A - Dark orange. Leaves some lacing. Retains a small head. Pretty frothy with big bubbles.

S - Little grapefruit and citrus. Not a very pungent smell.

T - Same as the smell. Some bitterness with some grapefruit and citrus notes. Nothing special here.

M - Pretty light mouthfeel. No alcohol presence.

O - Slightly above average IPA. Wouldn't get another one. Probably not bad as a session beer. Pretty refreshing and crisp, which is its main redeeming quality.

Appearance – This poured a beautiful, thick, dingy orangeish-brown with a modest but staying head.

Smell – The Chinook comes out in force at the nose, definitely dry-hopped, with a small but noticeable malt base.

Taste – The Chinook is a little heavy, so if you like the hop you’ll love this beer but if not you might say it lacks diversity. The malts are second-rate players but present and accounted for.

Mouthfeel – This is big for the style, larger than medium-bodied, with some stiff but withstandable drying.

Drinkability – This one will put hair on your chest. It’s incredibly smooth all things considered.

Pours a hazy apricort like clouded orange with a nice thicket of white head, speckled scattered lacing. Aroma has a nice deep tropical/citrus fruit note with hints of earthy pine. Flavor nice assertive bitterness with citrus/pine vying for attention. Strong full frontal onslaught of bitterness, sticks around between sips. No cloying booze or sweetness, a bit unbalanced toward the hops (I'm pretty sure that's the intent here with the label stating they "nookied" the beer four times during the boil and "dry nookied" it as well. Tropical fruit/apricot fruitiness is found in here as well, tha works with the big hop additions. Mouthfeel is a bit resinous, medium bodied easy going carbonation. The last bottle I tried to review had some definite carbonation issues so I chose not to pen a review. Since then it looks like they worked out the kinks with their bottling line. Drinkability overall is for the true hop head, but this will make most newbies turn and run. Pittsburgh has a couple solid IPAs including East End's Big Hop, Fathead's Headhunter, and Rivertowne's Old Wylie.

*review from notes on 8/28/10*

Fairly aggressive pour into my pint glass, nice golden orange body with atleast an inch of white head leaving lots of lacing. Lots of Chinook hops in the nose, great floral smell along with some bitter citrus notes. I'm getting nothing but hops upfront, mainly grapefruit, some pine - much more citrusy than the floral aromas led me to believe. This IPA tastes extremely fresh, a great balance of bitter sweetness. Medium bodied and nice carbonation in the mouth. I hope to see more of this beer make it into my neck of the woods, a great in-state IPA I'd love to have again!
