On tap at The Glendale Tap in Glendale, CA.

Described as a collaboration with Strange Brewing Company. This is a blend of Big Bad Baptist and cherry lambic from Strange Brewing Company.

Pours a clear super dark reddish-brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Foamy streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, coffee, cocoa, and sour cherry aromas. Taste is much the same with cocoa, coffee, and cherry flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of roasty bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a very good beer that is a great mix of cherry and coffee qualities that come through especially well in the taste.

Pours dark brown with a pinkish translucency and a big mocha head. Aroma is bold and roasty with some nice espresso beans and cocoa paired cut throughout with some tart fruitiness. Flavor offers some tart fruitiness to go along with some roastiness of some cocoa and a touch of coffee. Medium bodied to fuller mouthfeel. Overall, this probably shouldn't work but it definitely does. Still I couldn't help but think I'd rather just be drinking some Big Bad Baptist on its own.

On tap at World of Beer Colorado Blvd. I love Big Bad Baptist so I ordered this despite my dislike for Strange Brewing and their Cherry Kriek. Typical stout appearance, pitch black, minimal head. Aroma was heavy coffee and all Big Bad Baptist. Flavor was interesting, I got the chocolate and then sweet cherries and coffee. It was a little too sweet for me but still quite interesting.

a 60/40 (ish) blend of kriek from strange brewing and big bad baptist from epic. was skeptical about this one, but its awfully good. the pour is murky dark red, lots of color from the kriek showing through, but the head is still rich and tan like that from the baptist. the nose on this is interesting, tart cherries fade into bitter coffee and dark chocolate. the dark malt of the baptist gives the cherries some needed meat, and the bitterness also tempers any sweetness from the kriek. rich layers of fruit and chocolate go back and forth like a good dessert. the alcohol is subtle here, and the bitterness gets the final say. coffee is subtle here too, but its there giving an earthy darkness to the whole thing. carbonation is good and the body is a lot lighter than the straight up baptist, which lends to drinkability. a glass or two of this is enough, overwhelmingly flavorful i think, a very cool combination of brewing talents and flavors here, and it really does work. on tap at epic now, definitely worth trying.
