Poured from 22 oz bomber into snifter.

A: Pours a very dark murky brown that almost looked black. No light penetrating this sucker. Capped with a one finger mocha colored head that settled fairly quickly to a thin ring and left spotty lacing.

S: Roasted coffee beans, sweet dark chocolate, bourbon, and a hint of vanilla.

T: Follows the nose quite nicely. Good balance between roasted coffee and dark chocolate. I think I could drink this all day. Alcohol not very apparent.

M: Thick and creamy with a velvety texture that goes down rather smoothly.

O: Outstanding imperial stout. A much different beast than say BCBS but no less enjoyable.

Drank from a 1 pt. 6 fluid ounces bottle acquired in a trade with mps
Release# 25
Served in a snifter

The beer poured dark brown and moderately viscous. Somewhat light for the style. The liquid was topped by a one-finger tall, tight, foamy, caramel colored crown. The head slowly faded to a lasting mass of bubbly froth. Odd shaped streaks of lacing coated the glass.

The aroma was very coffee forward. Freshly roasted coffee beans came to mind. Perhaps some coffee grounds as well. Roasted malts were noticeable, along with subtle hints of char. Dark chocolate and molasses notes came through as well. A touch of vanilla appeared as the beer warmed.

Coffee notes dominated in the flavor profile as well. The coffee reminded me a lot of a freshly brewed, lighter roast coffee. There was a notable malt presence, with the malts being sweet, dark and slightly roasty. Bakers chocolate and brown sugar notes contributed a pleasant bitter-sweet quality. Dark fruits appeared in the center. Cherries and plums were detectible. The beer finished with lingering notes of leafy, earthy hops and a fleeting, whiskey-like kick.

The mouthfeel was rich, creamy and velvety smooth. Thicker than average for the style but not super viscous. The liquid contained a super fine, moderate effervescence that gave the beer a pillowy soft quality. Quite impressive.

Big Bad Baptist is an amazingly tasty and complex imperial stout. While most flavor-infused, barrel-aged stouts tend to be high ABV monsters, this beer managed to be surprisingly drinkable yet immensely interesting. Fans of Coffee BCBS should definitely seek this out.

***Release #25***

I think i owe thanks to F2brewers for this one but it might be someone else.

Poured from a bomber.

Thick, dark pour with hanging lace. Aroma is sweet cocoa, heavy and intense. Flavor is very good; rich cocoa, chocolate, rye, strong coffee, nice whiskey overtones play wonders. Very robust yet remarkably easy to drink. One of my favorite barrel aged stouts, wish i had 12 of these!

Release #13. Poured from a bomber into a snifter, the beer is jet black, thick and oily on the pour, with a halo of light brown head. It just looks thick and big. Terrific. The aromas are bittersweet, with notes of cocoa nib, coffee, vanilla, bourbon, woody notes, crème, and earthy highlights. This smells huge and layered. Flavors are very robust, with a heavy roasted character, solid cocoa nib backbone providing sweetness and bitterness, coffee highlights, a solid blast of whiskeyand booze that supplies a building warmth, earthy notes, and a steady flow of spice throughout. This is a beast. Very layered flavor profiles throughout. The body is robust, smooth, almost velvety. The aftertaste is heavily roasted, with cocoa nib, whiskey, and subtle crème. The finish is smooth, with a subtle boozy edge, and an overall dry, lingering feel. Solid, big, monster of a beer. This was a workout! Fantastic!
