This beer is the Great White Buffalo. Me and a buddy crawled up to the bar after hiking and destroyed from the trails. The pretty bartender poured each of us a pint and I seriously almost had a crisis in me pants! I can still remember the taste and smell and this was over 5 years ago. I bought two handles of it and brought it home where it kept well but still was not the same at from the tap. Best beer I have ever had.

Appearance: Almost pitch black, tiny head.

Aroma: Roasted coffee an malt, toast, a hint of chocolate.

Taste: Roasted malts and a little bit of coffee. Bitterness in the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied, nice and creamy.

Overall: Quite easy drinking and light, but the malty chocolate and the roasted flavour are nicely enhanced. Not bad for a low alcohol stout.

This isn't much to look at--comes out a bit lighter than other stouts. Not much head, but persistent ringing.

Hops are noticeable in the smell, which is a positive sign, but the taste is dominated by burnt oat and burned malt, chocolate and coffee. It's pretty good (and drinkable), although dominated by the burned flavors.

The body is very good for a 4% beer, probably one of the better ones in Utah, but I've gotta ding it for the carbonation, which I found excessive. Probably my favorite of the beers I tried that the Moab Brewery pub.

a: deep black w/ a light ring of off-white foam and a few foam wisps

s: very light coffee. chocolate. molasses. almost fragranceless.

t: licorice. coffee. dark chocolate. toasted grain.

m: smooth w/ light carbonation

d: a decent oatmeal stout but there are better offerings especially from the conceited beer schmucks across the pond.

Poured a dark brown color, nice carbonation, nice little creamy tan head, some sticky lacing around the edges. The nose is malty, slightly bitter, roasty, and lots of caramel. The taste is very nice, malty, bitter/roasty, and a good dose of caramel. Medium body. Very drinkable, they should bottle this one. Recommended.

Dark brown color, small tan head that had a short life. The aroma was roasty malt with a nice hint of hops and maybe a little citrus, chocolate and coffee. Taste is chocolate and some smoky malts. Good example of an oatmeal stout and one of my favorite Moab brews.

This is a funny stout. This has the best body of any oatmeal stout in Utah, a bit heavy and foamy, but the beer relies on roasted malt to carry the brunt of the flavor profile. It’s not bad, but its a bit too dry for the style.

On tap at the brewery.

A - Dark brown, light showing through around the edges. Lighter than I'd think, more like a porter. Maybe a one-finger head, which fades to a thin ring around the edge. No lacing.

S - Chocolate and maybe a hint of coffee grounds in the nose, with plenty of roastiness.

T - Nice enough flavor, with the roasted malts and coffee notes leading to a cheerios finish. While pleasant, it fades very quickly. No alcohol that I can detect, which is not a surprise given the 4% abv.

M - Maybe I've had too many RISes recently, but this is thin, very very thin. Too much carbonation on top of that, and the finish is fairly dry. Not very good.

D - Well, as light as this is, and the low abv combine to make this one that you could drink all day without issue. It's pretty hot in Moab, and this still doesn't weigh me down.

O - Not bad, but nothing special. It's one of the better ones that the brewery offers, and this place is the best in town. I just wanted more oomph.

On-tap at the brewpub: Acuatly listed on their menu as Black Raven- Thin ruby hued brown color, no real head came with it, just some thin ivory colored foamyness around the top ring. Smell has a mild roasty edge over the top with a sweet oat brigade and vanilla notes. Taste is pretty good, not too rich or thick, but tasty non the less. Nice coffeeish roast flavor that sits a while fading off to leave some oaty sweetness and drys out slowly. Feel is a pretty thin though, low carbonation and lightly dry and crisp. Its a tasty little stout but is missing some of the deeper chacteristics as far as the body goes.

A: It poured a black colored body with a moderate one finger off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a dense and even lacing on the glass from the fist sip to the last.

S: It had an aroma rich with oats, roasted malts and dark semi-sweet chocolate.

T: The taste was well-balanced, with flavors of semi-sweet chocolate, oatmeal and lightly roasted coffee. It finished wet and sweet with a noticeable bitter coffee aftertaste.

M: It was a medium bodied brew with slight carbonation, a dry finish with a bitter aftertaste.

D: It is an oatmeal stout through and through. Its low ABV and moderate body make it a less than satisfying stout.
