Notes/Commercial Description:
In my opinion, coffee rivals beer for the title of "greatest beverage in the world". I often say that I would rather give up beer than coffee. So it is only natural that we would attempt to make a beverage that incorporates both. If we were to succeed, surely this would then become the greatest beverage in the world? After years of research and trials in the garage, I have come up with what I think is the perfect marriage of coffee and beer: A hoppy double brown ale, that compliments both the roasty and fruity aspects of the coffee without putting up too much of a fight. The coffee was selected in collaboration with the Christchurch institution C4 Coffee and consists mainly of lightly roasted, delicate and floral, Ethiopian beans. Worlds are colliding and, in my humble opinion, greatness is achieved on the other side.

Never heard of 8 Wired before. Traded some Founders Harvest Ale for some Event Horizon and a bottle of this.

Poured from a bottle into an Allagash Tulip glass

Appearance is nice and brown. Big head on this baby. Had to wait a bit for it to go down to fill to the top.

Smell is all coffee. Is it 7 AM? Though it does smell like my wife just shoved a spoonful of sugar in it.

Taste is coffee and some nice sweetness. Bitter in the back.

Mouthfeel is a bit carbonated, but not too much

Overall I love this f'ing beer. I need to get more of it. Thanks to Rob at Common Market for this baby. I will be revisiting this soon.

500ml bottle poured into chalice 8/3/14 from notes

A slight haze in a maroon body that's almost purple when held to the light, a finger of mocha foam falls rather quickly leaving a thick ring where it existed

S more hops then expected, some orange and maybe even a little melon, light milk chocolate, some coffee but I was expecting more, brown sugar and a hint of floral and herbal hops

T coffee comes out a little more, very faint pine, still lots of fruit, brown sugars turning to caramel, everything I smells still there just a little more of it, a slight improvement over the smell

M medium bodied but ends up quite creamy making it fell heavy, no booze going down, light roast lingers on the finish

O not exactly what I expected but I enjoyed it start to finish, mild coffee notes work well with the brown ale aspect and throw in a pile of hops for good measure

something different is always nice and when different works that's even better, 8 wired continues to impress

interesting take here, like coffee ice cream. huge huge white head thats either a product of elevation change or time in bottle, but it starts slow and rises just off white well above the rim and takes some ten minutes to settle. the beer itself is hazy, thick, and milk chocolate in color. there is some yeast floating around too, clouding things up. the nose here is coffee first, rich chocolate malt second, not too much acidity or sweetness though, and a rather round complexion. the taste mimics the nose rather well, with a coffee front end, roasty and bitter, and a chocolaty malty backbone. no alcohol to taste at all, and not much caffeine going on here. thick and creamy feel, maybe some lactose sugar in this? honestly a lot like ice cream that you taste with coffee in it, or an affogato. lovely. a little pricing at some 11 bucks a bottle, but a very well made brew, and an excellent use of coffee.

Deep brown with faint head

Lovely coffee and malt nose, slightly earthy

Sweet coffee milkshake upfront but dry and bitter finish. Not quite as exciting as promised on the nose.

Medium bodied, nothing special

Would drink again, went well with scones and cream. Would be interested to know the caffeine content.

As I read the brewer's excerpts about both beer an coffee being the best beverages ever known, who am I to argue? Although I imbibe in both equally, one is meant for day while the other is reserved for night- but both come together with a taste that's best meant for either brunch or that late relaxing pick-me-up.

Its simple brown color is actually less simple as its bright clarity shines through tawny and garnet-red highlights. Building above is a creamy coffee-like creme that laces the surface and the glass with appearances of heavy whipping cream.

High coffee aromatics actually start out earthy and sweet, but with that deeper whiff a much more vibrant columbian coffee scent reveals nutty, scorched earth, butter and brittle. Much softer than "espresso" richness or burnt qualities, the base scent of toffee, chocolate and toast allow the base beer underneath to control its late scent.

To taste, there's a semi-sweet chocolate flavor that rises first. But a quick follow-up of nuts, dark wood, and cream round out a smooth and java-forward initial taste. It's middle is even more rounded with malt sweetness as well as a hoppy herbal note. It's earthen with grain, coffee spice, and chicory. Loving how the beer comes together, its coffee, chocolate and nut character is alive and well from sip 'til finish.

Medium-full, there's a "bigness" to the beer that suggests a fuller palate sensation, but the coffee and semi-dry late palate keeps things smooth, highly drinkable and delicately bitter.

Its final impressions are all about chocolaty "standout" character. Though reserved, I'm not quite sure whether the beer is bigger on brown or bigger on coffee- and that is all of its charm: Its a masterful ale that finds favor in any beer lovers glass!

Clear brown body coupled with a thick, creamy, light tan head; lots of clumps of foam on the glass. Brown sugar, charred grains, coffee and mocha aromas. Flavor follows the aroma with a pronounced presence of coffee grounds and an alcohol edge. Medium bodied, very smooth, semi-sweet.

A top-notch and easy drinking caffeinated brown ale. Excellent blending of dark grain sweetness with a healthy dose of coffee elements. A very pleasant eye-opener!

Bottle: Poured a light clear brown color ale with a rather large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of coffee is pretty intense with loads of floral notes without any astringency. Taste is also dominated by floral coffee notes with light caramelized notes. Body is about average with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Very good offering with great balance and no astringency
