Notes/Commercial Description:
Hopulent IPA is a big beer with lots of complex malt flavor and excessive hops. This beer will have changes to the grain bill and seasonal hop changes. The character of Hopulent IPA is over the top, too much of everything—a real HOP HEADS DELIGHT!

Poured a dark golden body which was a little cloudy and had some lace patches/ring on top of a hoppy, citrusy aroma, that had some light fruit sweetnes (tropical?) and a touch of sweet malt. Medium-bodied with slight chewiness thanks to some bread malt, there is some minor malt and fruity sweetness packed in with a pronounced dry citric hop edge and finishes smooth and clean. A good IPA but at times it either came across a little bitter or or harsh so knocked a few points.

T: Initial grapefruit, with some pine needles and a bready malt bill and somewhat bitter finish.

M: Medium bodied, loads of flavor, not overly bitter a nit sweet and well carbonated

O: This was my first offering from this brewery and I dug it. I would drink again.

A bright straw color with a bit of cloudiness. Off white head that laced and retained decently.

Citrus and pine overwhelm most other scents, very straight forward west coast scent.

Great citrus hop profile. A decent bready backing finished off by a sticky pine resin.

Medium carb and medium to full bodied. A tad warm from the abv, but solid.

A: Light yellow/tan straw color with a slight milky hue. Off white head that held and left a nice lace on the pilsner glass it was served in.

S: Pine and citrus are the most prevalent smell.

T: Initially a citrus flavor of grapefruit followed by a mild malt bready taste ending with a strong hoppy sticky pine flavor finish out the flavor profile.

M: Not too heavy but but full bodied with a mild warmth from the alcohol.

I loved this beer I want more. I had it with a great burger at Stout Burgers and Beer in Studio City, CA. One of the best beers I've had in quite a while. This beer is tasty and medium bodied with a great hop profile. Did not taste like the typical run of the mill IPA's being put out by every craft brewery. Hopulent IPA hit all the benchmarks for an excellent IPA. Run and get one you won't be disappointed.

In the ever evolving Elevated Series from Epic Brewing...

Hopulent IPA from Epic Brewing pours a hazy, pale orange with a solid white head and BIG lace. Restrained hop notes, mostly grapefruit and pine, mixes with a slight woodiness and some toasty aromas. Toasted malt flavors quickly slide into grapefruit, orange, and pine resiny flavors, sweet too. Moderately carbonated, Hopulent had a full body that was easy to drink for a DIPA. We like the idea of tweaking a recipe constantly, only wish we could follow it closer.

Cheers!

On tap, pairing w/ applewood smoked ribs & jalapeño slaw.
A - light orange, almost caramel. Light head. Fairly cloudy.
S - ought citrus. Like smelling outside of unpeeled or sliced grapefruit. Little dusty.
T - like it. Lighter IPA but good. Reminds me of shot of espresso with honey & raw sugar. Starbucks needs to replicate.
O - like it. Okay start, good finish, great pairing w/ my food.

This is a pretty beer. A light, bubbly foam sits atop a clear, burnt-orange ale.

Smells of floral hops and biscuit. Subtle notes of toffee.

Taste follows aroma: biscuity malt dominates the tongue with a bitter finish comprised of grassy hops. The finish becomes less clean and more stick, unrefreshing as the beer warms.

Body is particularly light for a DIPA. This ale moves too quickly across the palate.

This was a good beer, but I won't get it again. Not well balanced between hops and malts. Had this been a bit more chewy it might pass relatively well as an english IPA.

A nice IPA. Bigger than some, now as big as others but very drinkable. Pours a deep rich golden color. Aroma was that of grassy hops. Flavor was pretty well balanced with some lingering bitterness. I liked this beer but not as much as others. Good for a try though and you have to appreciate the things they do in Utah.

Hazy orange color with a finger of head. Smells of citrus and pine like any good IPA. Taste strong of hops and citrus. Very hoppy up front but it doesn't linger. Very dry. Seems a little boozy but good. Good with bacon or onion. Lacing is heavy. I think its a decent IPA that's hoppy enough to satisy the hophead but not so overpowering on the aftertaste that it would scare away a newbie.

Got this at Whole Foods in DC. Release 78. From notes.

A - Poured slightly dark gold and bright. Good carbonation with two fingers of thick fluffy off white head. Great lace rings and a half finger of retention.

