In honor of the brave men who stood up to the tax collector we have created Rye Rebellion, an Imperial Stout brewed with four different types of rye and aged in rye whiskey barrels.

12 oz.

Pours jet black, totally opaque, fine coffee-and-cream head dissipates slowly to a film.

Smells of toasted buttered bread, caramel, a hint of bourbon and mild roasted coffee.

Tastes of rich caramel and buttered toast malts with notable bourbon flavoring and some whispers of molasses sweetness.

Full viscous body with a sting of carbonation on the tongue. Warms a bit going down.

Absolutely stellar imperial stout, very rich which makes it a sipper, but the flavor and body are superb. Would definitely have this again. And again. (544 characters)

the aromas are vanilla, marshmallow, chocolate, a little alcohol burning the nostril hairs. the flavor is balanced mostly. it comes off pretty sweet at first mimicking the aroma but finishes dry and spicy. the whiskey lingers quite a bit, sort of a cheap whiskey taste to it but thankfully it is pretty mild (309 characters)

Appearance: Black with no light coming through when put up to the light. Nice one finger brown head

Smell: A ton of rye spice, slight roasted malt presence, and caramel sweetness

Taste: Rye and roasted malts up front with a sweet caramel finish. Maybe a hint of oak, but no whiskey characteristics whatsoever

Mouthfeel: Very, very thin body for this style. The thinnest imperial stout that i recall in fact. It also isnt all that smooth, sort of unrefined and gritty. If theres a down side to this beer, the mouthfeel would be it

Overall: i didnt have the highest of hopes, but i still find this a bit of a disappointment. The mouthfeel alone makes me feel like im drinking roasty rye water. I also wish it would be more full flavored and more robust and match the 11% abv. The aftertaste also falls off rather quickly. I couldnt really savor this one. Another thing is that there is little to no whiskey presence. I forgot it was even BBA. All in all its still fairly tasty and I'm happy to call this a local brew, but its not something ill buy again to revisit. Ill cellar the other three bottles and see what happens (1,124 characters)

Pours jet black with a thin brown head. Nice brown collar throughout. Aroma is lots of chocolate, some coffee, lots of earthiness, and a little scent of bourbon. Taste has a really nice earthy chocolate tone. The rye/bourbon also comes through pretty well. Tons of malt. Tons of malt. Yes, it needed repeating. Mouthfeel is wonderfully creamy. (343 characters)

Thanks to Shane for this one!

A: Pours deep black with a small tan head on top that forms nicely, but reduces quickly to a ring on top. Solid lacing all around the glass.

S: Some rye whiskey up front with tons of chocolate underneath. Not much else going on, faint brown sugar.

T: More of the whiskey, some spicy rye, chocolate, more roast on the flavor than on the aroma. The whiskey lingers on the finish as does a bit of rye.

M: Medium to full bodied with moderate carbonation. Not boozy, but warm as it goes down.

O: Pretty good beer, good fir sipping over the course of an evening. (595 characters)

A: Very dark in color soft carbonation

S: Aged in rye whiskey barrels but it smells like a good stout on the nose with roasted coffee and chocolate then some vanilla smells

T: smooth rich chocolate with some liquor taste I really would have guessed bourbon very smooth

M: Very smooth and surprisingly creamy for a barrel aged beers just an excellent mouthfeel

O : fairly impressed here, it's got a very smooth mouthfeel no heat the barrel is right there but not in your face it's an astonishingly well rounded BA stout (524 characters)
