Notes/Commercial Description:
We're pretty sure HopWired is the first bottled new world India Pale Ale made with NZ grown pale ale malt and 100% unique NZ hops. We bet you'll find nothing else like it on the shelves.

Although there's plenty of malty sweetness, this beer is all about the hops. But unlike an American IPA, which will mainly challenge you with grapefruity and pine-like flavours and aromas, the kiwi hops used in HopWired produce something more like a tropical punchbowl: Passion fruit, limes, oranges and Sauvignon Blanc grapes to name but a few. A local Marlborough winemaker even said it smelled like gooseberries... Gooseberries? When did you last actually smell a gooseberry??

Decide for yourself, or just enjoy it without further complication. Cheers!

On tap at a reputable bar, so should be pretty fresh.

Slight haze with moderate cream head that dissipates to a ring of foam.

Aroma is very floral, with hints of grapefruit tartness and resin. Honeysuckle dominates. Dank cannabis surfaces late.

Flavor reveals tropical fruit notes of mango and pineapple mixed with grapefruit and tangerine, finishing perfumey and floral. Bitterness level is medium, with an herbal note surfacing in the aftertaste. Juicy, fruity hops dominate, and are supported by a lightly bready malt backbone.

I'm a sucker for flavoring over bittering hops, especially tropical fruit. Right up my alley.

All New Zealand hops. More subtle than an American IPA. Larger malt backbone. It's good, but not my favorite. Run of the mill.

This brew is absolutely incredible. IPA in my opinion has been vastly overdone in the United States and Canada, becoming a competition on how high they can get the IBU's with the same Cascade and Chinook hops, or trying new but-still citrusy or piney combinations. Hopwired is not your traditional IPA, it has the style, but with new and interesting flavours. Passion fruit is readily taste-able. 7.3%, 70 IBU's and yet smooth and super easy to drink. I am thoroughly enjoying this Kiwi brew.
