I've been here only once before, and with DFH 120 on tap, it was high time I paid a second visit. Parking is "free" valet (which you obviously would tip, so not free), which I personally can't stand at all, but since it's hip/upscale, I understand. BF & I elected to instead use the plain ol' street parking just a little ways down. I expect there might not be as much of that convenience at a busier time, though, so keep that in mind.
The overall atmosphere/vibe is a great. Slightly upscale and trendy, but still quirky (loved the music) and not snobby. We were both wearing jeans and didn't feel uncomfortable, but it was for an early dinner rather than a night out, so just keep that in mind. Since it was early in the evening, bf and I got a huge comfy booth to ourselves. The clientele appeared to be foodies or beer nerds also wanting that "only served on tap in Texas" DFH 120.
Service was good but nothing extraordinary. Waitress wasn't able to answer a question about an ingredient on the menu, but she was more than happy to run back to the kitchen to check for us. I've had better luck at the bar the last time I was there - those people seem to know their stuff, which is great for a place like this.
Selection is lots and lots of beer. The bottle list is generally what you can get at your craft beer bottle shop (and with the markup, wasn't that interested); however, their taps are great. Love the chalkboard - after all, that tap list is always changing. They do rare/special tappings frequently and post about them on social media (Facebook/Twitter), so it's very helpful if you've got your eye out for something specific and special. The taps are reasonably priced for what you're getting (my DFH 120 was $6 for the glass - again, remember, this is a nice place). No crap beer at this place.
The food is well...I felt like I was eating from menus from Top Chef. It is upscale, no doubt about it. I liked the small plates for sharing, definitely helpful for big groups. The food is in the "a bit pricey" (a bit, not overly) area for what you get. It's fancy food, but the menu is overly complicated in my opinion if I can find several words and wonder "What the hell is that?" It's for foodies, and I'm not that. But the quality was great, I'll give them that. Got my bf to try tofu for crying out loud!
Overall, if you're in Dallas and you like beer, you should try this. However, not really going to be a regular hangout for me, since I don't live in the neighborhood. I'd consider it a special treat type of place.

Fascinating little spot this is. There is a neat sculpture overhead as you walk in and while small and cozy, the atmosphere is big in here. I love the stained glass windows with pop icons painted in. Creates a wonderful ambiance from the colored light coming in.
Sat at the bar and had a nice chat with the bar maiden. We lucked out coming in on a weekend of an event and getting to taste some rare tappings.
Price is on par with other trendy craft pubs and the food menu is amazing. Food is certainly not your average bar fare and the price reflects that. They have a very nice balance with the rotators vs. staple offerings. Will definitely come back in next time I was in town.
Recommended to us by everyone in Dallas within the craft scene.

Visited the Moth for the first time this weekend. It was recommended to us by almost every other place we hit in Dallas. It was relatively easy to find although there was a little construction near it. The free parking lot was a short walk away, would be nice to park close without valet but its nice joint so its understandable.
Walking in we felt a bit underdressed. For a bar/lounge place it was very upscale and trendy. We almost got a table but since we were only interested in the beer we sat at the bar. Very comfy stools btw. The 40 taps or so they had were all nicely arranged with chalk board above to write whatever was on that tap, guess they change them often enough.
We got there during a cellar fest, so they had afew rare and cellared beers either on tap or bottled. I had the Mikkeller Black Hole (red wine), which was really awesome. The beer selection in general was impressive, rivaling that of the Flying Saucer.
All in all i liked the place, but it was a bit pricey and we didnt even eat. Couldnt go there as often id go to the Saucer just for that reason. But for special occasions it would fit just fine.

Atmosphere: A nice upscale place, low light, able to have a conversation, crowd seems a bit yuppy Dallasite, not a hippy hangout by any means.
Service: Friendly, professional, but a little lacking in beer knowledge. I've been twice and both times the servers didn't really know much about beer, once bringing me the wrong beer.
Selection: A good, but not great selection. Maybe I've become a little jaded, but I expected to see some more local representation. They did have some Live Oak Hefe, which is always nice.
Food: This is where they shine. Bacon Lollipops were decedent.
Value: Pricey, but worth it. Small plates mean you can get out with a reasonable bill.
Overall: I try to visit whenever in town.

visited on a Saturday afternoon. A little surprised that they had valet parking going on with the self parking a block away. Great selection of taps with lots of local Texas and other crafts with not a Miller lite in sight. They were in their afternoon to dinner transition and the bar staff situation was very confusing with four different bartenders waiting on us over the course of a few hours, often two (or sometimes none) at the same time. But all-in-all the service was pretty good with very knowledgeable bartenders. Really liked the easy to read chalk boards over the taps - would like to see that elsewhere in the DFW area. A little uneasy on the vibe - it's a beer bar trying to be an upscalish restaurant. Bar area was attracting beer-nerd types with the restaurant (which is open to the bar) attracting a very different cliental. Didn't try the food but it looked interesting. Overall a very enjoyable beer venue.

