This is one big beer in terms of taste, feel, and effect! Poured black as black can be and thick with minimal head. The 11.7%abv wasn't hidden at all and smacked you with each swig. Notes of roasted cocoa beans, dark chocolate and vanilla(?) were there along with the alcohol. As it got warmer in the glass, the bite got bolder. All in all, I enjoyed this bad boy from the folks at Epic, just glad I was safely at home as this one easily brought out the drunkard in me:)

22 ounce into a snifter, release #40, 11.5%, maybe batch 1977 bottled 10/13/2014.

Pours dark, no head but lacing on the sides while drinking. Smells oaky, vanilla, buttery (?). Whatever, smells really nice. Tastes of vanilla, whiskey, some oak. Get some coffee on the back end. This is beautifully blended. Really smooth drinking, almost creamy.

First beer from Epic and it's a big winner. Can't get this where I live, wish I would have bought a second. Don't know if all the releases are this good, but you should buy it if you see it.

Appearance- Very dark brew with a tawny head.

Smell- Primarily bourbon sweetness.

Taste- Surprisingly very little bourbon flavor, it only makes an appearance in the nose. Heavy roast is the majority of the flavor coming through here. Chocolate and hazelnuts... Reminiscent of Nutella. Notes of coffee and cola round out the finish, but after drinking BCBS or Parabola this seems like a medium bodied beer.

Feel- Very creamy and smooth. Not harsh in the least.

Overall- A unique bourbon barrel offering, good but not one of my favorites.

Draft, at the Aces and Ales, Las Vegas, poured into a goblet

Appearance: Pours a beautiful, completely opaque, pitch-black color with a half of a finger of chocolate-colored head that dissolved away into a thin lacing of foam that partially covered the top of the beer.

Aroma: Tons of roasted malt up front, imparting notes of freshly toasted pumpernickel bread, followed by some dark chocolate aromas, caramel and brown sugar. Rich.

Taste: Strong flavors of roasted malt up front, imparting notes of freshly toasted pumpernickel bread, a touch of freshly roasted coffee and smoke, followed by some dark chocolate-like bitterness, dark molasses, brown sugar-like sweetness and a touch of star anise or licorice. Delicious!

Mouthfeel: Very chewy, very creamy and smooth, as there is no carbonation what-so-ever in this beer. With an ABV of 11.8%, there is a very pleasant alcohol warmth on the palate.

Overall: This is an excellent beer! I love the strong flavors of malt, dark chocolate and dark molasses/brown sugar-like sweetness as well as the creamy mouthfeel. Delicious!

One of the best BBL Stouts I've had this year. Incredible smooth and rich yet bp very drinkable with just enough barrel influence.

Poured from a bomber into an enlarged snifter. This is release #14 - 12.1% ABV.

Appearance: Pours deep brown and leaves a dark tan/light brown finger and a half of good looking head. The head lingers for a while before leaving a brown layer atop the beer. (4.5)

Smell: Roasted malts, vanilla, hints of dark chocolate and oak. Nice integrated aroma. (4.5)

Taste: Roasted malts, plenty of vanilla, dark chocolate, a hint of oak. Very smooth finish, alcohol is very well masked. (4.25)

Mouth-feel: Low to medium carb with a medium, slightly creamy body. Smooth, light finish. (4)

Overall: This is a really nice, balanced but big stout. Vanilla is the biggest flavor here, which is interesting considering that it was brewed with cocoa nibs and coffee. Nice balance of sweetness. (4.25)

From start to finish this beer is purely enjoyable. The aroma swirls between chocolate and coffee as it enters the nose. On the taste, I get chocolate as it transforms into coffee, and finishes with the hints of bourbon and barrel. This is fully bodied and coats the back of the throat. An enjoyable after taste.

Poured from 650 ml bomber into snifter.

Label indicates 12.4 ABV (Release #36)

A: Opaque black with thin brown foam that tries hard to hold on, but dissipates fairly quickly.

S: Oh, the smell! Beautiful cocoa, coffee, barrel and booze throughout.

T: Taste pleasantly follows smell: rich malt, dark chocolate and not too bitter coffee, some acidity, maybe from the barrel. Coffee and booze play together well in the aftertaste.

M: Full body, creamy from the lively carbo, good heat from the whiskey.

