Pours a handsome coppery color in the small snifter. Not much of the distinctive rye flavor, but some interesting graininess and a sweet malty taste.
This makes me think of a Baltic Porter with the winey taste. This is sharper and the grains less roasted, however. The bitterness is quite subdued, though the aftertaste finally gives way to some hoppy bitterness. IBUs are rated at 65. The brewer calls this an Imperial English Rye Pale Ale, which seems accurate enough since the rye is not distinct enough to catergorize this as a Rye Beer. Not that it tastes anything like an English Pale Ale, but it's quite drinkable.
