Hazy orangish amber color. This off-white head does not stay long, but rings up nicely.

This beer smells a bit sour. There is a malt presence and maybe some cheesy hops. Not really extremely pleasant in the nose. Tastes has some more sweetness and some spicy citrus hops. It's got a bitter finish.

It's got a nice body and mouthfeel, but just comes across as being off.

Appearance – This poured a beautiful, thick, dingy orangeish-brown with a modest but staying head.

Smell – The Chinook comes out in force at the nose, definitely dry-hopped, with a small but noticeable malt base.

Taste – The Chinook is a little heavy, so if you like the hop you’ll love this beer but if not you might say it lacks diversity. The malts are second-rate players but present and accounted for.

Mouthfeel – This is big for the style, larger than medium-bodied, with some stiff but withstandable drying.

Drinkability – This one will put hair on your chest. It’s incredibly smooth all things considered. (631 characters)

From BeerAdvocate Magazine #76 (May 2013):

A good IPA, boasts 103.1 IBUs ... pretty insane and tongue scraping from sip to sip. A true hophead’s brew that perhaps is looking for a bit of pain as it slowly tries to wreck the palate.

STYLE: American IPA
ABV: 6.2%

LOOK: Brassy hue, sudsy topping

SMELL: Citrus zest, minty, slightly dank, mild tobacco, earthy, stone fruit

TASTE: Very smooth, creamy, very aggressive hoppiness, solid bitterness, leafy, pipe tobacco, grassy (503 characters)

Just opened one of these.
Drinking straight from the bottle.
ABV says 7.1%

Smell is very pungent, the chinook hops are very extreme and citrusy.

First sip is extremely overwhelming.
The bitterness might be too much on this one.

As the bottle warmed up, the floral aroma grew on me.

By the last sip this beer was much more pleasant.

If you like a really hoppy beer, this one will surprise you.

Very bitter, but worth it. (425 characters)

Pours a hazy apricort like clouded orange with a nice thicket of white head, speckled scattered lacing. Aroma has a nice deep tropical/citrus fruit note with hints of earthy pine. Flavor nice assertive bitterness with citrus/pine vying for attention. Strong full frontal onslaught of bitterness, sticks around between sips. No cloying booze or sweetness, a bit unbalanced toward the hops (I'm pretty sure that's the intent here with the label stating they "nookied" the beer four times during the boil and "dry nookied" it as well. Tropical fruit/apricot fruitiness is found in here as well, tha works with the big hop additions. Mouthfeel is a bit resinous, medium bodied easy going carbonation. The last bottle I tried to review had some definite carbonation issues so I chose not to pen a review. Since then it looks like they worked out the kinks with their bottling line. Drinkability overall is for the true hop head, but this will make most newbies turn and run. Pittsburgh has a couple solid IPAs including East End's Big Hop, Fathead's Headhunter, and Rivertowne's Old Wylie. (1,084 characters)
