Release #12

Served in a DC Brau can glass. I just finished a "Corruption," so I just used the same glass.

A: Poured out a glistening, apricot orange color, with a whopping 3-4 finger white head. Murky, cloudy, you know the drill.

S: Hmmm... Not a coriander bomb which is a pleasant departure. Actually, this had quite a gingersnap/sage disposition (hence the name, I guess) as well as some quality, orange juice infusion.

T: Exactly like the smell, and with a strong piny backbone imbedded in the spice component. Not too sweet and the fresh-filtered water flair was to die for.

M: Spritzy and bubbly, just the way I like my saisons. No syrup in this puppy.

O: I really dug it. I'm gonna have to remember the whole sage thing for my next saison home-brew.

22oz bottle, Release #2. Pours clear yellow-gold with a medium creamy white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is sweet malts and turkey cooking spices (rosemary and sage?) that seem a bit out of place.

The flavor is sweet bready, slightly vegetal malts with a big spice finish (sage and rosemary) and a little mint. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with creamy carbonation.

Overall, an interesting concept, but a bit overly spiced and I wasn't really digging those spices in beer.

Thanks to jtd1969 for sharing this bottle with me.

A - hazy copper gold with a soft, white head

S - sage through and through

T - sage, mild yeast, herbal, orange peel, earthy

M - medium bodied, crisp, well carbonated

This was delicious. I love herbs in beer. This will be over the top for some, but for me this was fantastic. The yeast and malt laid a perfect foundation to play nice with the sage. I probably couldn't have more than one of these at a time, but I'll definitely have it again.

thanks dak!

pours a cloudy hazy golden yellow. loads of thick creamy fluffy head, tons of sticky lacing. great retention

fresh herb, spicy, funky, malty. a bit complex mix of flavors. sage and funk really shine.

very sage forward with a nice rounded sweetness. mixed in is a light spice and moderate funk. lots of herbal earthy flavors. again, very sage forward.

light and airy, moderate carbonation which adds to the feel.

pretty good, love the sweet herbal flavors. pleasantly surprised.

Release #3; Posting to help it get a score.

Pours a clear orange amber with a lovely thick, firm and long lasting pure white head. Really nice looking.

Nose is all fruity "saged" esters. Sage is really present but well integrated into the other fruit character of the nose. Really pleasant fresh sage, oranges, citrus and spice.

Mouthfeel is medium thin and crisp with nice medium carbonation.

Flavor profile drives this one. Full and rich assertive flavors of oranges and spice in the front palate that leads into a more complex semi-sweet sage/spice/pepper character. Well integrated and nice flavors without any one element just jumping out. I'm guessing that this would be really nice with Indian, Chinese and Thai food. Very interesting and inviting profiles.

Finish is a bit green herbed to me with a nice green pepper/celery bitter tone that is long lasting. Nice effort on this one.

Picked up tonight at Bier Thirty in Bown.... Poured into my small Cigar City snifter.... Pours a hazy light orange with a short lasting white head that leaves only a little lacing.

The nose is herbaceous... hard to pick any one herb out... a predominant lemon element is the bigger player.

On the palate, the herbs play a much larger role.... a significant amount of sage.... and what I think of rosemary comes out... Rosemary always makes me think of antiseptic qualities... again, a lemony note reminds us that this is a saison... light pale malts tie this brew together... but it still finishes fairly dry.

Body seems a touch heavy for the style.... carbonation is also maybe a little light.

A: poured into an oversize wine glass to a hazy light yellow with a three finger dense and soapy head that is slow to fade and leaves excellent lacing
S: smells of sage, peppery yeast and bready malt with a touch of honey
T: taste is peppery yeast, sage, some grassy qualities, spices, slight sweetness, some fruity esters and dry crackers. swallow is fairly phenolic and bordering on medicinal with more sage, spicy yeast, and a slight residual sweetness
M: this beer sits on the palate on the lighter side but isn't watery. carbonation is somewhat prickly but not overbearing and a slightly drying finish
O: A nice and spicy saison. Very well crafted, lots of nice flavors without anything dominating.

A= poured a very light amber color with nice lacing and about a 1.5 finger head that disappeared quickly.

S= typical Belgian ale with initial citrus smells then yummy smells of of yeast and malt and then finishing with a piney-sage end note.

T= crisp initial citrus taste with a bready middle tone and finishing with pine and hops.

M= light mouthfeel with consistent carbonation

O= good tasting beer. I like the pine finish. Not my favorite from Epic. But it's a solid beer that I will drink again.
