Breakside’s most popular offering is this beautifully clear India Pale Ale featuring the unique character of Citra and Chinook hops. This light copper beer has huge citrus and tropical fruit aromas with hints of perfume and pine. Flavors like apricot, guava, and orange hit the tongue accompanied by a mild evergreen note. There’s just enough caramel sweetness to balance the hop flavors, but this is really a showcase for the beautiful varieties of hops grown here in the Northwest. Like all Breakside beers, this has a notably dry finish and, in true IPA form, a restrained but persistent bitterness. It’s one of the most drinkable IPAs around!

Pretty decent IPA, more of an in-between style. Not too aggressive with the hops or malts.

Pours a pretty spot on IPA hue, that straw core with light white head, decent retention fades to an average lace.

Smells mostly of mild hops, not too in your face. Some mild citrus, white pepper, and grass notes. The palate is mostly mild malts and medium astringent hops. Not as malted as Ft George Vortex, not as aggressive as most PDX IPAs. Really well balanced IPA meant more as a good pub friendly beverage.

Had it on tap at the Brewpub. Was a little surprised when it won the Gold Medal. It's fairly well balanced, but a little too much on the dry/piney/bitter side for me. Wasn't a go to IPA for me before and probably still isn't, but is a good representation of the style.

22oz bomber for $5.99. I only heard about this beer due to its recent GABF gold medal and I was skeptical. I must say I was pleasantly surprised. Nice orange color, good head. Aroma was fruity, piney, hoppy. The flavor was seriously hoppy, grapefruit, citrus, touch of hop cones mixed with pine cones. I think I have returned for three or four more bottles since the first one, great IPA.

Served on tap at the Breakside Brewpub.
Appearance cloudy clearly unfiltered. Citrus notes in the aroma.
Taste? Nothing refined about this beer. An attack on the senses. Grapefruit that sucks the cheeks into the mouth. As if they infused the beer with grapefruit rind.
Loved it.
Have to tick down a notch on mouthfeel though. Just doesn't linger well.
All in all a fun experience. I'm glad I had a chance to tic this one off.

Bomber served fresh and cold into a shaker pint glass.

Breakside's India pale ale (feel good flagship) is a pale yellow orange with great clarity. The head is thick and has good retention and great lacing.

Aroma is fantastic with tons of grapefruit citrus. Maybe a little one dimensional but it's a good dimension to go with for an IPA.

Flavor also has a powerful punch of citrus. It starts off a little sweet but then you get a big kick of hop bitterness. It's almost a session DIPA if there was such a thing.

Mouthfeel is medium to light in body and nicely carbonated. If anything it could be a little more full.

Overall an excellent IPA. It's exciting to see a small northwest brewery bringing their beers to colorado. I wish them well.

This has been my favorite Oregon single IPA since I first had it two years ago. I have not had many IPAs of any kind that are better. Enjoy!

Poured a finger of head on a clearer medium straw colored body.
The aroma is bright lemon, grapefruit and orange. A wonderful combination.
The taste is moderate to strong bitterness of grapefruit. It's balanced nicely with the malt.
The texture is crisp with moderate carbonation.
A really nice IPA.

650 mL bottle poured into a tumbler.

Appearance - Hazy deep orange. Nice white head with good retention.

Smell - Orange hoppiness. A little grassy. Doughy pale malts. Very nice.

Taste - Grapefruit much stronger. It's orangey up front, but becomes very grapefruity. Toasty malt. A little sweet, but less doughy than the nose.

Mouthfeel - Medium body and medium carbonation. Moderate bitterness.

Overall - A very nice IPA. Simple and flavorful.
