Notes/Commercial Description:
This beer is the epitome of Epic’s IPAs. This hard hitting brew manages to pack a punch while still providing that fantastically complex IPA flavor. Slightly floral aromas hit the nose while resinous flavors dominate the body, finishing with the ideal palate cleansing bitterness.

Poured into an imperial nonic a dull medium golden with a frothy 1/2 finger white head atop that left one big continous sheet of lace as it settled into a frothy mass.Drunken fruit really stood out in the nose, along with some leather and citrus, the boozy fruit really stood out here.Boozy and quite sweet up front, again that leathery element comes into play along with overripe tropical fruit hop notes, its not as over the top sweet as most of the style are but its big and sweet. This is a solid rendition of a DIPA,Epic makes some solid if not spectacular beers.

22oz bottle - release #3, 9.9% ABV. Pours a cloudy straw orange with a medium frothy white head that laces the glass.

The aroma is dank, piney hops with a little sweet malt and a touch of fruit.

The flavor is some sweet malt and a little fruit with a lot of dank, piney, resiny, peppery hops that give it a lot of bitterness in the finish. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, a surprisingly good DIPA! It's a big unbalanced hop bomb, but well done and not too much over the top.

Pours a deep cloudy orange with a decent off white head. Smells floral and piney. Tastes bitter with a good malt character that balances out the floral and piney flavors with a nice sweetness. Mouthfeel is thick with a dry finish. Overall this was a solid double IPA.

My favorite IPA from Epic. Beautiful yellow hue color. Beautiful Cenntenial hop smell and taste; SO fruity and floral. Complex, yet simple grain bill adds a smooth elegance to the bitterness of the hop profile. If I had the money I would by cases of it.

Nice orange colored ipa with a decent sized head on the top, often tought to have a nice looking head on a dipa. Aroma wasn't really the complex dry hop meld I was hoping for, it was sufficient, but not really when you think about the price of the beer (almost $10). The light biscuit malt type aroma is up there, somewhat obscuring what most of us hope will be a heady hop presence, but that doesn't always happen.

Taste is good, prominent bitterness, decent hop mouthfeel, quite sticky/resinous. Alcohol hid pretty well. Really its kind of the standard west coast dipa, but the real problem here is the price, there are better options at almost half the price.

Good beer, bad price. Don't see me buying that one because of better options at better prices.

Epic arrived on the Minnesota beer scene this week, and this is my first opportunity to give their wares a try.

Label on the bottles says: "RELEASE #4 9.9% ALC./VOL" The label also tells me I should go to epicbrewing.com to "explore this limited brew's precise details."
Here are it's precise details:
Imperial IPA Release #4
Brewed on April 18, 2011.
For release four we lowered the added mass amounts of Simcoe hops.
The Malts: Briess 2-Row Brewers Malt and Muntons Carapils.
The Hops: Columbus, Simcoe, Centennial, and Amarillo.
ABV 9.9%

Pours an nice cloudy, rusty, gold. A solid finger/finger and a half of off white head rises to the top. As the foamy bubbles reside, a nice lacing is left in their place.
The smell while nice is nothing to get too worked up about. There will be no ingestion of beer through the nose with this beer (unlike Abrasive, Pliny, Hopslam, etc...) trying to get as much pleasure from it aroma as the taste. It has a nice piney, resinous, slightly citrus offering to your nose.
This is nice west coast style IIPA. Nice and piney, with just enough citrus in the hops to not make it unbearable. It is followed by the right amount of malt to balance out the flavors.
While not thick, the beer does stick around for a while, and for me with IIPAs, that is just fine. This is not tongue and palette destroyer just a very well balance IIPA.

I'm hoping the relatively low price point ($5.99) is a permanent thing and not just a introductory teaser. I will be picking this one up again!

This beer pours a Burnt orange color with slight cloudiness that settles. It has a floral nose, but the alcohol is fairly prominent. The taste is bitter throughout with slight notes of caramel. Calm velvety mouth feel with a sharp lingering bitter finish.

Batch #13 weighing in at 9.6% ABV.

Served chilled into a goblet, this beer is a hazy golden copper color with quick-settling head. It leaves some nice lacing behind.

Aroma is strong and hoppy but it should probably have even a little more in this day and age of OTT DIPAs. Nice citrus and grapefruit notes. A little bit of a honey-like sweetness.

Flavor is intensely hoppy, in fact, moreso than I would have expected given more muted aroma. Bitter orange, pine, and grapefruit all contribute to the taste. The sweetness from the huge malt bill is evident only at the very beginning of each sip. From there on out, it's a palate wrecker.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and nicely carbonated. The alcohol and the bitterness get to you after a while.

Overall a good double IPA but not one of the best. Worth a try if you really love the style.

On tap at Wine 101

Pours an orangish amber with a yellow hue and no head. The nose is floral with grapefruit, citrusy aromas. The taste is pale malt up front with grapefruit, citrus, and floral hop notes in the finish. There are very faint yeast notes in the finish as well. It's light to medium bodied and easily drinkable.

This isn't a bad beer, but it's one dimensional and pretty forgettable. It's an easy drinker though.

22 oz. bottle poured into a wine glass.

Appearance-Amber in color with a touch of haze. Moderately tall white cap of foam with solid retention.

Aroma-Sticky piney and resiny hops over a full, toasty caramel malt backbone. Undertones of tropical fruit-dried pineapple and mango-with tangerine rinds. Not overly aromatic, but delicious and long-lasting.

Flavor-Caramel and raisins up front with piney resinous hop flavor. Some tropical fruits in the middle-juicy mango and apricot. Moderately high bitterness is incredibly smooth. Finish is a blend of raisiny caramel, pine, and juicy fruit.

Mouthfeel-Medium full body with moderately high carbonation. Some warming from the high booze.

Delicious and exceptionally drinkable for something this boozy and this hoppy. Wonderfully balanced and awesome. Get this, you won't be disappointed.
