I'm fortunate enough to live walking distance from this store. Unlike any distributor, this place is setup to cater to the beer enthusiast. If you're looking for that great special on Bud Cases, go elsewhere ... this place isn't for you.

An extensive collection of craft microbrews from around the world. If it's available for sale in the state of NY, there's an excellent chance that Half Time will have it.

The aisles are setup by country to help narrow down what you're looking for or to assist in browsing by geography.

There are also 10 Taps available for Growler fill-up.

I highly recommend stopping here if you're from out of town and want to do some shopping.

Ask for Manager Matt, or look for him at the bar nextdoor at Crew. He's extremely helpful and generous. A pure pleasure to talk beer with. :-P

Can't say it has much of a "vibe" since it is just a store, but great beer selection. If there is anyplace else within an hour drive that can compare, I haven't found it yet. Pretty much the only place I bother buying at during the couple times a year I'm in the area.

Awesome beer selection. Spent an hour in the store and was able to get most of the beers I wanted to try. They fill growlers and even have cigars. Wish this place was closer to CT.

Setup as far as craft is pretty much one long aisle of domestic and some smaller aisles broken down by European countries. They currently have end-caps for DFH, Rogue, Ommegang and Brooklyn and they have an area in the back for domestic cans. They have a nice selection of beers in the coolers but bombers are mainly out on shelves. Beers behind the register usually come with bottle limits or are just showcased as a new arrival. It's worth noting that their "limited beers" usually run significantly higher priced than other area stores (ex. Maine products are jacked up by a $1 or $2 over locals and I recently saw a $44.99 CC Big Sound when the going rate locally was $34.99).

Price-wise they are competitive but not the cheapest in the area by far. There are some relatively "big name" brands that they do not stock like Stillwater, Evil Twin, Caldera or NEBCO. They also get some "exclusives" with certain breweries that are not regular to NY: currently it's Lazy Magnolia which by all appearances isn't some major coup.

Being able to sample a single beer or break up an expensive 4/6 pack keeps me coming back. It's nice that they don't have some predetermined section like many beer stores do. Without this aspect I probably wouldn't frequent Halftime at all but for me this is THE draw to the place.

They struggle with removing old beers and it's not only the usual suspects like FW, Green Flash and Maine Brewing Co. I would check any and all bottle dates unless it's clearly a current seasonal. They will put some old beers on a discount shelf near the entrance but that tends to be really off brand stuff, odd foreign styles or seasonals that are clearly old.

The growler fills can be shockingly bad: multiple types of the same style of beer on draft, seasonals that have been on tap since the prior season and/or "local" NY breweries that aren't the best examples of the great beer being produced in NY. The turnover on drafts are incredibly slow unless they sneak in a BCBS or a local like Carton. They do not do any tap takeovers so nothing is really ever exclusive or something worth traveling for. Seems as if they just toss any old keg on the tap once one kicks with little regard to what time of year it is or what else they may also have on tap.

The workers there are great and very knowledgeable--they can answer any question about any beer, tell you when a beer is due to be released etc. There is always at least one very knowledgeable person on staff at any time.

All in all while it was trailblazer I suppose when it first opened due to its selection and the novelty of being able to break up 6ers,other places have now caught up. I go there when I want try a beer and am not initially willing to buy in 4/6 format--if I like it I tend to seek it out elsewhere where price is more competitive. The store is not kept up as well as it used to be and at certain times of the year you can walk in and find huge gaps in the shelves and it looks like bomb hit the craft aisle. Overall anyone without access to a shop that has 1000's of beers will come away with something BUT check your bottle dates!

NH resident, in the area for work....Wow! Quite the selection, bought a case worth of singles that I can't get or find in NH or Mass for that matter.

I will be coming back here to stock my beer fridge on return trips for work.

Not used to seeing the 5 cent bottle deposit as a separate item on the receipt.

Great beer store that I'm lucky to live near. Many times the difficult thing is picking out what to actually buy as hard not to find more that I want then I can actually drink. They seem to carry almost everything distributed in NY and the best part is you can purchase everything by the bottle so no need to buy multiples to try a new beer. Have enjoyed some fresh growler fills as well. Prices in reason for NY. They seem to employee people who know and like beer if you have questions; I know many of them are quite knowledgeable and active in local beer community.

A huge beer store in Poughkeepsie, widely renowned. My expectations for this place were absurdly high due to other BA's reviews, and those expectations weren't quite met, but this is still a must stop due to the wide selection and helpful staff. Multiple aisles of beer separated by country, and a solid growler selection. The "best stuff" is behind the counter, visible. Workers were very knowledgeable about the selection and helped me determine if it was worth dropping $20 on BA Boris (they said it would be, and happily, it was). Definitely recommended.
