American Pale Wheat Ale |  5.00% ABV

Availability: Year-round

Notes/Commercial Description:
An American Wheat Beer, no banana or clove in this one: highly drinkable, unfiltered, “session-able.” Easy to drink, nice zest and lemon citrus flavors and aromas from the hops balanced with slight malt sweetness and just a wee bit kick of sour from the wheat. Even if you are over training school wheat beers this Wheat is one not to be missed and weighs in with some real kick at 5.0% alcohol by volume.

22 oz bottle directly from the brewery poured into a perfect pint.

Appearance: Very hazy straw yellow with a one finger white head that leaves lacing as I sip.

Smell: A mild wheat kick with citrus and yeast all mixed in.

Taste: A tasty mix with wheat right off the bat. A citrus note follows (lemon). Finishes with a crisp short lived bit of bitterness. Does not have the spiciness that German Wheat beers can have. Pretty simple, but all around pretty tasty.

Mouthfeel: Being unfiltered this still has the yeast suspended and has a super smooth mouthfeel, luscious and velvety. The carbonation is fine.

Overall: A decent American Wheat beer, available in my backyard at a decent price point.

Thanks to blutt59 for sharing this bottle.

The beer pours a slightly hazy yellow color with a white head. The aroma is grain, wheat and grass. The flavor is wheat, lemons, oranges and grain. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. A very drinkable wheat beer.

22 oz. bottle served cold into a pint glass.

Intermountain Wheat is a slightly hazy golden yellow with thick white head that is slow to settle.

Aroma is sweet and slightly fruity with classic wheat beer characteristics. More lemon than banana with a slight bit of peppery spice.

Flavor is clean, crisp, refreshing and mild. It has a light wheat base with the same bright lemons that were picked up in the nose. Assertively hopped for a wheat beer but not over-the-top. Dry finsih.

Mouthfeel is light in body and nicely carbonated. Well balanced and easy-drinking.

Overall a solid American wheat beer. Probably worth a try if you see Epic popping up in your area.

A -bright, see through yellow with a ton of carbonation; bubbles everywhere; huge, soft, foamy white head; great retention

S - wheat, straw, yeast, some lemon

T - light wheat notes, straw, citrusy, orange peel, lemon-lime, leaves a sticky sweetness on the tongue

M - way overcarbonated; very crisp; light bodied

This beer doesn't have bad flavor though it borders on lemon-lime soda. The carbonation is just as intense if not more so than soda. The carbonation leaves so many bubbles on the tongue that getting any flavor at all is hard. Even upon opening the bottle, foam was trying to escape. Once poured, the carbonation ran wild. This isn't an overall bad wheat, but there are others out there that are more perfected. I'm glad I had it once, but I won't be getting it again.

Cloudy orange colored beer with a small white colored head.

Smells mildly sweet with a soda cracker malt aroma and the scent of mineral water. Mild yeast aroma and a mild citrus hop edge.

Starts out mildly sweet with a slight burnt sugar and caramel taste. Tastes a little yeasty with a hard water flavor that leaves a minerals sensation in the mouth. Mild grassy hop taste that goes well with the rest of the flavors. Pretty much this is a Lager made from wheat malt and it does work.

Mouthfeel is good.

Overall a tasty mild beer. Beats 80% of the American Wheat beers buy not trying to be a hop bomb.

22oz bottle to weizen glass.
Thanks to my well traveled friend for bringing this, and two other Epic brews, home with him for me to try. This is my first taste of brew from Epic and it did not disappoint. It poured beautifully in my weizen glass, begging to be consumed. A big and fluffy cloud of a head sits atop a glowing body of varying shades of gold. Lacing splatters the glass the whole way down. The nose is decent but is the weakest part of this beer. Raw wheat and grain aromas mix with corn to give it a generic wheat beer smell. Not offensive but not great either. Taste was much better. Mild citrus hops brought some lemon zest to the palate and highlighted the wheat perfectly. Great flavor and balance. This is one of the better tasting american-style pale wheats that I've had. Plenty of carbonation but it is not as lively as most wheats, and I think that's a good thing. Great drinkability because the flavor was balanced without getting boring and the moderate level of carbonation allowed it to go down quickly. If only I had more.

A: The pour is a quite pale straw/yellow color with a nice fluffy white head.

S: Certainly get the wheat on the nose with a nice breadiness. Some hints of lemon and lemon zest, but not overtly sour like a lot of these kinds of beers. Some nice citrus notes and a mild spiciness.

T: Sweet bready flavors with a fair amount of wheat presence. A mild bitterness with some citrus hop flavors, particularly lemon zest. A mild tartness and spiciness, but not too much of either flavor.

M: Fairly light in body with a moderate level of carbonation.

O: Not the best of styles, but a fairly well done beer that was quite easy to drink.

22oz bottle from the State Liquor Store in Vernal, UT. Around $3. Into my Hopus (no idea what the hell this glass is but it looks cool) Glass. First beer from Epic.

A: Pours a very cloudy pale gold color with a dense rocky white head, a good two fingers worth that is sticking nicely to the glass with big chunks of lacing. Decent retention.

