Batch #20. SLC # 1442. into a snifter.

Pours a pitch black with a big creamy beige head. The smell is a massive coffee bomb that hits you as soon as you crack open the bottle. I mean massive. taste is also HUGE on coffee and that basically overwhelms any other flavors here. Now im a fan of coffee..but this is even too much for me. Full bodied, creamy feel, ABV undetectable.

Overall fresh this is just a coffee bomb. I got 2 bottles so i will rereview this a year from now to give it time to mellow out.

I had just tapped this keg at my workplace and after pouring one for a customer, and after having closed, zoomed in on this for my Otsukare (closing time) beer.

What follows is my experience with the Big Bad Baptist.

A: Safe to say I did not expect this level of head from the Baptist today. Unexpectedly long lasting, and almost sticky. Both of these remind me of porn. If lace is your thang, well... it has it in spades. I'm practically looking at an upside down lace Colosseum.

S: Coffee notes hit strongly right away. That and what reminds me of dark chocolate. Chef's salty chocolate balls, if I had to imagine what they'd smell like.

T: Where the smell might seem diminished, it's just a shell, a signboard for the real experience in the glass. What happens next is like nothing I've seen in beer. It's got some kind of mature taste. It's not particularly one I'm all over, or could come close to calling a session beer, but god damn this is some flavor. If I had to compare this to the food world, this would be like a coffee-bean rubbed steak, char-coaled to a definite but balanced and blackened sear. O man this shit is glorious.

M: God. Fuck... O god. it's... It's so good and it feels so wrong. It... came in my mouth and... it slides smoothly over until you pull it back across the tongue... and those bubbles gently pop in just the right amount. For the beer... I don't think it could be any better one way or the other.

Sweet Jesus Mr. Baptist... Dunk my head in your glorious black pool of yeast splooge and I promise to never tell anyone... so long as you're on tap.

Poured from a a 22oz. bomber into a tulip glass

A- Pours a thick black. With an aggressive pour a small cafe latte colored head forms and quickly dissipates to a ring.

S- Big coffee, then chocolate with some sweetness. Not getting a whole lot of the barrel.

T- Similar to the aroma but with the whiskey coming through. Tastes like a someone but a small shot of whiskey in a FBS. The sweetness level in this reminds me of an Irish coffee.

M- Thick, sticky and creamy.

O- A very good stout and a pretty good barrel aged one. I don't think this is aged long enough to become very complex and, as it is, remains just a great base stout with some added whisky flavor. I enjoyed how it reminded me of an Irish coffee and I guess $12 for a barrel aged bomber is pretty good. Having said that I could probably replicate the taste for cheaper by adding a shot of whisky to a FBS, actually think I'll try that soon.

Release #20

A-Standard stout color, dark brown to black. Mocha colored head that leaves minimal lacing.

S-Nice fresh coffee aroma with a little bit of vanilla sweetness and hints of dark chocolate.

T-Follows the nose, but the coffee flavor overwhelms everything else. Nice roasted malt profile with notes of dark chocolate and vanilla. A very very faint hint of bourbon.

M-Nice smooth medium body stout. Lower than average carbonation.

O-A bit disappointed in this one. A decent coffee stout, but if it didn't say BBA on the label I wouldn't have know it was. They must have flashed aged it in the barrels. Would try other releases to see if there is any variance, but not this one.

Batch # 17

This beer pours out pure onyx with a half finger of mocha head. Straight-up you get coffee wafting towards your nose and your mouth begins to water. When you stick your schozz into the glass you pick up other scents of whiskey/barrel, roast and chocolate. The beer hits the palate with a silk-like quality and the flavors spread quickly throughout the mouth. Despite the 12% ABV there is virtually no burn with the intake of this brew. Despite the fact that I've had several Big Bad Baptists, I think this may either be my favorite batch, or they are really hitting the mark.

Batch #9 on 11/15/13.

Very mellow but enjoyable imperial stout. Definitely smell and taste the coffee notes which I enjoy, but let intense, less bold than other stouts. A very strong IMP stout, but reserved in how bold any 1 flavor could be. GREAT mouthfeel however. Smooth as a beach rock.
