Wow... This was insanely drinkable for the 10%+ abv... Complex blend of roasted malt flavor plus cocoa, coffee and finishes with smooth, low-key bourbon notes. Barrel aging doesn't take anything away from the sum of the parts that make this beer so enjoyable. Great flavors, with no one component over-played / out of balance. Dense aroma and great feel, too, Will try to get this one again, for sure!

Appearance: Opaque black, good head.

Smell: Dark chocolate, woody, slight vanilla.

Taste: Thick and coating. Vanilla-tinged coffee with a nice sweetness. Moves towards a more straight-up coffee flavor and dry coffee finish.

Overall: I forgot to write down the batch number, but this had been sitting on the shelf at the store for at least 2 years. Still was a very tasty big stout that stands beside the bigger names.

Batch #30 - Served in tulip @ 55deg.

A - Very dark brown. Not quite jet black, but approaching. ~1" head when poured aggressively.

S - Coffee, cocoa, hint of peppery spices. Coffee dominates the nose.

T/M - Coffee and bitter chocolate up front, clean malty finish.

O - It's a good imperial stout, but the coffee and chocolate are a little dominate and there aren't noticeable whiskey or oak flavors present. Not quite great, but has the potential. I'll keep my eye on the other BBB releases. Prost!

This is like an adult frapaccino...huge coffee and chocolate flavors with a thickness and mouthfeel that is like oatmeal....A+.

A: Black as obsidian which is expected slight mocha head that quickly vanishes, coats the lass slightly from the alcohol

S: Nice coffee smell has the vanilla toffee slight oak smell of a nice barrel aged beer get a slight chocolate smell. It's rich aroma is very enticing .

T: a deep roast taste, rich vanilla, soft toffee, tastes of chocolate, not much heat for barrel aged but you know the alcohol is there sweet but not over powering so on the end.

M: This has the mouthfeel of what KBS should have had it's not super thick but it holds it's own and you feel it envelope your tongue.

O: This is the beer that KBS wants To be I know they use different barrels whiskey v. bourbon but The chocolate and coffee and whiskey blend together here instead of being at harsh contrasts. This is a nice beer but if you are looking for BCBCS this doesn't have the exquisite mouthfeel although leaps and bounds ahead of KBS.

Release #20.
Poured from a bomber into a tulip on 06.17.14.

A: 1/3 finger tan head that quickly recedes. Midnight black body with no red in the glass.

S: Strong coffee with a chocolate base.

T: Coffee is dominant. A tiny bit of vanilla is subtle. Fig and pepper come out on the finish when it's warm.

M: Creamy. Soda-level bubbles on the tongue. I don't usually care much about mouthfeel, but this one is too bubbly.

O: The coffee was too strong in this one. It overpowered everything else. The vanilla was barely there to the point that it seemed like a stout that hadn't been aged in barrels. There was also a massive alcohol burn which is understandable at 10.5% ABV, but other BB stouts have hidden the alcohol much better. I'm aging another one that hopefully turns out better. I wouldn't buy this one again, as it is.

Rating: C-, 70/100.

Release #10, 22oz bottle poured into Teku glass

A- pours jet black in color with a small foamy and fizzy khaki colored head that reduces to just a reign around the glass, a few alcohol legs sticking around

S- so many aromas of dark chocolate & cocoa nibs up front with big chocolate malt notes, fresh dark roasted coffee mixes perfectly with the chocolate aroma, providing notes of charred wood, smoke & herbal coffee. Caramel and coffee undertones mix with licorice & fruit-infused tobacco. Oaky barrel closes it out with aromas of vanilla & barrel juice. Very impressive

T- Deep and rich chocolate malt opens up with notes of cocoa and bitter dark chocolate bar. Sumatra-like coffee subtleties kick in behind the chocolate adding a nice compliment. Herbal hop notes mix with some smoky charred malt mid-palate, with hints of heavy whipping cream, dark cherry & molasses. Hints of nutty oak, vanilla and barrel juice close it out

M- medium-heavy body with low carbonation leads to a slightly creamy mouthfeel and a smooth and warming finish

O- this was consumed with a couple of years aging on it and it's held up just fine. The aroma was out of this world and the flavors seemed to mesh after some aging. Barrel notes aren't as pronounced as some BA Imperial Stouts, but this is a very well made beer
