Appearance: Arrives with a slightly hazy honey color with an impressive head; nice retention and lacing

Smell: Grapefruity, with a slightly floral aspect; slightly bready

Taste: A little bit of bread and then we are off to hop land, with grapefruit and floral hop elements leading the way; nice, floral/bitter finish with a touch of sweetness

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall: One of the better IPAs brewed in NC - this is an up and coming brewery that bears watching

A passive pour still yields close to half a glass full of eggshell to cream white foam, very airy and light but the retention is pretty admirable and the lacing is thick and gluey as well. There’s a filmy dullness to the liquid, more darker orange than red or brown, curious lack of visible bubbles given the size of the head, basic. The nose has a herbal, earthy base but it’s mainly grapefruit, pine, flowers and peach, apricot, gets a lot maltier as it warms. Full-bodied, soft mouth feel from the carbonation, lessens the innate bitterness of the mouth entry. More earthy and loamy than herbaceous, any of this short lived due to the strength of the mocha, cocoa notes. Decent amount of sweetness in the tangerine, mandarin orange, white grapefruit citrus, a big overall factor. Texture turns syrupy after repeated sips, honeyed too. Pepper, scone and bread crusts, does not indulge in over sweetness nor “bigger is better” bombast. The pineapple, apricot, yellow apple fruit stays present and consistent. It’s easy to see how some could find this “boring” but it’s really just keeping it simple for simplicity’s sake. Too thick to be sessionable, otherwise you could pound these back with ease.

More malty than expected, though this bottle was at least a few months old. Nice balance of bittering and flavoring hops, but I would've probably preferred more diversity in the flavoring hop arena. Nice citrus notes, somewhat muted, with hints of resin.

Poured into a Dogfish Spiegelau glass. No freshness date.

A- Pours a medium amber color with a full inch of off-white head that retains well before eventually dropping to a thick ring around the edge of the glass and various thicknesses of surface foam. On its way down, there's some nice topographic foam bumps. At one point, a cavern is formed which I've yet to see in any other beer. Very cool. Craggy puffs of lacing. This may be the most interesting head I've ever seen on a beer.

S- Bright tangy citrus hop aroma that's a bit effervescent and has notes of green apple to go with it.

T- Taste follows suit but there's an initial alcohol bite that's unpleasant. Bitterness is moderate and the hops add a bit of character but could use some more flavor to go with the bite. After a while, I find that the aroma was a bit misleading and the the flavor ends up being one-dimensional with just a grassy hop bite prevailing over the rest of the flavors. Maybe some more malt presence would've helped there.

M- Sharp and bitey from the hops and alcohol. Medium carbonation and a lightish body.

O- Not a bad beer but it could use some fine tuning for sure. Too bad the rest of the beer wasn't as entertaining as the appearance was.

Thanks to n2185 for the bottle. Tasted 24 January 2014.

Pours 98% clear, bright orange. One finger of off-white head, okay retention, really nice lacing.

Smell is bright citrus and juicy fruits. Deliciously sweet. Peaches and oranges with a touch of citrus bite. Excellent.

Taste is clean and nice, if a little one-dimensional. Moderately bitter, well-balanced. Pretty good, actually.

Feel is really good. Medium-bodied, with fantastic carbonation. Tingly, just the right level, and lasting with a slight rise-fall.

A delicious IPA. Fruity and balanced, with hop aromatics and bitterness right where I like it. Yum. This is one where I'm happy there's another half-bottle waiting for me.

Pours into an imperial pint glass a lighter golden with just a slight tinge of orange, thin but well sustained white head atop that leaves one full ring of lace as it settles into a frothy mass.A good shot of grapefruit in the nose along with some toasted grain, the hops are fresh smelling and really jump out at ya.Grapefruit rind at the onset of the palate along with lighter leafiness, some sweet caramel/biscuit malt comes into play with a lightly toasted crisp finish. To me this like an old school left coast IPA with a big shot of grapefruit-like hops and good malty sweetness underneath, damn good.

Thanks to my best man, Chris, for bringing me back the bottle from North Carolina!

Lovely golden color with a very foamy head.

Hoppy aroma with notes of grape.

Nice hop flavors. Citrus. Bitter, but not crazy so. There's a good amount of malt flavor for balance.

Good body.

Overall a very nice IPA.

A: Pours a lightly hazy deep golden apricot to copper in color with light to moderate amounts of active visible carbonation rising slowly from the bottom of the glass and amber + golden yellow highlights. The beer has a finger tall sudsy light beige head that slowly reduces to a medium sized patch of thick film and a very thin film covering the remainder of the surface of the beer along with a thick ring at the edges of the glass. Significant amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate to strong aromas of citrus/grapefruit hops over the top of lighter aromas of caramel malts, pine hops, and even lighter floral hops.

T: Upfront there is a light flavors of grainy malts with just a touch of caramel sweetness. That is followed by moderate flavors of citrus/grapefruit and floral hops as well as a touch of pine hops. Light amounts of bitterness which fades quickly.

M: Just shy of medium bodied with slightly heavier than moderate amounts of carbonation. Crisp. Hints of dryness in the finish.

O: This is a very easy to drink and enjoyable brew - I could easily have a couple of these and would be happy. Not quite as intense as some other IPAs but it does have a really nice flavor/aroma.
