Notes/Commercial Description:
Hopulent IPA is a big beer with lots of complex malt flavor and excessive hops. This beer will have changes to the grain bill and seasonal hop changes. The character of Hopulent IPA is over the top, too much of everything—a real HOP HEADS DELIGHT!

Nitro pour @ Bar Gernika Boise ID. Served in a tulip snifter.

A: Attractive hazy orange colored body, with great head from the nitro and epic rings of lacing on the glass.

S: Muted at first, but there is a decent amount of tropical fruit and orange character buried along with some sweeter malt notes, possibly caramel.

T: Floral sensation of overripe fruit; peach, mango, tropical fruit, some orange/orange peel, some caramel in a malty backbone that shines through the hops. Bitterness is low for a DIPA.

MF: Smooth body, lower carbonation but creamy from the nitro. Tough to judge the heft with the nitro but its fairly medium bodied. No alcohol detected.

O: A more balanced offering for a hop-forward beer. Definitely decent, but not really memorable.

My first Utah Epic beer.Poured into an imperial nonic a deeply hazed amber infused golden with a frothy one finger head atop,it never really settled completely, just a frothy mass.Aromas of herbal and slightly citric hops along with a big caramel/biscuit malt base, neither win out.Hefty sweetness with caramel and sugary alcohol mixed with herbal hops, the balance is spot on but Iam not sure I want balance in a DIPA.Its pretty good compared to alot of the sweeter styles of the version so I cant give it a bad review,I just want more in your face hops.

Appearace – This is a gorgeous, very think light-colored orange and extremely murky with a huge, shaving cream head that literally left clumps on the inside of my glass.

Smell – The big citrus notes are surprisingly balanced by some lighter pine which is usually overdone. There’s also a nice biscuit aroma that mates well with the hops.

Taste – The hops come out even stronger at the taste. This is nice as DIPAs often smell big but don’t deliver. The biscuit from the nose did retreat a bit so it’s not as balanced at the taste as it is at the nose

Mouthfeel – This is a big beer, well above medium-bodied, with a strong bitterness that will be too harsh for most.

Drinkability – This is a big beer that requires your full and undivided attention. It goes down well for such a big beer but you’ll want to take your time with it.

From BeerAdvocate magazine Issue #58 (November 2011):

LOOK: Hazed orange amber, impressive head

SMELL: Hop oil, spice, floral, papaya, pineapple, fresh hops, green tea, bready malt, alcohol

TASTE: Smooth, bitey, spice, soft bitterness, hop oil, pipe tobacco, herbal, citric zest, birch sap, earthy, grainy, alcohol, tropical fruit, bread crust

Obviously smacks of hops, flavor over bitterness. The flavor, however, scrapes the palate as hard as it can with a plethora of complexities that open up with each sip. A killer, palate devastation is inevitable which is a great thing for any true hophead.

22oz bottle, Release # 10 brewed on November 11, 2010. Pours a hazy dark straw color with a medium creamy white head that retains fairly well and laces the glass.

The aroma is floral hops, lemoney citrus with a slight sour twang.

The flavor is sweet bready malts and floral hops with some citrus and a bit of an off note - leather? The finish is high in bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with low smooth carbonation.

Overall, an OK DIPA. The flavors and smell just didn't jive for me. It seemed to have some notes that I can't place that I just didn't care for.

HOPULENCE, I HAS IT!!! Purchased at Bruery Provisions.

Nice orange pour, good 5/8" head on it, not much for retention though. Aroma, not a huge dry hop aroma, its there, but nothing to write home of really. A bitter piney existence.

Taste, damn, mostly bittersweet, nothing like the green lush hop mouthfeels you hope for, especially when you get pine initially. Pine turns to copper throughout the drinking experience. Chewy malt mouthfeel. Sticky at times. Alcohol plenty noticeable. There's some sweet, but it comes nowhere near the prominence of the bitterness. I prefer less malt, sweet, bitter and more of a lighter body and more hop exposure.

Would not buy again given the $8ish price at Provisions.

Appearance: orange gold with thin white head and very cloudy

Aroma: piney and biscuity with slight tropical citrus fruit hints, strong aroma

Taste: very hoppy with strong pine and citrus explosion of flavor. Just enough malt to give a backbone to the beer, but this is unquestionably a DIPA. The hops really shine

Mouthfeel: full body but not chewy just a very full taste. Medium carbonation.

Overall: a good, not great, DIPA. Definitely held back by cloudy appearance and lack of malt character. But the beer definitely pals a punch with the american hops and provides a slight alcohol note on the finish.

Part of their Elevated Release series #38 weighing in at 8.3% abv. Pours a clouded copper orange color with a light tan head forming thick with evenly dispersed lacing all around my pint glass. Aroma has citric hop notes with evenly layers of biscuit dough and outright bready tones. The nose is great full of a citrus hop quality with some yeast bread notes, slightly nutty. Layered sweetness and hops forms a nice DIPA, really quality citrus rinds and hop bitterness blended with big bready malt qualities. A bit of alcohol flavor peaks through with malt sweetness, and hop bitterness roaring yet it's balanced at the end of the day. Overall not a bad DIPA and it may change yoru perception of beer from Utah.

Having this for the 1st time...love the color and smell, love the upfront taste but not the finish as much as some other other DIPA's.