This was my go-to place while spending a summer in Dallas. I was a weekly visitor to the bar, and quickly became friendly with the bartenders. The bartenders always provide outstanding service to me and anyone else who walks in the door. The taplist is of very high quality (w/ a good TX-centric happy hour), as others have mentioned, and the bartenders are quick to provide useful suggestions and tastes. Top marks for the bar for quality and service.
Two problems with the place, neither having much to do with the bar. First, I don't care much for the bulk of the clientele. It's too yuppy for me. Usually places like this are hipster-laden, but hipsters don't really exist in Dallas, so this place has yuppies. Second, the food isn't great. It's a bit overcomplicated and difficult to thematize. I suspect they would call it 'New American gastropub.' There are a lot of small plates which look alright. The mussels are extremely buttery, not brothy. The burger is fine, but not worth $13.50.
Drink beer here. Chat with the bartenders. Ignore the herds.

For my money, the Meddlesome Moth is not only the best beer bar in the DFW Metroplex, but is also a very well done, upscale restaurant. The small plate concept is great when bringing a group together for a celebration, or for grabbing a drink when an out-of-towner wants to get together.
I've been to the Moth three times and each time I've had good service. All three times have been in the evening, but only twice when it's been busy. Each time the server assisted with food recommendations as well as beer pairings. My only complaint is that once a server got over-zealous and brought an opened bottle of Brother Thelonius to a friend of mine...he had a bottle in his fridge. Some servers are better than others, but I love the concept that you can go in and have a meal coursed for you with an appetizer, main course, and dessert...all with the appropriate beer pairing.
I think what sets the Moth apart is the attention to detail and the variety of their offerings. It's very easy to either get the food or the beer right, but they nail both. Not only that, but it is rare to find a place where the beer selections change almost daily, and there is a good variety of beers I can't find at my local bottle shop. This makes it worth the drive and the experience memorable.
To give you an idea of the variety, here is a smattering of the beers I've had at the Moth: Avery Cask IPA, DFH Immort '07, DFH Burton Baton '07, Great Divide 16, The Abyss 2010, Allagash Curieux, Avery Dihos Dactylion, Cuvee des Jacobins Rouge, Allagash Confluence, and more.

Stopped by on a nice quiet afternoon, maybe 20 people in the house .. . cruised the tap chalk board (chalkboard, love that feature for a tap wall) and found only one new brew and it was the one i hoped for, Pecker Wrecker (tasty!) .. . Very upscale feel to this place, not quite pretentious but hell, the food menu is very much so.. shared 2 different pies, not labeled as POT pies but pies, and frankly, they were terrible, the chicken tasted spoiled but the lamb was decent, but muddled.. I don't see the magic of this place at all, just a yuppie bar to me, but if i am there again, i will definitely give it another go just in case,... so many beer guys love it so i do have respect for it.. just didn't gel with me this time..

Was very excited to try this place and was a bit let down. They have a great beer selection probably twenty - thirty taps and goos selection of bottles. The beers were a bit pricy but certainly not unfair. I didn't eat there but I did notice they have a very unique menu, certainly not your normal bar fare. The bartender was attentive but really didn't go out of his way to make suggestions or small talk. I don't expect a barkeep to have a conversation with me but he just seemed indifferent. The inside was very nice, but its just not my type of atmosphere. It feels more like a restaurant than a pub, and maybye a little uptight. Not a bad place to take a date though. But for my dollar I would rather go to the gingerman or the flying saucer, same caliber of beer selection and less pretentious. Some might appreciate its atmosphere just not for me. Certainly worth a try.

My wife and I visited the Moth on a Saturday afternoon. Although it is relatively small, at this time it wasn't at all crowded. The first thing we noticed was how cold it was inside. It was very warm outside, and this was probably in anticipation of the Saturday evening crowd to come. Our waiter, Matt, was attentive but was a bit pushy. Again, this wasn't because of the crowd - at the time we visited there was far more wait staff than patrons. Our waiter was knowledgeable about the food but, contrary to other reviews I had read, he wasn't knowledgeable about their beers and had nothing to offer in this regard. For example, when I inquired about the Hop Head Flight, our waiter had no idea which IPA's were included. He was able to find out though. The beer selection was good and far better than most places, although all selections were routine for Texas - nothing special our unusual for Texas. The beers were pricey; a 22 oz bottle was 3 x's retail price. We ordered the Hummas and Tapenade and the Fish & Chips. The Hummas/Tapenade was very good, and the portions were large. The Fish/Chips were average. My wife and I frequently have business in the Dallas Design District and, therefore, will visit the Moth again, most likely for lunch. But, it isn't the "go to" place we were hoping for. We definitely won't make the 20 mile trip from our home just for a very expensive beer.
