Tess's has been in Brunswick forever. I used to go there when I was in college. The word back then was, if you could see over the counter, Tess would sell you beer.
I swear the place doesn't look any different from 40 years ago. It's dark, dirty, and cramped. As you enter, beers are arrayed along the left and wine is center and right. The beer cooler runs the length of the left wall. Lots of 6packs and a bunch of bombers in the cooler. Lots of 750ml bottles sitting on top of the cooler. A wide variety of beers: Maine breweries, northeast breweries, Belgian beers, English beers (and ciders), some Germans, and a large number of macros (doesn't look like Bowdoin students tastes have changed much over the years). I bought a Zoe today which had little hops taste, so I wonder how long it's been sitting around.
Nice enough place for the selection, but there's probably better places in the area for beer.
