?); clear; low carbonation; no freshness date visible
Smell
Sweet, candy, syrupy, like dried apricots, but not nearly as appetizing
Taste & Mouthfeel
Starts off oddly sour, then turns bitter, with apricot, lemon, and sugar flavors present; not much malt and not a good hoppiness; somewhat thin-to-medium body and an ok level of carbonation
Overall
Pretty lack-luster and bordering on offensive (age?); hops are weak and not very appealing, and there is not enough malt either...blah!

This poured a clear gold color with white head. It smelled like a nice blend of floral and pine hops. It tasted like sweet floral hops with clean and bitter pine hops, and a bit of malt. It was fairly thick with no carbonation, and had a bittersweet aftertaste. Overall this was much better than the Amber. It had good flavor and body that wasn't too simple but wasn't overly complex either. Very nice!

Nice clear gold color with a large pillowy off-white head and very active carbonation that leaves nice sheets of lace. Nice citrusy hop aroma dominates with a touch of malts underneath. As nicely balanced in flavor as it is in aroma; nice hoppiness without being bitter in any way. Medium-light bodied with a nice light hoppy finish.
Very nicely balanced sessionable American IPA that proves you don't have to be over the top on hops.

Pours orange with a big white head. Great big aroma of flowers, citrus, and pine. Little notes of sweetness and alchohol on a closer whiff. Taste is small as IPAs go. Also leaves an oily felling on the tongue like microwave popcorn does. Metallic at the end. Not terrible but not that good.
