No BOD. Pours a light amber with a very slight red hue. Nice head with normal retention and very good lacing. Light nose of raspberry over something that is unpleasant and medicinal - like old corn stored in isopropyl alcohol. Light bodied, normal carbonation. The flavor profile is unpleasant. It tastes like a very poorly compounded raspberry medicine. As the raspberry fades, you are left with only the terrible medicinal flavor. I like raspberry ales, but this one is terrible. Try Thirsty Dog's Raspberry Ale and avoid this.

New Planet Raspberry Ale has a thin, white head, a mostly clear, amber appearance, which hazes up with a powdery cloud, following the "swish & pour". Aroma is of raspberries and grassy grain. Taste is of those elements, with a sorghum syrupy sweetness and no bitterness. Mouthfeel is light and a bit slick, and New Planet Raspberry Ale finishes crisp and decently refreshing. I was surprised.

12oz bottle, somehow this brew appears in multiple instances around here - big fucking surprise!

This beer pours a clear, medium bronzed amber colour, with one skinny-ass finger of wanly puffy, somewhat foamy, and mostly fizzy off-white head, which leaves a few minor streaks of aspirant lace around the glass as things surprisingly take a long time to fade away.

It smells of raspberry puree mixed with astringent, hard to really love sorghum malt (the sort that one might ask afterwards about, in the sense of WTF?), with a touch of medicinal children's 'flavouring' tacked on, and very little else. The taste is acrid, rather unpleasant gritty and grainy measures (not the sort that we gluteneers are all that accustomed to), as that sour sorghum thing takes the reins, to the detriment of the meek dark fruitiness as represented by the raspberry guest 'star', with some stupidly slavish dark sugary notes (the rice, need I say more), and maybe a touch of yeastiness that should have damned well chosen better.

The carbonation is pretty much blown out by the time I got to this juncture, the body on the pithy, low side of yer typical middleweight, and clammy beyond belief when it comes time for the smoothness reckoning. It finishes sweet, but not of any ilk that one might want to further entertain.

Yup, just as I envisioned, when this freebie dropped into my lap a short while ago - anything made with sorghum and 'brown sugar extract' is not to be trusted with the finer points of one's palate, or even the sanctity of your basement bathroom sink. Dump this shit right into the alley storm drain.

I had a colleague who is gluten-free and I told her that I would keep my eye out for G-F beer options and report back to her on my findings. In the interim, I retired from that job and I still have the beers awaiting review. I have not felt perfect these last couple of days, so I thought that I would try something(s) fairly innocuous.

From the bottle: "Naturally Balanced"; "Gluten Free"; "Ale Made From Sorghum and Corn Extract"; "For every New Planet beer you enjoy, a portion of the proceeds is donated to help our planet."

When I reviewed this beer's predecessor, 3R Raspberry Ale, I was not terribly happy with it. I am curious to see how I feel about this new iteration.

I Pop!ped the cap with less trepidation than before, but the Blonde Ale had rendered me skittish. A moderately aggro pour came jumping up at me like a panther in the darkness, so I had to back off and all things to settle. The three-plus fingers of foamy, fizzy, rocky head had a pinkish cast. Color had a faintly pinkish golden cast (SRM = N/A). Nose reminded me of a Raspberry Tootsie Roll Pop! No kidding, and I was using a fresh glass, separate from the chocolaty Brown Ale. Raspberry with a slight tinge of chocolate. Mouthfeel was thin, but fizzy, more like raspberry-flavored seltzer. Taste had the typical tartness associated with adding raspberries to beer and/or wine, but this was actually tasty. I do not know what mood I was in when I reviewed its previous, retired iteration, but this was decent. Finish was slightly tart, but one of the more drinkable gluten-free beers that I have tried. I set aside some of the chocolaty Brown Ale and in combination, it really was like a Raspberry Tootsie Roll Pop! Perhaps that is the answer - drink G-F beers as blends.

Awful. Smells and tastes like cough syrup flavored water.
