great beer selection at piper's pub, this was on-cask over the weekend.
The head is a frothy web leaving a spongey wall of lace all over the glass. Very cool. It's darker than most pale ales, kind of a clear mahogany. Some red-auburn.
The nose is tame. Sweet malts and some earthiness.
More earthiness and caramel malts in the taste. very smooth. nice bitterness. hopped well: subtle but flavorful.
Finish is awesome. A clean, crisp bitterness hangs around for some time. Very tasty.
Overall this is very good mild beer and i'd like to have it again. it's the kind of beer you could drink and watch a game with.

Poured from a 12-ounce bottle into a pint-sized mason jar with a handle.
Color is appealing enough; sort of a deep gold/light amber. Carbonation is active and fizzy, the head bubbles down to a coating within a minute or two. Thin lacing, kind of spotty.
I wasn't too fond of the sediment at the bottom...it was visible in the unopened bottle and also at the bottom of my glass. Subtract a "visual appeal" point for that.
I thought the smell was quite nice, although muted. Fresh and hoppy citrus, with light caramel malts. Just a hint of pine, and some earthy grass. Great aroma overall, just not very potent.
The taste of Hobnobber is right on par with the aroma, although a bit more pronounced. Tangy, citrusy hop flavor; reminded me immediately of grapefruit juice. Malt flavor is there, but it's kind of secondary. Also got some flavor of damp hay/grass, and a (very) little bit of yeast.
Smooth mouthfeel, combined with the fairly active carbonation, give Hobnobber a nice crispness.
Overall, a pretty good session/adjunct IPA. I'd buy it again...but not if I could get my hands on Founders All-Day instead.

Appearance: Pours a slightly hazy goldenstraw with an impressive head that leaves a web of lace
Smell: Pilsner malts with a hint of grapefruit
Taste: A very clean, bready malt bill opens the flavor parade with the hops developing in the middle; while there is some grapefruit from the citra, it is not overly pronounced and fades a bit in the finish, which is rather dry
Mouthfeel: Light to medium body with moderate carbonation
Overall: Decent enough for a session IPA but I have had others whose hop profile I prefer to this
