Served in a large (15.5 oz) brandy snifter.

A - Pours a brown-orange color with a half-finger of creamy white head that dissipated after about a minute. Moderate lacing. It seems a little dark for the style.

S - Popped open the can and was greeted with more malt than hops (canned 1/2, drank 3/8; that shouldn't be long enough to cause so much hop dissipation). Poured into my glass; the hops are there, just not very forward. Picking up a slight bubblegum smell, as well as something like carrots. Very unique. There's an underlying component of the smell that's frankly a little like vomit; it's not highly pronounced, but it's unappetizing when you pick up some of that.

T - Pineapple, orange rind, perhaps even a little brown sugar. Finishes slightly bitter, but not overwhelmingly so. Slight alcohol burn that's right in line with its 7.25% abv, though I've definitely had higher alcohol IPAs that mask it a little better. The aftertaste is actually quite good and makes you want to reach for more; it's just comparatively disappointing on the front end.

M - Right in line for the style. Slightly creamy, very smooth.

O - This was my first beer from Straight to Ale. It's nothing particularly special. The smell is a bit off-putting. Overall, a decent beer. I wouldn't go out of my way to get it, but I'd probably give it another try if I saw it at a restaurant since it seemed like it would balance nicely against pizza or a burger. It's just not all that good on its own, though it does leave me curious to try some of their other offerings.

Another in a long line of beers provided by the legendary woodychandler. Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has an orangeish color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of piney hops. Taste is piney hops, bitter up front, malts kicking in towards the finish. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a decent beer, but I was not blown away by it.

A - Translucent orange with a couple fingers of thick head.

S - Spicy hops, a bit herbal, and a touch of citrus fruit. Pretty typical hoppy IPA.

T - Biter and hoppy with a touch of maltiness to balance it out. Piney/spicy hops dominate this one. The 7.25% ABV shows a bit, but it's fairly well masked.

M - Pretty full bodied IPA with just a bit of carbonation. Resiny finish.

This is a solid IPA, but nothing that stands out among the herd. Perhaps I've become desensitized by bigger DIPA's but I expected a bit more from this one.

The Monkeynaut....to me...is more of an English IPA and an American PA. It is very bitter. The beer pours a nice clear copper with thin white head that is leaving a spotty lace. The scent is mostly bitter hops...maybe hints of pine and citrus....but not much. The taste is bitter with a bready type malt for balance. The mouthfeel is medium in body with smooth carbonation. Overall this isnt a bad beer....but its not one that I would session. The ABV and bitterness keeps it from being a all night beer.

A - Pours amber in color, semi translucent body and an eggshell head.

S - Citrus/tropical nose, herbal and a good hop bitterness aroma.

T - Bitter through and through. Piney hops , herbal, slightly vegetable and a bit of maltiness.

M - Medium bodied/carbonation. Not cloying by any means.

O - It's decent but nothing really to make it stand out from the herd of IPAs already out there.

a: translucent copper body with three fingers worth of thick creamy off white head. head retention is about average for an ipa and lacing is spotty.

s: pine needles and bread.

t: nice bready malt body up front, then turns to dry bitter pine needles.

m: starts out with a medium feel thanks in part to the pine resin, but finishes with kinda thin watery feel to it.

o: decent and easy drinkin but far from something i would want to keep stocked all the time.

A: Poured a golden orange color with good carbonation leaving a nice white cap

S: Plenty of citrus and flowers with a big blend of bread and caramel.

T: Caramel malt and breadiness hosts citrus notes with a light pine needle, light booze and hop bite to remind you it is an IPA. The finish is moderatley bitter but sweet, sticky and syrupy like extract

M: Nice, balanced,a little to sweet, what seems to be faded hops, caramel and orange zest sit on the palate

O: Clean it up and balance it out a bit

A cool extra, nice to get to try some AL beers. 12oz can into Funkwerks tulip.

A - There is maybe a finger or so of light beige head. Body is a little cloudy and straight up amber.

S - Light notes. A little more woody on the pine aroma. Very smooth.

T - It starts off with a great malty backbone before the hops hit your palate. Bitterness lingers for a while on this one. Seems to be so balanced at the start and then goes crazy. So you get that woody/biscuity flavor and then some harsh hops. Grapefruit rind.

M - Pretty average. Nice carbonation and body. The presence is good.

O - A nice little beer. Good to try a new state. I could see this being a good little barleywine if one was to let it sit for a few years.