S - Citrus, sweet syrup, pineapple core, sweet malt.

T - Booze up front, prickly pineapple, sweet fruit, pine resin, alcohol was a bit much.

M - Good carbonation, medium to full body, boozy resinous finish was a bit harsh.

O/D - Too much for me. Possibly too old but the booze wasn't hidden at all and it makes it harsh with the hops. Hard to finish.

22oz bomber with no date. it's hopulent release #66, so after i look it up i find out it's a year old. that's why it was so cheap.

crack it open and smell the dank vegetal scent of a hop cone's armpit. see the unfiltered goodness and foamy head. taste the boozy hop juice, and wish it were fresher.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass; release #83, bottled 12/2/2013. Pours slightly hazy golden orange color with a 1-2 finger dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big tangerine, grapefruit, orange zest, lemon zest, pineapple, peach, floral, grass, light pine, bread, light caramel, and floral/grassy earthiness. Very nice aromas with good complexity of citrus/tropical hops with a fair amount of malt balance; and good strength. Taste of tangerine, grapefruit, orange zest, lemon zest, pineapple, citrus rind, light peach, pine, floral, grass, bread, light caramel, and floral/grassy earthiness. Good amount of crisp citrus rind/pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, orange/lemon zest, citrus rind, light peach, pine, floral, grass, bread, light caramel, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity of bright citrus/tropical hops with light-moderate malt sweetness; with a crisp malt/bitterness balance and no cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth, crisp, and very sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice DIPA. All around good complexity of citrus/tropical hops with light-moderate malt sweetness; and very smooth and crisp to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

22oz bottle poured into a snifter glass. Release #78

A - The beer was disturbed from the ride home giving the sediment a bit of a jostle resulting in a haze. Golden in color with a two-finger white head that collapsed a little quickly. Sticky lacing all over the glass from a simple swirl.

S - Juicy citrus aroma. Some nuanced tropical fruit. Faint graininess that stays out of the way for the hops.

T - Saturated with hops from the instant it hit. Prickly and resiny pine hop flavors. Some graininess near the finish but is quick. Very extended bitter and hoppy flavors in the aftertaste.

M - Slightly viscous feel early, bitterness was consistent throughout but did get quite astringent. Medium-full body, light carbonation, dry.

O - Not sure quite how fresh this beer is. I did buy it cold but aroma seemed subdued. This is tilting hop heavy even for the style. Drank relatively light for ABV and with deceiving ABV.

Recommendation - At $5.49 a bomber this is hard to beat. Worth a try and does not lack in character.

Enjoyed over 40 minutes from a goblet after a nitro-tap pour at Magic Mushroom in Herndon, VA. With and without a cheesy appetizer alongside.

This beer is stunning after a nitro-pour. The cascade waves artistically give way to a hazy yellow-tan core kissed with orange sunlight. But it's dense and only about a third of the outer edges in the glass pass light well. The effect is just cool. The head is creamy thick and long lasting, and lacing holds on in thick sheets and clumps.

Scents are muted early, emerging from an almost spicy starting point to reveal more classic hoppy essences. Citrus pulp and tropical fruits, including papua, find their way up with caramel and some bready malts--these likely enhanced by the nitro pour.

The taste is more floral and spicy than it is fruity, and not as bitter as I'd have expected, overall. Carmelized mango in the middle is nice, and a little resin comes through late. The creamy and airy effect of the pour seems to enhance the flavor profile over what others have written about bottle tasting experiences. It's still not a flavor monster, but was enjoyable to drink.

The body is smooth and almost meaty--low on carbonation and creamy from the nitro. Ethanol is hidden from the nose and the mouthfeel. Still not enough depth or length here, though.

I must admit that the most memorable part of this beer experience was watching the evolving nitro pour. But it was also fairly balanced and had some subtle tastes enhanced by the nitro that made the whole drink worth it.

22oz poured into a Duvel tulip (Release #70 - 8.5%abv)

A: Copper; light beige, two-finger, pillowy head; nice retention leaves some sugary lace with a few thicker chunks.

S: Piney hop aroma; resin; perhaps some toasted malt.

T: Light caramel and toasted malt; resiny hops; not too much going on, but good.

M: Medium-light feel; high carbonation; lasting bitter; less feel than I’d like.

O: A nice IPA; wonder if it changes much from year to year? Good change from citrusy IPA’s; nice drinkability - I’d have it again.

