Tied with Mega-Bev as the best bottle shop in Kalamazoo. They do Twitter and Facebook alerts of new beers and do holds which is an insanely nice thing to do and creates a lot of customer loyalty. Only complaint really is that they price their singles a bit high and I wish they kept more IPAs in the fridge. I guess also, they don't carry as many imports as Tiffany's or Mega-Bev.

This is my go-to place in town. They have a great selection and get all the latest releases and post online when they are available. The only gripe I have is that when I go in, the only thing I smell is incense and then I smell like it for the next few hours. Not a huge deal cause usually in and out cause they hold stuff for me.

Gotta love a place that actually focuses on Microbrews but still has the cheap domestics. When I was in college, there wasn't a place like this in K-zoo, not like I knew anything about beer other than it made me drunk then but hey, it would've been nice to have gotten into the craft beer scene a lot earlier in life. Anyways, the guy behind the counter was great, he had some good suggestions, didn't think that someone who looked like a body builder would know anything about beer, he looked like he was more focused on what he looks like in the mirror, but I digress. He definitely knows his stuff.

Price wise, it's great that they give a discount when you make your own 6 pack, but I feel like 10% really just covers the deposits and a little extra...but still reasonably priced. Walked out with a 6 pack and it cost me 14 and change....not too bad when I get a $5 bottle in there.

Definitely worth a stop in if you are in the K-zoo area.

Stopped here randomly on a recent trip to Kalamazoo.

Selection was outstanding, including some great seasonal releases from Founders and Short's that weren't on the shelves anywhere else. All bottles are available individually in make your own six packs, which really helped me deal with the overwhelming selection.

The atmosphere was pretty good - clean, well organized, large long aisles. The service was decent - not overly friendly but nice enough when we asked them questions. Would defintiely go back here on a trip through K'Zoo.

Went here with Kzoobrew while in Kalamazoo.

Walking in the store was bustling with people on a Friday afternoon. The quality was pretty good. Lots of shelves stacked with great beers, and lots of coolers keeping beers nice and cold. The selection was nice. Lots of Short’s beers, and plenty of other Michigan brews. No one really asked if we needed help, though at the checkout the people were incredibly friendly. The prices were on par with what I would expect. There was a huge plus here in that they allow six packs.

I would definitely come here again when I am in Kalamazoo.

Walked in here based off the favorable reviews on BeerAdvocate, on a recent trip from SF to the Great Lakes region.

Atmosphere wasn’t anything special but I didn’t come in expecting attractive décor. That said, you’ll find ample cooler space, and multiple rows of beer. Exactly what I hoped to find.

The level of brews here rivals that of most of the mid to high quality bottle shops I’ve visited. You can find a range of beers across a variety of price/quality ranges with a heavy focus on the craft beer market.

Didn’t get a whole lot of help from the store while I was browsing around as the pair of workers were both busy handling other customers. That said, when I got to the register they were polite and offered additional help/made sure I found what I was looking for.

The selection of great lakes/non great lakes craft beers was impressive and expansive. Many of the breweries I’d heard of but don’t have access to in the SF Bay Area and quite a few breweries were new to me. Picked up plenty of Short’s, Arcadia, and Great Lakes, to name a few.

Overall, a place I’d recommend and would certainly return to if I visit the area again.

On the outside, it does not necessarily paint a clear picture of what is inside.. Do not judge a book by its cover! Lots and Lots of really tasty beers to choose from -- in singles, six packs and bombers.. A good representation of locals as well as some hard to finds!Shorts, shorts and more shorts along with Stoudts, Bell's [obviously], Founders, Thirsty Dog, and quite a few others. I think I walked out with a case of random beers! The guys working behind the counter was super nice and suggested following them on Facebook as they update beer arrivals and such. I think he said he ended up getting 5 cases of KBS! which disappeared within hours...Definitely will be a return stop!

Have expanded their beer selection by 30%. Carry over 400 micros/imports for singles/mixed six packs. Pricing is best in Kzoo area. Release rare and hard to finds to the shelf when they come in to the store (no hoarding/price gouging). Have a Facebook site to keep you up to date re: new product/limited release dates. Good storage practices and quick turnover. Great local beer tasting events with most Mi micros. Recent Finds: Founders KBS and Imperial Stout, Traquair 2020, Sierra Nevada 30th series. Pleasant staff. Rate Beer ratings posted on shelves.

I recently stopped by this establishment and I was pleasantly surprised. This used to be a place for the college kids to stop in and get their 24 pack of Coors as cheap as possible. Times have changed.

While you can still get a 24 pack of any of the cheapest beer you can think of, the selection of microbrews has grown immensely. They have a great selection of seasonal beers, which tend to be around a bit longer than a few other stores, and they continue to have new items to choose from.

They also have the beer rating from Rate Beer posted for nearly every beer they offer which can be handy if you encounter an unfamiliar beer or if you are just getting into microbrews.

This place is a hidden gem as of now, but I have a feeling that more people will quickly discover all this store has to offer.

Drakes is quickly becoming on of my go to shops in Kalamazoo. New releases tend to hit the shelf a day or two quicker than other stores in the area. The selection of local breweries is equal or better than the other stores in town.

The lay out is quite nice. Decent cold section and a well organized singles area. Good variety of most brands which are available in Kalamazoo. The prices are lower more often than not.

The only short coming Drakes has is imports. While they do carry a respectable amount, Tiffany's is still the go to store in the area for imported craft.

A little out of my way but worth the trip.

Despite the fact Tiffany's has a bit larger of a selection, I find their stuff sits on the shelf. The folks at DPC are wonderful getting out the news of new releases on facebook and twitter. The Short's Key Lime was released while I was on vacation. I e-mailed them and asked if they could hold a 6er for me. This afternoon I will heading down to grab my 6 pack.

Excellent staff, good prices, pretty decent selection.

My advice, go during non-peak hours for the university kiddos, it will make your life much more peaceful.
