A- reddish hue clear with little to no head. No lacing.

S-slight alcohol sweet caramel background

T-sweet but not cloying with nice esters and phenol balanced by hops bitterness. Slight alcohol heat that grows as temp rises.

M-good mouthfull nice body with good carbonation but isnt over the top

O- very nice beer would definitely drink ago. Easy drinking for 11% worth trying if you are able to find it. As it was only brewed once and running out. Grab one if you see it and try it.

Poured from 22 oz bomber into snifter glass.

A: Pours a deep ruby red with 1-2 finger off white head that settled fairly quickly. Some spotty lacing.

S: Sweet malts. A slight fruitiness. Cherries and apple.

T: Wow. Really nice balance of slight sweetness mixed with fruits. The ABV is well hidden. Perhaps not as hoppy as I was expecting. An almost English barleywine like quality.

M: Medium body with fairly light carbonation consistent with style and ABV.

O: I really enjoyed this one. Maybe not the best wheat wine I've had, but very nice brew.

Straight to Ale Vern's Wheat Wine, right to Brew Series, 11% ABV. Huntsville, Alabama.

Deep crimson shade, slim white head.

Aroma: very loud, big, booming, malt-alicious. Enormous fruit, berries, and cherries and apples galore, with alcohol spilling out just a bit.

Taste: Mmmm. Rich, thick, smooth and massive. Pleasing and potent. Full-bodied, fully flavored, but surprisingly easy on the palate. Long presence on the tongue. Bountiful mouthfeel. Immense, but utterly manageable.

I like this a ton. Yummity yum, yum, yum.

Thanks to kkipple for the bottle!

Vern’s Wheat Wine Ale pours a crimson stained copper color. It’s very, very hazy. Not unusual for the style. Backlighting gives it more of an orange look. I like it! Nice color. The head is a bit disappointing. It’s simply a collection of soft, off-white colored bubbles on the surface. It disappears very quickly. I’m guessing the abv is just too high for it to survive.

The nose is alright. For the most part, it’s very straight forward. Not all that complex. It kicks off with a relatively strong dose of caramel malts. It definitely smells sweet. Earthy and grainy notes are very prominent throughout. There’s a hint of cherry or some light dark fruit. It’s secondary, but is a nice complement to the other scents. Alcohol smells quite strong. That’s not a huge surprise given the style, but is strong and smells boozy.

The flavor is okay. It’s about on-par with the nose. Maybe a little better. The malt base definitely has a caramel component. It is sweet, but doesn’t seem overly so. Earthy and grainy notes are a huge part of the flavor profile. The cherry or dark fruit flavor is a lot stronger here. It’s alright, but honestly doesn’t add a great deal. There’s a bit of a grassy hop flavor in the mix. Tastes like some form of noble hop. Alcohol is definitely there. It’s boozy and a bit warm. Finishes earthy and grassy with a good dose of booze and cherry.

The body is on the heavier side of medium. Carbonation is rather light. I honestly wouldn’t mind a few more bubbles. It goes down okay, but doesn’t hide its size very well. It’s boozy and warm.

I’m amazed to be drinking an 11% abv beer from Alabama. While Vern’s Wheat Wine is a pretty good beer, it’s a huge step forward for a state that’s had its beer shelves flooded with mediocrity. It’s alright. Definitely worth a try…especially if you live in Alabama.

My second wheat-wine in 2 nights! This one is nothing like the Boulevard Harvest Dance from the night before...

A: Murky and orange-brown with an off-white head of a finger. Shows good lacing and a fair amount of retention.

S: Caramel malts, molasses, with a big alcohol presence. Other notes are of oak wood, dark cherries and earthy hops.

T: Rich tastes of malts and strong alcohol, plus dark ripened fruits. Has a flavor of wood aging as well.

M: Carbonation is medium on a full-bodied and meaty feel. The finish is rich and fruity, with alcohol warming.

O: I liked this beer, but it didn't seem anything like the previous wheat-wine I just tried. This tasted like an Old Ale to me, and didn't have the light malt character or hop profile I'd expect from a wheat wine.

Got this in a bomber bottle from Birmingham, AL only a few weeks after the sales of bombers were made legal in the state. Straight to Ale is a Huntsville brewery and it's nice to see they've already churned out a bomber for the local beer lovers.

A: A very dark amber fading to copper, fairly hazy and not particularly appealing. Solid head.

S: The alcohol is very noticeable in the nose, blending into wheat malt and dark cherry. The smell isn't quite as heavy as I expected from such a hefty brew, however. (It sits at 11%)

T: The taste follows the nose pretty well. Heavy booziness, which is expected from the style, but it's still a bit much considering it is on the low-end for ABVs of the style. After the alcohol finally fades, there's some nicer dark cherry and heavy wheat notes. Not much else though.

M: The mouthfeel is surprisingly good. Vern's is my first Wheatwine, but I am no stranger to Barleywines. The "fluffy" mouthfeel is very true to style and enough is left behind after the first swallow to actually taste the finer notes when the alcohol has receded.

Overall: A solid attempt at a tough style, especially laudable due to the brewery's infancy. If the booziness could be contained just a bit more, it would be a phenomenal brew. I probably won't go out of my way to buy this again, but I by no means regret giving it a try.

As to the other review, I hope the headache went away and that reviewer is feeling better. I quite enjoyed this wheat wine. It has an almost "spiciness" to it that is quite unique. To be honest at 11% this is quite smooth and drinkable for what most would think would be a sipping ale. The color is a cloudy reddish color and the mouthfeel has many components besides a bit of booziness which would be expected for something this high in abv. All in all a great rendition of this sparsely attempted style. Good job Straight To Ale.

A: Poured a mahogany color witha medium whispy cap, some bubbles and light lacing

S: Very faint. I only got some faint hints of dark cherries

T: Immediate dark cherry presence with some wheat and lingering sticky finish. I felt this was pretty one dimensional. Dark red cherries and wheat plain and simple

M: Big bodied, well carbonated, sticky, boozy

O: Pretty average. I almost believe this beer may contain sulfites. After two sips I received the worst red wine like headache.
