A: orange. Thin head. Light haze.

S: grapefruit.

T: citrus. Grapefruit. A small sweet note. Malty Bread. And...more grapefruit.

M: medium carbonation. Medium-big body.

O: good IPA. Big on bittering. Grapefruit dominates. Balanced well.

22oz bottle served in pint glass. Beer pours crystal clear and golden in color, with a giant white head. Not very aromatic, maybe a little piney? Hop-forward C hop flavors dominate. Aggressive and citrusy. Sharply carbonated and not much in the way of malt flavor to balance out this highly attenuated hop monster. The result is high in flavor but not so much in drinkability. But based on the outline of Oregon on the label beind the statement "WANDERLUST" I'd guess this is a beer which is proud of it's callous West Coast IPA phenotype.

Sharply carbonated. It's like a hoppy club soda, but that adds to the refreshing quality.

Big citrus taste. Very distinctive grapefruit flavor, though not so much of the ultra-bitter pith. Some lime rind and that grapefruit soda taste. Quite aromatic in the nose, though not so much to sniff the glass. But there's that whiff of grapefruit again. Some bread dough and a fruity taste like unripe pineapple.

Color is the typical orangey amber, though a lighter shade. Plenty of white foam with some thin lacing in the big chalice.

Overall, it's very drinkable with a tangy mouthfeel and a bitter aftertaste. The citrus peel gets hold of the tongue after some sipping, but it's not unpleasant. From the 22 oz bottle.

Poured from 22oz bomber into a pint glass.

Appearance: light orangey-gold hue with minimal haze and a moderately strong effervescence. Head poured two fingers of frothy ivory foam. Darn attractive!

Smell: rather sweet malt aroma with piney, resiny and lemony hops. It's got a very Northwest feel to it.

Taste: sweet malt with plenty of citrusy, fruity and resiny hop flavor. Bitterness is quite high at the end; the overall flavor profile is pretty strong. It's good, but something about it doesn't completely suit my palate.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a good carbonation and a good creaminess for an IPA. I like it.

Overall: there's a lot of interesting flavor going on in this beer, but its sweetness and prickly bitterness don't mesh particularly well in my opinion. A more tropical (mango, pineapple) hop profile would bring this beer to a much higher level for me.

Reviewing from notes after drinking on 4/11/14. Enjoyed out of a 22 oz brown bomber with no discernible dating to indicate when it was bottled or when it's best enjoyed by. Poured into an IPA glass from Speigelau.

Appearance - Off to a great start, as my moderate pour yields a massive three finger stark white head of small bubbles that begin expanding at the top as the bubbles evaporate, leaving a rocky, uneven head and sticky lacing on the side of the glass. Beneath the head sits a murky glowing orange with dark shadows and starfruit colored highlights.

Smell - Very fruity hop characteristics burst out of the glass, with full notes of tangerine and pineapple, and even some grapefruit astringency. There is also a more subdued component of herbal and pine notes hiding beneath the aggressive fruitiness and just a hint of pale crackery malt base.

Taste - Much like the aroma, the flavor is bursting and juicy with notes of tropical and citrus fruit sitting atop a more subtle blend of herbal notes of basil and pine and a nice grain foundation that gives this one just enough body to support the great hop profiles. Tangerine juice, lemon zest, and some pineapple are the stars of the show. Pleasant grapefruit pith bitterness lingers on the palate after the liquid has proceeded to my stomach.

Mouthfeel - Medium-bodied and juicy, with moderate carbonation to give the texture some points of interest, no pun intended.

Overall, just a great IPA from Breakside. This is only the third I've had the chance to sample from them, and of the three, two were IPAs--both wonderfully quaffable. You don't hear much about Breakside on the forums around BA, but the two IPAs I've had could more than hold their own against some of the IPA heavyweights of the West Coast.

22oz bottle at 41 F poured into a large mug. I can tell there was a bottle code, but I can't tell for sure what it said. It might have been 1/18/14.

Pours slightly hazy, golden, big white head, lots of carbonation. Fades slowly, quite attractive. Smell is floral, citrusy, quite nice.

Taste is citrusy and floral. Not super bitter, some bready/straw malt characteristic.

Mouthfeel is airy. Fluffy. Overall, I'm impressed. It's good.