O: I love how this beer's smell hangs on almost to the last sip. I also love how the taste does not belie the great smell. I usually look for 12 oz version of beers coming in a 750 ml bomber. It may sound like heresy, but this is a beer that i wish the bomber would be larger. Great balance. Recommended!

Release #42

This is a solid stout for the money. Coffee forward with chocolate and a notable hoppiness. The whiskey barreling is obvious, but doesn't lead to an overly boozy taste. Sticky consistency that hangs in the back of the throat. Overall, I wouldn't put B.B.B. among the best, but rather one of the better B.A. stouts you're going to find for $$.

The holy grail of all stouts ever created. Tastes like liquid cocoa puffs with just a little bit of coffee and booze. This one went down in just a matter of minutes, it was that good. Way better than any other stout I've had, even better than world class BCBS in my opinion. Will be buying this WHENEVER I see it. Never in a million years would I have guessed that it was 11.5% ABV. almost too easy to drink. Batch #48 I believe.

L - opaque, lightbtan 1/2 finger head

S - coffee bomb. Thats it

T- heavy coffee front end, boozy thick body, espresso and chocolate finish

M- little thin for the alcohol content and flavor profile, but still great

O - outstanding stout, could be a little too much coffee though

Batch #29. Purchased in Flagstaff, AZ. Says 9.9% on the bottle. Full review written at night on Christmas.

A- Bomber reveals a pitch black brew to a few snifters. In the glass you can see some super dark brown at the sides after the half finger mocha tan head dies to a silky ring.

S- Coffee, coffee and more coffee. Dark coffee grounds burst out of the bottle and glass and I have to say dominate the aroma. The flavor reveals more complexity but here it is all about the coffee beans. Roasted grains and cocoa pretty much just exist to remind you that this is a beer. Slight vanilla whiskey and oak but I keep going back to coffee.

T- Coffee forward for the most part once again but some other dimensions are reveled here. The barrel has a bit more influence with mostly a degraded oak vanilla sweetness and slight whiskey spirit. Roasty black barley, toasted almonds and bread, espresso beans, left over french press grounds, slightly bitter cocoa and a bit of toasty woody oak. Milk chocolate joins the party as the beer warms up.

MF- Medium to thick bodied leaning a bit toward the stout side with a slightly oily texture and a moderate creaminess. Carbonation towards the high side and it seems to give it just a bit of a thinner body than it should have for the flavors. Finishes with black coffee bean bitterness and acidity on the palate.

Espresso, french press and just about any coffee complexity attacks the taste buds with milk chocolate and bitter cocoa notes. The barrel does just enough to make me appreciate it along with the roasted grains but I think the coffee is just a bit too strong here. Damn tasty but you can see how much more could be done.

Thanks to Cam for sharing this bomber on Christmas Day. This was labeled as Release #26 at 9.9% ABV.

A - Pitch black pour duh. Tan head, good retention and decent lacing.

S - Really good coffee, good but lightish cocoa, but not much else going on for me. Weirdly, kinda has the strength of a 6% porter.

T - Once again, tons of coffee, pretty big cocoa, there is slight bourbon and oak after some time. Just enough roast to back it up and some light vanilla. Light hoppage. Mostly just smooth, quality mocha flavors.

M - Smooth and well-carbonated, kinda light but in a good way, very hard to believe this is almost 10%.

O - Good, excellent coffee+cocoa, 10% is wha?, just wish there was more going on.

A: Black.
S: Coffee dominates the aroma followed by some chocolate and a minimal amount of barrel aromas including vanilla.
T: Strong coffee, chocolate, little ABV noticeable, smooth.
M: Full body.
Not as complex as I like my BBA but a nice drinkable coffee and chocolate forward stout The coffee hides the high abv well.

Very lucky to have tried this one. A friend brought it back from a Vegas trip. Pours black. Smells awesome. Has a charred and burnt taste that is delicious. The coffee or chocolate has been toasted/roasted or something. This adds a very unique aspect to the beer that I haven't had in other stouts. Super thick going down. This is one that I was said when I hit the bottom of the bottle. There are lots of strong stouts that I love but could not have on a regular basis. This one however could be enjoyed regularly because it is so unique and not overpowering.

Black as night with no penetration to light. A minuscule layer of khaki colored foam covers the majority of the top. Brussels lacing. I smell very bitter coffee similar to iced coffee. The coffee flavor is like very bitter iced coffee similar to coffee bender, but the whiskey and chocolate notes are sweet and cut the bitterness. The mouth is thick and chewy.
