If you live with in a half-hour to an hour of Rt. 9 by Marist College, you have to travel down to this place and check it out. Half Time offers, by far and away, the greatest selection of beer that I have ever seen. Everything is broken down easily by country, make and style. They have both a monstrous selection of unrefrigerated and refrigerated beer. To make this even extra special, they keep a good 10 or so beers on tap which you can get for the road from 8-oz. to a growler. They also serve a wide selection of fine, yet affordable cigars, which are kept in a nice humidor. It's also the kind of place that will hold beer tastings. For the Hudson Valley, it is the finest beer distributer around.

Awesome beer selection. Spent an hour in the store and was able to get most of the beers I wanted to try. They fill growlers and even have cigars. Wish this place was closer to CT.

Very happy to have this place nearby.

Setup as far as craft is pretty much one long aisle of Domestic and some smaller aisles broken down by European countries. They currently have end-caps for DFH, Rogue (?), Ommegang and Brooklyn and they have an area in the back for domestic cans. The domestic craft may have been sorted out alphabetically at one time (Stone is near Troegs) but that went out the window. They tend to toss the odder Craft co's near the bottom shelves and save the top for the bombers and then the bigger names (though Central Waters got shafted with a bottom shelf). They have a nice selection of beers in the coolers but bombers are mainly out on shelves. Beers behind the register usually come with bottle limits or in some cases are just showcased as a new arrival or popular beer.

Selection is always the most important aspect for me and they do a great job and have all the main players. They tend to get stuff a bit later in the game than the other locals, but price wise they keep the more exclusive beers competitive. There are some odd exceptions like no Evil Twin or NEBCO (and they took forever to get Jack's Abby when they entered NY) that are prevalent most everywhere else but at Half Time so I don't know the logistics that come into play when a place this size isn't stocking a well known brand. They also get some "exclusives" with certain breweries that are not regular to NY: currently it's Lazy Magnolia. I would always check bottle dates on these exclusives as when they got Great Lakes (first in the area) the IPA's were very close to expiry so I am not always convinced they don't get some beer dumped on them by distributors and pawn it off as an "exclusive".

The fact that one can break up ANY 4/6 pack is a huge huge plus. Saves a buyer from investing in something that they may not need a full 4/6 of and allows for mix-6 packs that aren't from some predetermined section like in many beer stores locally.

They do a decent job with removing aging beers but the usual suspects like Firestone Walker, Green Flash and Maine Brewing Co (to name a few) have to be checked for dates as their stuff sits (that's the case anywhere locally and not exclusive to Half Time). The will put old beers on a discount shelf near the entrance but that tends to be really off brand stuff or odd foreign styles or beers that are clearly old by the title (Spring Fling in the fall for example).

The growler fills can be shockingly bad and totally random: multiple types of the same type of beer on draft (who needs 3 Brown Ales out of 10 taps in the summer?) and the turnover on drafts are incredibly slow. They do not do any tap takeovers so nothing is really ever exclusive or something worth traveling for. Seems as if they just toss any old keg on the tap once one kicks. Most stuff they tap is likely unsellable in a keg and it's not unusual for something like SN Pale Ale to be the best option on tap.

The workers there are great and very knowledgeable--they are what keep me coming back as they can answer any question about any beer, tell you when a beer is due to be released etc. Their accessibility is a 5 in my book and there is always at least one very knowledgeable person there at any time it seems. Everyone is a beer connoisseur.

All in all a great place and I think while it was trailblazer when it first opened due to its size and selection other places have caught up (including it's own sister store) so its novelty may have worn off. It's not kept up as well as it used to be (getting stuff later than other local places, slower to get new brewers to the area) and the growler section is pretty much useless. But anyone without access to a shop that has 1000's of beers will come away with something.

if you have an option to go to the Mamaroneck location do not hesitate to choose that one over the Poughkeepsie spot.

NH resident, in the area for work....Wow! Quite the selection, bought a case worth of singles that I can't get or find in NH or Mass for that matter.

I will be coming back here to stock my beer fridge on return trips for work.

Not used to seeing the 5 cent bottle deposit as a separate item on the receipt.

Great beer store that I'm lucky to live near. Many times the difficult thing is picking out what to actually buy as hard not to find more that I want then I can actually drink. They seem to carry almost everything distributed in NY and the best part is you can purchase everything by the bottle so no need to buy multiples to try a new beer. Have enjoyed some fresh growler fills as well. Prices in reason for NY. They seem to employee people who know and like beer if you have questions; I know many of them are quite knowledgeable and active in local beer community.

A huge beer store in Poughkeepsie, widely renowned. My expectations for this place were absurdly high due to other BA's reviews, and those expectations weren't quite met, but this is still a must stop due to the wide selection and helpful staff. Multiple aisles of beer separated by country, and a solid growler selection. The "best stuff" is behind the counter, visible. Workers were very knowledgeable about the selection and helped me determine if it was worth dropping $20 on BA Boris (they said it would be, and happily, it was). Definitely recommended.
