Originally brewed as liquid bread by fasting monks this Doppelbock is rich and filling. Crisp and delicious for the winter months.

Bomber from the brewery. Release 17 was bottled Nov 2, 2013 according to the website. This batch was 8.1 ABV. Poured into my beer goblet.
Appearance: Very clear garnet, a beautiful color. This pour had very little head on it.
Smell: All malts here with a dash of noble herbal hops. The malts have a deep caramel smell and are a but nutty. Very nice.
Taste: Not quite chocolate, more a sort of cola flavor. I know that may sound odd for a beer, but this works really well. The malts are the highlight here and this lager shows them off well. This maybe a bit sweeter than most. Not too shabby.
Mouthfeel: A little sticky, with a lingering subtle sweetness. The flavors are long lasting and coat the moat. The carbonation is on the lower side.
Overall: I have not had many doppel bocks, but I did enjoy this beer. I need to try a few more.

Bomber at fridge temp, bought at the brewery. Pours deep brown with a small khaki foam.
Aroma of dark malt.
Taste is caramel and medium roast malt. There’s an air of honey in the middle. Unoffensive alcohol residual.
Medium body and low to mid carb.
Overall, a decent whiff of a double bock that lacks ‘something’.,.

Pours a clear medium brown with no head. Smells of caramel and toasted malt, smells sweet. Tastes of caramel and toffee. Sweet and syrupy. Maybe some dark fruit. Medium bodied. Kind of disappointing.

Poured from a 12 oz can. Rusty brown. Very smooth. Not as sweet as other Doppels I've had. Nothing outstanding, really. Maybe drinking it on the heels of a big IPA didn't do it any favors.

Had on tap. Opaque medium brown with a fat finger of tan foam. Big toffee and caramel led nose, very sweet and rich but one dimensional. Taste brings in some mild grainy yeast and decent hop bitters to add some variety. Feel is super malty, decently full bodied yet moderate weight, but has a pleasant finish with mild earthy bitters.

Canned on 1/10/22. 12oz can poured into a tulip.
Pours amber with auburn and ruby hues; small light khaki head that fades leaving okay retention and decent lacing. Nice color.
The aromas are subtle and malt forward. Some caramel. Some fresh bread and toast. Hints of dark fruit.
The flavors have caramel leading the way. Some toffee and cocoa. More toast. More dark fruits. Some raisins. Subtle hints of black cherry in the mix. Mild stickiness. Solid malt backbone. Alcohol is ultimately well hidden.
Mouthfeel is on the lighter side of full-bodied with active carbonation. It's sharp, slick, smooth and slightly fluffy.
This is a decent doppelbock. It might not be my new personal favorite, but it has just about everything that you'd look for in the style, more or less. Not bad.

Day 17 of the advent calendar 2021
Gorgeous ruby brown color. The head moved around on top for a while, after it subsided, eventually going away completely. Not much hop aroma, plenty of malt and caramel though.
Nice body; a fine sip. Sweeter than I prefer, but oh so easy to drink down.

This isn't the best one of all time but definitely one of the best things I've had from this brewery. Seems like their flagships besides baptists are meh but the other stuff is pretty quality.
