Served on tap in a pint glass

Appearance – The beer is served a very hazy orange amber color with a one finger white head. The head has good retention, slowly fading to leave a moderate level of lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma was big of a citrus grapefruit hop mixed with some sweeter tropical and lighter fruit flavors. The tropical fruits were a mix of tangerine, papaya and mango with the lighter fruits being more of a peach and apricot aroma. A light pine and sugary aroma are mixed with these producing an overall fruity and hoppy smell.

Taste – The taste begins with a sweeter fruit flavor of tangerine mixed with a bit of lightly roasted malt flavor. A grapefruit hop flavor is present right up front. It starts out of moderate strength and gets stronger as the flavors advance. Tropical fruit flavors begin coming to the tongue more toward the middle of the taste. These however are mostly overshadowed by the hop flavors due to the grapefruit getting stronger as well as an arrival of an earthy and pine hop taste more toward the end. In the end a very grapefruit hop and moderately fruity (but lighter the hop flavor) is left to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the average to slightly thinner side for a IPA of its 6.2% abv with a carbonation level that is rather average. Fairly decent overall for the big hoppy and fruit flavors of the brew all while keeping it nice and easy drinking.

Overall – A fairly citrus hoppy but still pretty easy drinking IPA. Well worth a try.

Light amber hazy color

Wonderfuly bright, citrus, grapefruit aroma....begs the first sip

Will appeal to "hopheads"....heavy on IBU's...puckering...lingering "aspirin" aftertaste

Pretty good mouthfeel and head retention....nice legs

Pretty nice IPA...like most IPA's, balance this one out against some spicy wings

Poured into a Founders snifter on 3/11/13

Best by Aug 2013
Lot 304

Dark honey and copper hues with some mild haziness. It didn't pour much of a head; only about a 1/8th inch. Thin, soapy retention with some drip of tightly speckled lace.

The hop aroma is fairly different; usual suspects with a bit of uniqueness. Pine and oily grapefruit with candied notions and a hints of lemon soap and herbs. Sugar beet sweetness and biscuit.

Tasting the beer for the first time makes the aroma become displeasing thereafter.

Speaking of first tastes, how about a weird mash up of pine/herbal hops, bready malt and something akin to grapefruit cough syrup (if there is such a thing; if there isn't, it needs to stay that way because this beverage is all the world needs of such a peculiarly bad flavor). It's harsh, almost fusel-like.

The body is medium with a rolling, highly granular and gritty feel underneath the oily slickness. Moderate carbonation. The finish is dry and littered with bitter aspirin.

The bitterness is so bad the finish exhibits characteristics of oxidation and burnt charcoal although neither are an actual concern with this beer.

The saddest thing about this is that is seemly like a well-constructed bad beer. Get rid of the damn aspirin bitterness. What a waste of good hops.

Poured from a bottle. Very light head that did not linger long.
I love the coppery color but just a bit hazy .
The initial flowery/hoppy smell is nice but it is quickly overtaken by a sour smell that is not so good.
The initial taste is light almost sweet followed by the hops bitterness. A second slightly different hops supplies the finish typical of a hoppy brew. I get a slight alcohol taste at the end.
The mouthfeel is light with carbonation that is more evident on the sides and back of the tongue. The carbonation seems more evident once it hits my stomach.
Overall a pretty good representation of an IPA, plus you gotta love the name Chinookie.

The Full Pints were new this week at Save On, and I bought two. After the other incredible beers I had earlier, this is more like more like home brew.

The head is OK and there is some lace. The color is about right. The aroma is where it started downhill. There is a lot of AIPA hoppiness but there is a funky smell too.

The taste has a bit of dirty off color taste too. Metallic and just wrong. The aftertaste is a little better.

Overall, this is not a very good AIPA, but it's not horrible either.
