Formerly Fermentation Without Representation Imperial Pumpkin Porter

Our first ever collaborative beer has all the familiar flavors of the season, but done with Epic style. To a base of strong, roasty, and chocolaty porter, we add 200 pounds of real pumpkin per batch, five spices and whole Madagascar vanilla beans. As you pour this deeply ruby brown beer, you’re greeted by the aroma of fresh cut squash, followed by rich chocolate. The flavor starts sweet with marshmallow, vanilla, and some pumpkin pie, then yields to a coffee roast and darkchocolate dryness. This beer is a great introduction for curious drinkers and a special holiday treat for fans of the style.

The pour is dark brown with tan head of foam. The taste is sweet roasted malt & pumpkin. The 8% abv is well hidden. This is the 1st pumpkin porter I've had & it's a fine one indeed. Cheers! B

The roast is strong wit this one...

Great looking beer - I haven't seen a beer pour so thickly, like engine oil thick, in quite some time. The smell is non-existent and the feel is well-carbonated. Taste-wise the roast is really strong - more so than most porters I have had at least in recent memory. Overall, I think this is a really good brew (scent notwithstanding) though the pumpkin flavoring was killed by the roast...

No bottling date - Batch/Release #54
Purchased at the dabc for $6.99
Poured at fridge temp into a chalice.

Pours a heavy and dark brown with cola colored edges and a thin mocha colored head. Oily and fine trace lacing. 4

Spice/pie spice is not the focus here and I love it. Dark and milk chocolate, gourdy pumpkin and some vanilla on the nose. 4

Gourd, pumpkin, yam, even some squash I'd say. Vanilla comes in next with a touch of cinnamon, rounded out by dark roasted malts and chocolate. 4.25

Body is delightfully creamy and warm with gentle prickling carbo. Oily mouthcoating and fairly thick with a good dose of chewiness. 4.25

Overall an excellently done pumpkin beer I'd certainly buy again. 4.25

This is a couple years old, I think, but still has plenty of pumpkin flavor. Smoky and roasty like a Porter should be. Kind of thin. Not very boozy on the drinking, but sneaks up on you. Not bad.

L - dark brown, nearly black with mahogany highlights with a light tan head that dissipates quickly leaving behind some lacing
S - chocolate and roasted dark malt, char, some fall - nutmeg, cloves, allspice
T - chocolate and roasted dark malt up front and throughout with some char throughout, fall spices like nutmeg, cloves, allspice, very faint pumpkin. Some coffee and vanilla on the backend.
F - medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Slightly watery on the backend - thin for the style
O - a pretty solid pumpkin porter, but honestly it could have more pumpkin flavor. I feel like the barrel aging counterpart to this porter is slightly better as it adds more character to the beer

Poured moderately hard from a big bottle into a snifter glass, forming maybe a finger of light tan head that soon faded to a ring of lacing. Very dark brown color, just about opaque. Not too strong of a smell, maybe a bit of rye and some spices. Taste is a good roasty pumpkin background, a little bit of spice, and subtle rye at the end, continuing as an after taste. A little boozy, but too much. A good balance overall. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. I was worried the rye might be too much since I don't really like it, but thankfully its not excessive. A pretty darn good pumpkin porter.

Pours very dark, a little thin for the style, nice foamy head that fades quickly. Aroma is mostly dark roasted malts, light chocolate. The BBA base is strong, lots of barrel flavor, which is great. Lots of chocolate, nice light dose of pumpkin pie spice, has a bitter espresso finish. A bit on the thin side for the style, carbonation adds to a creamy texture. Overall, a tasty beer with a pretty good price point.

Pours a deep, dark mahogany coloration with a ruby sheen when held up to the light and a medium, frozhy head. Smells of lightly roasted, caramel malt, hints of chocolate and distinct spice notes of nutmeg, clove and ginger as well as just a hint of vanilla. Taste is a great balance of lightly roasted, caramel malt and distinct spices, with notes of nutmeg, clove, allspice, ginger and lighter vanilla, as well as some chocolate, coffee and hints of licorice. Finishes bittersweet, with a light bitterness and some spices lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and light/medium carbonation.

A very nice pumpkin porter that seems to be dominted by the spices a lot more than the pumpkin itself, although there is a certain fruity sweetness to this that may well be it, along with the sweetness from the caramel malts, which is balanced very nicely by the roasted malt and spices though. It's not a style that I'm too familiar with, but the general flavor profile certainly seems to be par for the course, with the spices really standing out very pleasantly here, without becoming too overwhelming and allowing the malts some room to breathe. Overall, this makes for a very pleasant pumpkin porter with a great balance of sweet, spicy and bitter notes.