Chill hazed orange colored beer with a tall off-white colored head.

Smells malty and hoppy not super strong on either. Scents of toffee candy and strong tea. Scents of cedar wood and pine.

Starts out toffee with a bitter finish. Strong tea along with the caramel and toffee flavors. Bitterness level is medium. Chest warming betrays the alcohol level but you can't taste any. Minorly bittersweet.

Mouthfeel is thick.

Overall not that outstanding.

A - murky orange, thick foamy head with peeling lacing

S - pine, a tad orange-ish. Not as hoppy as I expected

T- bitter, hop forward initially, but finishes dull with a bit if dish soap aftertaste.

M - thick for an IPA. A little too much carbonation for me. Still hung up on the finish.

O - solid IPA, but with an unrefined finish. Would have again if nothing else better was available. But, a bit off from being a serious contender.

Pours a beautiful copper color with a nice head and substantial lacing. Has very little aroma but still smells fresh and hoppy. This ends the positive notes. The flavor of the beer is lack luster. The hops promised on the bottle are subtle at best and there is no complexity of flavor. It drinks easily but not pleasurably. For such a fresh ipa this should taste so much sharper and pleasant but unfortunately it tastes tired and flat. Will not be trying this one again.

Had this on nitro at Ground Control in Goodyear. Liked it much better than out of the bottle. The creaminess from the nitro really balanced well with the bitterness and brought out the citrus notes.

Great lacing on the glass, and a very smooth mouthfeel.

I'll definitely look for this one on nitro again.

Appearance: orange gold with thin white head and very cloudy

Aroma: piney and biscuity with slight tropical citrus fruit hints, strong aroma

Taste: very hoppy with strong pine and citrus explosion of flavor. Just enough malt to give a backbone to the beer, but this is unquestionably a DIPA. The hops really shine

Mouthfeel: full body but not chewy just a very full taste. Medium carbonation.

Overall: a good, not great, DIPA. Definitely held back by cloudy appearance and lack of malt character. But the beer definitely pals a punch with the american hops and provides a slight alcohol note on the finish.

Bomber > Pint Glass
Split with my dad, Batch #52, so its rather old, wish I woulda known

A - Pours a completely cloudy orange color, nice two finger head, thick lacing.
S - Lots of sweet hop dank aroma here, orange juice, pine, grapefruit, a sweet almost candy kinda malt.
T - Taste is sweet and tart, at first then its creamy sweet caramel malt, almost milky, finishes more on the tart side, a little acidity.
M - Medium on feel, kinda sticky and acidic feel, and a little metallic aftertaste.
O - This grew on me as it warmed up, I would have much rather tried it fresh, I'll keep an eye on batch number for the future, though the concept is cool, they shouldnt produce these under a permanent moniker, gets confusing for a first time buyer such as myself.

22oz bottle of batch #73 $5.99. This was brewed here in Denver and uses Mosaic hops. It smells like piss. Cat piss actually. No, it smells like a cat's litter box that has been pissed in because I also detected a hint of cat shit in the aroma. As you can guess this beer smells bad. Orange color, translucent mostly, good head. The aroma is just too much for me, made me not want to drink the beer. Flavor was ok but was more fruit than ammonia or cat pee. Overall, its good this beer is priced low because it just wasn't very good. No repeat purchases for me and my second let-down from Epic's new Denver brewery.

22 oz bottle poured into a IPA glass. Release #67 (recipe varies between batches). Mosaic hops. No date on bottle. 8.4% ABV.

A - Light head. Golden orange. Distinct lines of carbonation. Upon first pour, cloudy/translucent. Upon 2nd pour, looked like a snowglobe in my glass. Heavy sediment composed of large flakes. Don't mind unfiltered, but this was over the top. Nice lacing as liquid recedes.

S - Wow. Very fragrant. Top flight beer if judged on smell alone. Mango hits you in the nose followed by grapefruit, lemon, and tropical fruit.

T - Bitterness up front. Other flavors less pronounced... grapefruit rind, lemon, and honey. Bitterness does not last.

M - Nothing remarkable, but not unpleasant. More carbonation may improve. Weak consistency.

O - Incomplete beer. Has some characteristics of a great beer, but inconsistent in some areas. Confused as to how recipe changes but naming convention remains the same. Not a good marketing strategy.
