Epic Brewing Double Skull Dopplebock Lager.
Poured from a 22 oz bottle into a perfect pint glass. Served lightly chilled.
A) Copper colored brew with a full finger of cream colored head. The head slowly settles to a wispy dusting. Nice lacing too...
S) Malty sweetness... Caramel, a little butterscotch. Earthy hops, whiff of grass. Alcohol as it warms.
T) Follows the nose... Malty, buttery toast, caramel, earthy hops, and some spice on the backend. The alcohol stays pretty well hidden, but it's worth noting. Decent aftertaste...
M) Solid medium body with pretty soft carbonation. Goes down smooth enough. Bitter finish with a little booze.
O) I enjoyed this beer. I'd say a bit more at a colder temp. I'd rather drink a Celebrator or Korbinian, but this was a nice dinner beer.

Appearance: a solid brown color that hints towards black depending on the light. a finger of a white head that leaves behind a bit of a lacing. almost opaque but lets just a little bit of light through.
Smell: sweet. maybe some brown sugar, breadiness, chocolate and earthiness.
Taste: opens up with chocolate tending towards roasty malts. overtaking by a huge earthiness, mixing with bread. very weird balance too it, which i have a difficulty explaining.
Mouthfeel: sweet and fairly light for the style, completely missing the lager cleanness.
Overall: i found this beer way too muddled between flavors. the chocolate and earthiness just seem out of place and don't balance very well.

Bomber, served in a Tyranena snifter
A - pours a dark copper, clear, fades to zero head
S - biscuit and caramel, a bit of subdued hops follow
T - sweet, but not overly so, caramel up front, hops are more present here than in the nose
M - rather thin, surprising for 9.0% abv, but smooth
O - good value, certainly a solid dopplebock, nothing earth-shattering. Won't necessarily seek it out, but would happily have it again