S: Grainy wheat malts, a slight little bit of lemon zest that I pick up in almost every American wheat beer I've ever had. Smells pretty yeasty as well, not hefeweizen yeast but a decent wheat beer sort of yeasty spicyness. Not bad, maybe a little muted.

T: Big time wheat graininess in the malt department, leads into a decent little hop bite that plays nicely with the lemony wheat profile, and finishes with a decent bitter kiss to the tongue. This is actually pretty damn tasty. Has a bit of an earthy flavor to it as well. Tasty.

M: Carbonation is spot on and gives a little bit heavier of a mouthfeel, with a great smooth creamyness as well. Quite dry on the finish, begs for another sip.

D: Yeah, this hits the spot on this upper 90s day in Eastern Utah. This would be an awesome beer to sit around and enjoy the outdoors with. Great flavors, and relatively low alcohol. Just a bummer that its only in bombers. Would love to see this in 6'ers! Promising beer from a promising new brewery! Highly recommended.

Classic Series
22oz. Bomber
$3.09 ea.

Pours a cloudy yellow color, carbonation, with a white head, some sticky lacing left behind. The nose is malty, with some yeast notes, grassy, with some spice notes. The taste is slightly sweet, malty, yeasty, spicy. Medium body. Would not buy this one again.

Pours a murky light orange-brown with a foamy beige head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Thin streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, wheat, and slight butter aromas. Taste is much the same with malt, wheat, and biscuit flavors on the finish. There is a very mild amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is very grain forward, but lacks the citrus aroma described on the label.

Pretty hazy orange colored brew, pretty nice sized white head. Nice amount of lace. Scent is mostly filtered-wheat characteristics, maybe a bit of citrus. Taste is pretty clean, wheat, fairly sweet. A bit of floral hoppiness. Kinda sharp on the tongue, but kinda soft too, somehow. Nothing too complex, but this certianly is a pretty good brew.

A solid pour into my Lost Abbey Teku glass produces an almost, two-finger thick, pale tan colored head. The beer is a pale amber / gold hue that shows an almost brilliantly clear, bright gold hue when held up to the light. The aroma smells of hoppy tropical fruit notes that are backed by more hoppy herbal notes. Specific aromas of mango, tangelo, lychee, juicy fruit bubble-gum, and papaya play the dominant notes with hints of menthol, and perhaps a touch of pine rounding things out. The grain character plays a distant second to the hop character, but does contribute a hint of pale cracker like malt character. As the beer warms up the pale malt character gets a touch more expressive, it contributes a touch of dried grass / hay and reminds me of freshly crushed pale malt.

This has a solid, somewhat herbaceous bitterness to it up front, and has a nicely complimentary tart wheat character; this last is accentuated by the fruity hop character. Light and refreshing, and it has an effervescent carbonation to it, this is certainly a consummate hot weather beer; it has just a touch of body to it, enough to keep it from seeming overly thing, but not so much as to not make this eminently quaffable. The fruity hop notes aren’t quite as noticeable in the flavor as they were in the aroma, and this is due to the dry quality of this beer, but there are still noticeable notes of tangelo zest, lychee, sweet lemon zest, and a touch of tropical fruit character.

This is a nice American Wheat beer. I definitely like the fact that the dominant character is from the hops; having said that, this beer could use a bit more hop character for my particular tastes, but I have a feeling that wasn’t what the brewer was going for here. Speaking of unrealistic expectations, I would love to see a version of this fermented with a Saison Dupont derived yeast strain. Still, this is quite nice, and I wouldn’t mind having a few fresh pints of this on a hot summer’s day.

Pours 1 finger of white head. Decent retention. Color is a hazed straw yellow hued orange.

Aroma: Musty hay. Orange peel. Some coriander spice. Wheat.

Taste: Has a corn like flavor that I normally pick out in American adjunct lagers. Wheat. Orange citrus and lemon zest. A bit of spice.

Mouthfeel: Smooth and clean. Light boded with a good amount of carbonation. Ends dry.

Overall, this was a below average wheat. Not a lot of flavor here and the flavor that was present wasn't that amazing. Easy to drink, but not necessarily enjoyable.

This beer was just OK. Nothing too special. Still looking for a good wit for myself. This will not be a repeat.

Beer is yellow with a mild haze to it, a thin white head of medium and small bubbles, minimal retention, minimal lacing, moderate to low carbonation.

Aroma is estery, mildly citrus, mildly sweet.

Beer is medium in body and sweet but the yeast is quite strong. Very Strong, The beer almost seems solventy from the yeast alone. Interesting, I don't think there's anything intentionally wrong with it but I don't think this will be a repeat.

The body is a nice hazy orange color but there's not much staying power on the white head.

On the nose I picked up piney hop aromas first which was intriguing. It has that classic thin and acidic wheat smell as well.

It doesn't taste like the average wheat beer. It has a citrussy (especially lemon) flavor to it that is very crisp. The wheatiness is surely there as well and offers that 'twang' of dryness at the end.

Very full bodied beer with drying potential.

Super drinkable and would make a perfect summertime brew.
