American Pale Ale (APA) |  5.80% ABV

Availability: Year-round

Notes/Commercial Description:
Made with classic Pacific Northwest Cascade, Centennial, Mt. Hood in the boil and dry hopped with more Cascade hops. Cascade aroma dominates the nose, so be sure to sniff it like a wine snob. Plenty of ultra premium Maris Otter malt and three specialty malts give the beer a nice smooth sailing biscuit like aroma and body, some sweetness, well balanced against 5.8% alcohol by volume.

Bomber received as an extra from kagent777, thanks a bunch!

A- Orange-amber in color with a respectable head. Decent lacing and retention.

S- Very hoppy in aroma, with citrus and floral notes dominating. A little bready malt in the background as well.

T- Nice hoppiness in the taste as well, with a bitter citrus component dominating and some nice maltiness as a complement.

M/D- Good mouthfeel and nice carbonation. Goes down very easily, could easily have a few.

A basic, no-frills APA. Very well-executed.

A--Pours kind of a milky orange with a foamy head that settles into a light haze and leaves decent lacing around the glass.

S--Pine if the first thing that hits my nose, along with a bit of citrus. Not overly complex in the nose.

T--As in the smell, Pine is the thing that comes to me right off. The different malts follow that, and it resolves it into a well balanced bitter finish. Citrus pops up in the aftertaste for me.

M--Medium bodied. Lots of good carbonation making for a very refreshing drink. I could definitely have a few of these in a row.

O--Definitely one of the better pale ale's that I've had. I probably like Sierra Nevada's just a tiny bit better, but as I said, this one givers me more of pine taste/smell than some other pales, so it can definitely provide a nice change of pace. 22 oz bomber poured into a pint glass, Part of Epic's Classic Series.

Pours a murky dark orange with a foamy orange-tan head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Foamy patches of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Small chunks of sediment are seen floating around in the beer after the pour. Smell is of malt, earth, citrus zest, and slight herbal hop aromas. Taste is much the same with citrus zest and earth flavors on the finish. There is a medium amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is an above average beer that is drinkable but the hop qualities are slightly better in the aroma in my opinion.

Clear amber colored beer nearing the color red. Small white colored head doesn't stick around.

Smells fairly hoppy for a pale ale with a strong cedar wood scent. Malt syrup and pine but also fair grapefruit aroma. Some sandal wood and tea scents, but not strongly.

Starts out dryish with a woody after taste. Good solid hop bite.Flavors of cedar plank and pine with strong tea. Bitterness is in the top 15% for the style, stronger than a lot of AIPAs.

Mouthfeel is good.

Overall just an OK pale ale.

Although purchased recently in Michigan, unfortunately I can't tell how old this bottle is - so my "meh" impressions may be due more to its age than its true quality?

Pours a reasonably attractive golden edged amber, respectably cloudy with sediment at the end of the bottle. It has a decent cream coloured head with moderate retention and some light lacing. Aroma is sweet and of oxidized, faded hops - no sign of the fresh citrus I expected - which is a clear indication of age, despite there being no sign of bottling or brewing date on the bottle (that I can see). The taste has a decent bitterness, despite the caramelized malt forward body - any age is better hidden. Or if this a fresh bottle, it is definitely not displaying a wide hop portfolio.

Would like to re-visit a known fresh bottle or pint...

Poured this at a good temperature with a colossal, cream-colored, foamy, frothy, fluffy head that lasts forever and loads of sticky lace. Color is a slightly hazy, medium amber with lots of bubble trails of many sizes. Aroma is fairly simple and fresh - Cascade hops and malt, with a bit of grass. Flavor’s like nose and likewise somewhat simple, fresh. Hops are more apparent and longer lasting. Body is great although the carbonation at first is strong. Finish is like flavor, but the hoppiness makes the aftertaste a little medicinal. Except for strength, it’s more like an IPA.

Picked up a 22oz bomber at a liquor store across the street from the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas for $4.99 and poured into a pint glass.

Pours an effervescent hazed apricot hue with a massive fluffy white head that gives way to good amounts of lacing from start to finish. A good amount of dry hopping is detected in the nose as soon as I poured this one into my glass - earthy, piney dried grass balanced well with bready pale malts. The taste is on point with the nose - the hop bitterness creeps up slowly as the flavorful pale malts fade out, along with flavors of herbal tea and dried apricots. The mouthfeel is light and effervescent, very crisp and refreshing with a mild lingering bitterness from the hops.

I would definitely revisit this one, especially on tap when it's fresh.

A - murky orange with a huge, soft, foamy, pure white head that has great retention

S - bready with a faint citrus undertone

T - dark bread, some spicy hops, almost peppery, bitter finish, a bit of alcohol, some faint citrus throughout

M - a bit thin but medium bodied, well carbonated

This is a strange beer. It's complex but a bit unbalanced like the pieces don't fit right. The malt comes across as strange and is itself almost a bit spicy and then the hops are spicy and citrusy. And then under all that the tin body reveals the alcohol. If this were cleaner I would be a bit more excited about it. As it stands, I won't be getting this beer again.
