purchased from the source for about 10 bucks poured into an epic snifter. looks like a belgian golden, clean and clear honey color with an expanding white fizzy head. smells like granny smith apples, green and crisp, with some spicy belgian yeast there to back it up. flavor actually carries a bit of grassy hops that works very well with the understated apple flavors going on. the fruity notes in the yeast also add a perfect complement. the apple isnt in your face, and its not particularly sour, just tart and clean in the finish. mouthfeel is well carbonated but not too intense, and the body is just under medium. this beer is quite drinkable because it lacks that gnarly sweetness many of the fruity beers have. the apple is not dominant, rather just another player on the team. i liked this one a lot, although im not sure it fits with what id call a saison, but its an excellent bottle of beer.

from a 22oz, shared with neorunner.

a: huge cloudy billowing head. one might say overcarbonated since the cap removed itself with an angry cat like hiss. cloudy body and straw yellow, perfect color for what seems like a lighter bodied saison. very much looking forward to the first sip, as soon as this damn head settles down.

s: cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, nutmeg, then saison yeasts. similar to wlp670 w/o the brett, which seems to indicate nice clean and tart, oh man am i excited. though the spices are kinda meh, i hope it's due to high-ferm temps and not silly over-compensation spices... cardboard, mint, and wheat grains come through a bit later. so i'm guessing this is an xmas saison? doesn't exactly smell sour or appley

t: tart, then over-nutmeg'd numbing, then cloyingly dull saison yeast and wheat. yes the the smells come through, but are an ugly ass mess of xmas spices. i've had worse homebrews, and other over-spiced beers, with the fantastically horrible standard of short's gambler as the worst spiced beer ever. this is a close second tho, muddled and rude. i cant taste any more, if you tell me there's apple in here, i'll believe you. it's like a belgian christmas apple pie that got drenched in cider-mix. so close to drainpouring...

m: numbing and effervescent, if that combo is possible. bodywise the base is light-medium and unoffensive. the tastes don't help any mouthfeel though.

o: Epic Brewing...fail? in the words of sir charles...turrible. tastes like acetaldehyde and mulled cider, fermented at way too high of a temp. brewers need to stop overcompensating with saisons by adding spices. they are ugly and distracting. ugh, call this beer a spring-glug and i'd be much happier drinking it because i had warning.

Release # 9.

Pours a slightly murky light honey orange with a 1/2 inch foamy orange-white head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of grains, yeast, and a heavy dose of almost medicinal smelling spice aromas. Taste is the same with a slight hint of sour green apples on the finish. The spices linger on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a nice crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good saison flavor wise but the aroma is very spice heavy in an awkward way.

Poured from bomber to tulip, served along side four cheese Pizza Rolls:

Pours a nice hazy pale gold with a finger of expanding white head. The sourness really translates well through the nose plus a mix of clove, banana, ester, the base beer smells lovely. The taste is excellently balanced - all the staple characteristic of a good saison topped with a tart/sour blend of sweet fruits. Very refreshing beer. I'd definitely recommend this one. All 4's.

It poured a hazy yet still somewhat clear golden yellow. Not much of a head remained after pouring but left some nice lacing.

It smell of herbs, couldn't really get past that. I could tell there were some sour notes, but mostly just spices and herb. Kind of a dissapointment.

Tasted very spicy upfront and through out. The sour notes come through towards the aftertaste but are still less than I expected.

Mouthfeel is pretty good, it bounces the spices around the tongue. Helps it feel just right for the 8.1%

Overall, I wouldn't recomend this to a friend and I probably won't be buying it again. I would say if someone really like tastes of herb and spices I might suggest trying it, but I was dissapointed. I was really hoping for a belgian sour saison with more apple notes in it.

22oz bottle poured into my Allagash glass. It poured a slightly hazy, golden yellow color with a thin white head barely covering the top of the beer.

The aroma shows a ton of spices to it, which given the ingredients isn't surprising. The grains of paradise and coriander are really bold, giving it a strong citrus presence. The nutmeg, cloves and cinnamon all add some earthy, christmasy spiciness. The spices just overwhelm, I don't get much else past them.

In the taste, the spices dominate up front but there is some really good sour apple flavors that do come out in the finish. The coriander and grains of paradise just seem way overdone to me though and unfortunately dominate the beer.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied with carbonation being above average. Overall, I didn't really care for it. The spices dominated way too much and covered up nearly all of the sour apple flavors. The Christmas like spices didn't work well for it either. I had hoped for a little more sourness out of it given the name.

Thanks for sharing MisterClean!

A: Pours a pale light lemon color with a thick but very active short-lived bright white head.
S: I get notes of light green fruits, leafy scents, parsley(?), spices, cardamom, apples and cinnamon. Strange.
T: I get hints of lightly sour green apples, green herbal and leafy scents, Belgian yeast, cinnamon, clove, cardamom, and other spices. Nutmeg in the finish. Dry.
M: Very frothy carbonation, medium body. A bit too bubbly.
O: Very strange but it does taste as it sounds. Reminds me of Saison du Buff. Thanks for sharing!

Poured into a tulip. Release #6 with an ABV of 7.8%.

3.0 A: Big carbonation in this one. First pour yielded five fingers of head. Hazed golden wheat color with a slight greenish tint. Big foamy white head with average retention and moderate amounts of spotty lacing.

4.5 S: Very exciting and complex nose. Sour apples are certainly present. Mindbogling array of spices with corriander, grains of paradise, and anise leading the way. Underneath that there is cinnamon, nutmeg, and a touch of clove. The base is a fruity/funky combo with apple orchard, earthiness, and a slight woodiness.

4.0 T: The spices coalesce to bring about a potent herbalness. The corriander, grains, cinnamon, and clove hold their individual identities well. Sour apples aren't as strong as I thought they'd be, but instead it plays a welcomed complementary role. Good funk, earth, and fruitiness from the parts mentioned above. Orchard, autumn, woody, hay, damp earth.

5.0 M: Lighter medium body. Good active, spritzy carbonation. Solid creaminess as well. Everything I could ever ask for in a saison.

4.5 D: I'm a little baffled by the rather mediocre reviews. Perhaps the older batches weren't as good. I find this to be one of the better saisons I've had in a long time. Solid flavors that work together and a kick ass mouthfeel.
