Caps is a Bellingham institution. A dive bar in the best possible sense of the word, the bar has been open since the early 1900s and in its current location since the 1930s. A small narrow room Caps has multiple personalities. During the day it's a quiet bar with the Old Boys having lunch and discussing the weather and current events. In late afternoon the after work crowd comes in for a couple after happy hour drinks. And at night the local hipster/cool kids take up residence.

The service is generally quick and efficient, but during busy times you might wait a few moments. The beer selection is somewhat limited, but solid. Brews you can expect to find are: Mirror Pond and Black Butte Porter from Deschutes, Stone IPA, Georgetown Mannys Pale, Pilsener Urquell, Fat Tire, Boundary Bay Scotch Ale and a seasonal from New Belgium and a couple of BMC taps. Caps also pours a stiff cocktail.

The food is basic bar food, sandwiches, soup etc. There is weekday food special for $1. I like the pulled pork sandwich on Tuesday for a buck. Caps has some of the lowest beer prices in town, micro pints for $2.75 during happy hour, all day happy hour on Sunday and Micro Mondays.

Caps has the best jukebox in town (even if they tend to play it a bit on the loud side) and free popcorn to munch on while watching a game on TV.

Overall, Caps is the neat kind of neighborhood tavern everyone loves. (1,396 characters)
