Fantastic local brew and fantastic brew all together. Deep dark color with hints of dark fruit. Sticky but in a good way. Doesn't get better as it warms. Quite bitter. Sort of boozy but not overwhelming. Very complex. Very tough to get in a bomber so on tap was my only option. I can't imagine it tasting this good out of a bottle.

Wow, looking over the reviews, did I get a bad bottle? The nose and the appearance has me excited. I had yet to find a STA beer I didn't think was incredible... until now.

As a hop head I like incredibly hopped beers. Loved the 100 plus beers Tim Rastetter was pumping out of Brew Works south of Cinci in the 90s. Love Pliney.

But this is as if they took all the hops and tossed them in at the start of the boil. maybe if the malt sense was a bit more upfront I might cringe, but still enjoy the rip the roof off the top of your mouth astringency, but most homebrewers I know who would never enter something this harsh.

Note: I also like fresh, so the grassy isn't the point. to me: except fresh hops not declared on the bottle. Indeed: no style is.

An inferior beer from a brewer I was close to idolizing. It's kind of like a magic trick where the set up is superb, but when the brewer attempts to carry off the illusion he fails in a very obvious manner.

Try a few other STAs. Promise you'll be impressed.

Straight to Ale Gorillanaut Imperial IPA

Pours a nice copper orange color. There is a nice half inch white head that stays for a bit and recedes slowly leaving a thin sticky film.

Aroma is of WOW!! This is a tropical fruit explosion. There are mango and papaya with some peach notes in the nose. There are slight citrus notes also present with some mild orange rind in the nose but its smooth and fruity.

Taste is intense and amazing. It starts off bitter and abrasive but in a good way. Pungent and citrusy with some grapefruit and tangerine in there. Then, a nice tropical fruit sweetness creeps in with notes of mango and papaya as in the nose. Then there is a nice earthy and grassy hop note and bitterness that brings all the flavors together. Quite bitter and intense. Definitely for big hop heads. The tropical fruit notes that entice you from the nose serve to mellow out the slight pine resins and big hop characters but they round out those intense flavors in a very nice way. Nice dry bitterness adds plenty to finish this nice light-medium bodied IIPA.

Overall, the aroma in this brew is awesome. Nice notes of tropical fruits that really entice the drinker. Then the intense hop bitterness with a background of tropical fruits brings the awesomeness back around. Well done.

It is good to live in Straight to Ale country. This is one beer out of three cases that made it to Nashville.

This beer pours a dark amber with some hues of port or sherry and a thin tight head that stays in it for the long haul.

Bananas foster is the first whiff that hits me over the head. Some very pungent hop oil hits with notes of pine and citrus.

The taste is huge. It encompasses almost the entire hop gamut: peachy, piney, minty, resiny, weed. And there is an awesome malt balance with a shit ton of caramel, biscuit and bourbon notes

Smooth and creamy with a medium body.

Great stuff another hit from STA. This brewery needs to get checked out by more people. Worth the trip!

a - poured a one finger thick light tan head into a snifter that disappeared halfway through. the body was a dark mahogany color.
s - minty sweet with some orange zest coming through.
t - dominating herbal, piney, spicy hop flavors with a caramel backbone.
m - medium and creamy.
o - solid DIPA here from STA, falls short of the classics but still a good one.
