Notes/Commercial Description:
This massive Stout pours a mahogany black with a thick, brown head. The aroma is all chocolate roasted malt. The aroma is all chocolate and toasted malt. The first wave of flavor embraces anise and dark, bitter chocolate but opens up to include coffee, smoke and rich sweet malt.

A: Poured jet black with a big ol' rocky brown head, great caronation, loads of bubbles and plenty of lacing remains moments and sips afterwards

S: Bit of smoke, chocolate, coffee and a little whiff of dark fruits.

T: Initial sordove char and light smoke on this is blended well with bitter chocolate and coffee beans. A little bit of waivering dark fruits is present but barely detected. This beer is simply char, coffee and cocoa all the way through. A little booze sting is noticed but its just right. The finish has a light to moderate bitterness and is somewhat creamy

M: Fuller bodied, well carbonated, loads of flavor. Like I mentioned, somewhat creamy. Hearty and warming

O: A very well done non BA Imperial Stout!

Poured into an Elysian snifter. Pours pitch black with a finger of brown head with good retention and nice lacing. Aroma of toasted malt, chocolate and vanilla, a hint of alcohol. Flavor dominated by toasty, slightly charred malt, chocolate and coffee. Finishes with lingering charred coffee and hops. Medium bodied. A nicely made imperial stout on the char end of the flavor spectrum. Could use a bit more body and intensity of the initial flavors, but tastes great and the high ABV is more than covered. Not for the charred malt intolerant. ABV 10.1, somewhat higher than the listing here. This appears to vary from batch to batch.

Release #10, bottled 20 November 2012. My bottle says 11.1% ABV, not this piddly 9.1% that BA has listed. Tasted 29 June 2013.

Pours black and thick like motor oil. One finger of medium-brown head, quite dark. Good retention, excellent lacing. Top-notch.

Smell is big and chocolatey. Sweet and rich and very good, but a little one-dimensional.

Taste starts out big and sweet, molasses and milk chocolate, before it turns roasty with a touch of charcoal. Okay, so it's two-dimensional here, and the flavors are really good, but the thing keeping it from being top-shelf is the lack of depth and complexity.

Feel is just a tad thin. That's surprising, given what a bruiser the beer is in general. But it's a little oily, a little slick, and lacking in the chewiness and fluffiness.

A very good non-bal imperial stout. Rich, potent, and flavorful. The thing that separates it from beers like Darkness is the lack of variety, the lack of depth. But it's still pretty darn good.

650ml bomber #11 10.3% poured into tulip 12/6/13 cheers alpineclimber for splitting the bottle

A black liquid with a deep cola edge when tilted, large mocha head has good retention leaving some thick rings before falling to a thin film

S bakers chocolate, licorice, espresso, burnt toffee, some raisins, char and smoke, and just a hint of citric hops, smells pretty solid

T darker roast in the mouth with the espresso playing a bigger part leaving me wonder if they brew it with coffee but I'm too lazy to do some research, I suppose I'll just enjoy this dark roast instead

M leaning towards heavy, no booze going down, char and burnt espresso linger on the finish

O well rounded right down the middle, straightforward but very well executed, something I'd look for in the future

drinks very smooth for a big fresh stout, I'd like to taste an aged version but its already drinking well, a little hops in the background but mostly an intense dark malt that works well for me

22oz Bomber
"RELEASE #10 – 11.1%ALC./VOL"

A – Pours a nice dark mahogany brown, quite thick as well. Head is thin, but light brown in color, leaves standard lacing throughout.

S – Bitter chocolates, malted milk, light roasted coffee. Strongly bitter, sweetness is undetected, though this is not a charred mess.

T – Deep, complex, and rich. Strong dark chocolate here, more bitter coffee, almost espresso. Sweetness is only detected on the palate, as it provides a nice coating and leads you to come back for more. Quite warming.

M – Thick, appropriately for the style. The alcohol is noticeable here, but only in the way that it warms you up on the way down. Wonderful.

O – Grabbed this on a whim, at what I would regard as a fair price. This is a great quality imperial. I haven't had any other released, but this one is stellar.
