In honor of the brave men who stood up to the tax collector we have created Rye Rebellion, an Imperial Stout brewed with four different types of rye and aged in rye whiskey barrels.

Draft at Barcade. Silky smooth. Ebony pour with small creamy head. Aroma is roasty and sweet. Taste brings more soft sweetness, consistency is incredible . Hints of bitterness, chocolate. No sign of the ABV. Really wonderful.

Dull used motor oil black with a short fuzzy tan head.
Taste is chocolatey, but also Brillo pad metallic.
The body is cola-like, but contrastingly, the barrel brings a substantial woodiness, which is quite intensely drying in the finish.

2oz bottle into tulip
2018 vintage
Pours dark black with thin brown head
Aroma is typical rye aged beer, with vanilla and rye whiskey notes coming through
Taste differs quite significantly as there is an intense rye flavor, followed by a more toned-down whiskey and vanilla
The feel also differs from a typical imperial stout, as the rye gives it a dryness not usually associated with the style
Overall this is quite the beer, and I really enjoyed, the one slight knock is the toned down barrel aged notes

Pours very dark, minimal head. Poured in a mini pint, so I couldn't get a good whiff. Taste is chocolate malt, vanilla, bourbon barrel, strong coffee finish. Light carbonation. Overall an ok BBA imperial stout, not my favorite, but glad I found it at a bar late night in PGH.

In the process of familiarizing myself with the small breweries of Western Pennsylvania, I have taken note of Full Pint and been pleased to see the business prosper. I first saw this offering on the draft list of a country inn in Harmony, PA and was disappointed to learn that the keg had run out. Then I saw it again, this time on the list at my favorite local pub. I included it in my order of a beer flight and liked it enough to leave with a growler of it.
On my next trip to the beer distributor I favor because its square footage supports the best selection I can find anywhere near my home, I was pleased to find it available in cases of 12-ounce bottles. I purchased a case, hoping for the best, because sometimes a bottled beer doesn't quite measure up to how it tastes from the keg.
So you can imagine my delight when I got home from work late the next night, after it was properly chilled, and opened the first bottle to discover that it wasn't as good as from the keg ... it was better!
Some stouts are too sweet. Some are too bitter. This one, Goldilocks, is just right. The blend of flavors - rye whiskey, coffee, chocolate, barley malt, and bitter hops - is perfect. The color is lovely, and the drinking experience, from nose through first impression to lingering aftertaste makes this a completely enjoyable offering from Full Pint. Bravo!

A couple of/few weeks ago was the occasion of my Hoppy New Full Pint Sunday (Week 704)! I am continuing the eradication of The Bottle Backlog at Chez Woody & this surfaced after the fact. I am buying fewer & fewer bottles anyway so the end is coming into view.
From the Bottle: "A Hand Made Brew with Revolutionary Taste"; "Imperial Stout Aged in Rye Whiskey Barrels"; "Western PA has a rebellious past regarding whiskey, especially rye whiskey. In honor of the brave men who stood up to the tax collector we have created Rye Rebellion, an Imperial Stout brewed with four different types of rye and aged in rye whiskey barrels."; "Beer Nerd Stats: Malts: Pils, Crystal, Aromatic, Roasted, Rye, Crystal Rye, Flaked Rye, Crystal Rye Hops: Columbus, Tettnang OG: 22.1 IBU 55 Alc. by Vol. 11%".
I was really anxious to Pop! the cap on this one since I have a particular affinity for Rye Whiskey. I am not big on Scotch or Bourbon, but I will get rebellious for Rye! I went with a C-Line pour that began with a pseudo-cascade before settling into two-plus fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, deep-brown head with fantastic retention that left a load of lacing in its wake. Color was solidly Black/Opaque (SRM = 44), allowing ZERO light penetration. Nose was not only fudgy and chocolaty, but the rye malts gave it a cool, peppery mintiness! 8=O Mmm. Mouthfeel was thick, full and creamy, like a dollop had been scooped onto my tongue. The taste was rich and chocolaty, but it was also spicy, minty & extremely drinkable. Dangerously drinkable. Phew! The alcohol was really well hidden, plus there were no off flavors or anything to give me pause, making it go down quickly. Wow! Finish had a semi-sweet bitterness, so I am going to call it semi-dry, but YMMV. Me? I'm going to keep on drinking.

-Aged in Rye whiskey barrels. 11%.
A: The darkest of pours is inky black and viscose from the bottle as it slurps into the vessel. A small dark khaki head is 1/4 inch is fairly strong for a large volume abv% beer. Small whispy laces streak down the walls, while a soft presence of golden-micro beads make their way to the surface.
S: Roasted barley with some burnt malt sugar sweetness. Good presence of the rye, adding very peppery and spicy notes of peppercorns. There is a deep sense of roasted chocolate and smoky wood flavors, with soft gentle ash like perception. Vanilla and mocha are a natural pairing, with some coffee and roasted flowery hop flowerys that are bitter.
T: Spicy dark fruitiness of plums add to the wide spectrum of flavors that are very well paired and balanced together with a good level of aromatic strength. The flavor was roasted chocolate and roasted barley, along with some mineral ash of a viscose and thick nature. Coffee and roasted beans along with a soft touch of scorched woodiness and charcoal add to the depth and bitterness. Burnt and acrid feel gives a deep sense to the bitterness and bite from the spicy rye barrel of peppercorns. The malting is thick and slurry like, with some burnt cake sweetness, anise and whiskey like alcohol that lingers long post-swallow with a pleasant effect.
M: Thick and viscose mouthful is sticky and full, warming of roasted bitterness on the tongue. Softly carbonated, spicing of peppercorns and whiskey alcohol tones against the inner cheeks.
O: A huge first and good impression. Thick and viscose roasted chocolate malts and roasted barley add smokey charcoal and ash like tones that are in your face from the start. The rye influence is heavy, adding a complimentary spiciness, with a deep body weight making for a slow sipper. Let it warm for a more intense experience. Alcohol is very well manageable. Outstanding.

Sampling a cellar temp 12 oz bottle poured into my snifter.
The beer pours a rich cocoa brown color with creamy tan head of 1 cm that fades quickly to a sturdy edge layer and one large island in the center of my glass.
The aroma is dark malt with brown sugar and some bourbon notes mixing. There is also dark chocolate and a little spicy rye, but not really boozy or any hops at this point.
The first sip reveals a smooth textured medium bodied beer with fine tingly carbonation. Pretty easy to drink, the beer does leave a bit of a sticky coating on my palate.
I get similar flavors to what the nose predicts with dark malt and brown sugar, and dark chocolate mixing together. This moves to a bit of bourbon note and some vanilla that lingers through the finish.
The alcohol is fairly well hidden with no warmth but I do sort of feel it through the end of the bottle.
Nice easy drinking sort of sweet stout with a good mix of flavors.
Id drink it again as I enjoy it, but I wouldnt chase it around to find a bottle.
