Rocks Pale Ale is an American Style Pale Ale. Made with American Ale yeast, this extremely flavoursome beer pours a deep gold colour with a tight white head. With big citrus and stone fruit aromas on the nose, the beer is supported with a firm bitterness, solid malt backbone and zingy hop flavour from a mix of cascade and liberty hops thrown late into the kettle. This beer is balanced by using Munich and caramel pils malt to give a full bodied taste lasting. Rocks Pale Ale showcases the best of malt and hop flavours made available to brewers.

Pours dark amber with a small head.
Nose shows sweet malt, orange marmalade and spicy and earthy hops. Simple but quite nice.
Hoppier flavours, more spicy but also soft floral notes and a hint of grapefruit. Sweet malt underneath gives a biscuity and orange marmalade character.
Carbonation is too high.
More English than APA.

Bottle. Had this many times on draught but never reviewed it.

Brilliantly clear stained glass orange with a modest, slightly off-white head. Retention is so-so, falling to a slightly raised ring and film.

Nice amounts of candied mandarin, pineapple, mango and lifted grass over a restrained malt and slight grainy backnote. Clean with good clarity.

The tropical and citrus character doesn't play out so well, due to the bitterness which muscles in and, in combination with the grainy note results in a borderline metallic character.

Light body with pretty aggressive sizzly carbonation. Earthy bitterness lingers for quite some time.

Solid Pale Ale which is slightly better from the keg in my view.

Rather plain but enjoyable pale ale. Unmistakeable hop aroma and taste, but not overpowering (i.e. NOT an IPA). One of the most flavorful beers I tried while in Australia (as compared to the more bland Hahn or number of Summer Ales available). A definite must try for anyone looking for something more flavorful.

Previously the 1809 Pale Ale, this has been re-branded with the rest of the range. Introducing The Hangman.

Pours a pale hazed yellow colour, with a fine-bubbled slick of sheeny white. Body looks pleasantly heavy, with low carbonation levels and a slow bead. Lacing forms in sheets. Looks good.

Light fruits on the nose, with a good citric bite. Rather sweet all up, with just a dose of grainy malt. Rather mild on the hops, but it's quite pleasant.

Taste is similar, but the bitterness is slightly more pronounced than expected, giving a pleasant earthiness and a clean crisp finish. Very slight hint of that grain, almost giving it a German pilsener note. Mouthfeel is crisp and pleasant.

Very drinkable and clean. It shows off what Rocks does well: well-made, simple, drinkable beer.

Pours a golden copper colour, with a half finger head. Lacing good

Restrained grapefruit on nose - likely due to serving temp.

Taste is citrus / grapefruit driven, somewhat dull at the start, but the palate livens as it goes down. Balanced bitterness.

Carbonation light - good for a session.

Overall, good beer, somewhat in the style of LCPA. As with all Rocks ales I have tried, well suited to sessioning. A real beer drinkers beer, rather than one to sit and discuss the merits of all night. Good stuff. Whole is greater than the sum of the parts.

hangman is a great pale ale, a nice aussie take on the american type. this one is honey colored with a beautiful and lasting sticky white head on it over an inch tall and leaving ring lacing as i sip it down. the hops are balanced by a nice fresh grain profile of pale malt and a little 40 or 50 crystal, but the hops are the stars. not sure which varietals are used, but it has a very high alpha cascade type profile thats at once grassy and citrusy, with a overriding tangerine element that really brightens this up. i really like how light and clean this is, having spent a few years down under, i can say that if this were available to me then, it would have been a staple in my fridge. its so well made, super light, and full of flavor thats just a little different than what we brew here in the states. i think the hops are just distinct enough, but the beer stays real refreshing, real well carbonated yet smooth, and the low alcohol helps it be a session brew under the hot sun. fun stuff, remarkably well done, wish i could get my hands on some more of their stuff, but scoring this bottle was a stroke of luck and the work of a close friend. would love to go back and visit this place!

Mild citrus hop aroma with a light malt backing.

Clear, gold colour with a nice white head. Decent retention.

Low malt flavour with a moderately-high bitterness. it could do with more late hopping.

Medium body with moderate carbonation. Quite crisp.

A nice APA. More late hops would significantly improve it but it isn't bad.
