This massive Stout pours a mahogany black with a thick, brown head. The aroma is all chocolate roasted malt. The aroma is all chocolate and toasted malt. The first wave of flavor embraces anise and dark, bitter chocolate but opens up to include coffee, smoke and rich sweet malt.

22oz brown bomber with a batch # on the label.

LOOK: Black, opaque, firm light brown head, excellent lacing

SMELL: Coffee, brownies, soft charcoal, black berries, burnt raisins, molasses, noticeable alcohol

TASTE: Silky smooth, creamy full body, molasses, dark fruit twang, alcoholic bite, mocha, charred wood, herbal hops, burnt toast, very warming, dates, mineral, lingering burnt finish

This is a big beer, yeah ... stating the obvious though this beer is bigger than most 9.0% abv Impy Stouts. Full on malt with a complimenting alcohol character, balance of roastiness and sweetness goes a long way. Seek a bottle or two out.

Poured cold from the bottle. This beer is extremely black without light permeating it. The head is bubbly and brown that didn't last long. There is not much to the smell... sweet and little hint of burnt and coffee. The taste is sweeter than most stouts with a nice burnt flavour. There was a slight chocolate taste and you can definitely taste the ABV. A very balanced beer overall.

Would I buy it again? Yes.

Poured for me pitch black with a dark light absorbing hue, big tan head forming thick, really nice looking stout. Aroma has ripened fruit with dark chocolate, even a light booze character with brown sugar roasted malts with hints of tart cherry if I had to pick one fruit. Flavors combine nicely dominating with dark chocolate and robust coffee notes, even a creamy vanilla character with big roasted dark malts creeping to dry things out. Herbal hops evident but a bit overshadowed by dark roasted malt character. Mouthfeel is full bodied with even smooth carbonation rolling in, goes down smooth with minimal alcohol presence. Overall impressive offering I'm hooked on these Utah stouts from Epic from their light to the Big Bad Baptist and everything in between excellent drinkable versions of each style.

Batch #4. Bomber served slightly chilled in a goblet.

Epic's Imperial Stout is a very dark brown color with good clarity on the pour. It forms a nice thick off-white head. It's slow to settle leaving some nice lacing behind.

Aroma is rich and roasty with with hints of chocolate. It's a bit boozy but not overpoweringly so.

Flavor is strong both in dark roasted malts but also I hop bitterness. It has a very big malt backbone to support it but it's not as balanced as the best imperial stouts.

Mouthfeel is big in body and very bitter. Creamy smooth carbonation makes it a little easier to drink but the alcohol is pretty forward.

Overall this beer has elements that are enjoyable and others that detract. I would like to say I could recommend it but there are others (Stone, Great Divide, etc.) that make a better big stout for the price.

Pours like a bad-ass impy stout should: like oil, slick and tar-black, with a head of mocha froth that tries to fight through that 10% ABV as long as possible before chilling to a bubbly "puffed rice" layer and eventually a thin skim.

The nose on this one is mostly gooey and fudgy, sitting somewhere between milk chocolate and dark, bitter baking chocolate. Mild coffee notes, and an earthy/mineral vibe that gives it some edge, but never overdoes it. The alcohol is quiet in the nose, although might perk up with some warming...

Taste features strong notes of anise/black licorice, but never too out of whack. That's balanced by the considerable chocolate character, which is given further depth thanks to bitter coffee notes. For a 10% beer, the alcohol is felt and tasted just a touch, providing more subtle support than some other imperial stouts of similar strength. A dry finish leaves green, leafy hops lingering. Reminds me of Green Flash's Double Stout, in more ways than one, though not exactly a clone.

Feel is appropriately thick and gooey, though never overly chewy, partly thanks to the soft carbonation tingle that works its way over the tongue. Very, very nice.

This one deserves a name better than just "Imperial Stout." But hey, it's what's in the glass that counts, and so far, judging from this and Hopulent, Epic Brewing is doing some great stuff, and is a brewer I'll look forward to investigating further.

A: Pours a pitch black with a great looking finger width tan head.
S: Chocolate aromas and coffee notes pour out of this. Slightly smoky.
T: starts with sweet chocolate and malty notes. Transitions into a slightly smoky and bitter middle. Coffee and chocolate a present throughout.
M: Thick, smooth and creamy. Mild carbonation and full bodied. Finishes with a nutty and slightly dry, bittet hang.
O: this brew is done really well. Great mouthfeel, nice taste and hides the booze well. A great sipper for tne winter months.

22 oz. Just about black, nice layer of tan head formed. Receded to a ring.

Aroma, Quite a bit of chocolate, cocoa. A dry earthy quality.

Taste, Load of chocolate and cocoa. Some roast, thoughv very little coffee. Just a hint of piney hops. Finish with the cocoa, fairly dry.

Solid medium body, enough carbonation though not quite creamy. Alcohol well hidden, no problem drinking this.

Imperial milk stout like, I like it.
